I switched to Gianvi from yaz because of the price after yaz stopped that cool $25 program. I wasn’t interested in paying over $50 for birth control. I must admit, I was freaking out after I read the reviews on this site. My doctor calmed me down after I called her and she was right. There is one positive review on this site that I read that gave me courage to try. Therefore, ladies I have to echo...

DO NOT TAKE THIS. I was on yaz for 2 years, and did fine, minus the final withdrawal. but this drug, by day 2 turned me into a mental case. COMPLETELY PSYCHOTICLY DEPRESSED, it's made me feel like life is nothing, and my boyfriend and i constantly fight and i'm this insecure, negative nutcase. this is a very bad birth control pill, and it does not have the same ingredient to combat PMDD. It makes ...

I used Yaz originally and was switched to Gianvi after a few months. It took me a few months to get used to Gianvi, but I eventually did and had few problems, even during my period. Three months ago, my pharmacy filled my generic Yaz script with Vestura, another generic, which worked wonders for me. I had no bloating, no mood swings, and a very light period. This past month, my pharmacy switched me back to Gianvi and I have never reacted so badly to a birth control pill in 4 years of using oral contraceptives. After a week on the pill, I become ridiculously moody and generally unhappy. My moods osilated so widely that I went from being ridiculously happy to bawling my eyes out in a manner of an hour or two. My thoughts became irrational and senseless. I eventually stopped Gianvi about mid-pack and am back on Vestura (for about 3 days now). My moods are significantly better, but not all the way there yet. I am waiting (in)patiently for the Gianvi to leave my system so my moods level back out to normal all the time. Read More Read Less

This pill has worked wonders so far. (I am a 22yr old, 115lb female) I was prescribed this as I have debilitating periods, so bad that I was throwing up constantly and could barely walk due to the abdominal/back pain. Not to mention the fact that I have been suffering from cystic acne since high school. Since taking the pill my skin in the beginning broke out worse than it ever did before (lasted 2-3 weeks). I am on my second month and happy to report that my skin is CLEAR! I can finally touch my face and feel SMOOTH SKIN! My face hasn't been this clear since middle school. Everyone has noticed the difference. On top of this, while on my first month my period actually surprised me! Before Gianvi I always knew when my period was coming. I experienced painful bloating & cramps at least 2 weeks before hand. I experienced NONE of those symptoms. I have had no bloating, no mood swings, no headaches..and the only weight gain I've experienced is in my chest.(I had to go out & buy all new bras). I am super healthy. I switched to a vegan diet 7 months ago, which has helped tremendously in balancing my hormones/periods/& clearning skin and work out 4 times a week. Gianvi was just the icing on the cake and now I am more confident than ever. My sex drive has increased. What is interesting, is that my appetite has decreased. Before Gianvi, when I was 19.. I had taken orthotricyclen & was severely, emotionally unstable. I suffered depression etc. and cried nearly every day. It was an awful experience. I know it's only been my second month on Gianvi, but dare I call this a miracle pill? Every woman's body works differently, and YES - Diet has EVERYTHING to do with what you experience as well. Migraines, nausea, blood clots, etc. have not only to do with the BC you're taking - but what you are ingesting as well. Food is your medicine. Read More Read Less

I took Yaz after my 1st daughter for over a year and was happy with it. I was given the generic, Gianvi, after my second child. I was very unhappy with this pill. Though effective at preventing a pregnancy, I hated the way it made me feel. Not to mention, my periods were all over the place. For example, I didn't have a period for 2 months, then the next month had 2! I told my Dr I was done with this pill and I am now trying out the Nuvaring.

I have taken this for 3 years now. Over the last year and half I have developed severe migraines my neck, shoulders, and arms hurt. Doctors must not be very informed on the side effects because the two I have seen in this time have ignored any connection it could have with this drug. After reading some information I put it together that this birth control is probably the cause of all my pain. I knew about the law suits but didn't worry because I wasn't feeling the effect of any if those symptoms. I would strongly recommend to get away before long use of this. I am in constant pain, rarely sleep and had no idea that this could be the cause of it all. Please stay way from this!!! I will be finding a new birth control soon. Read More Read Less

I took Beyaz for four months without problems. Then I switched to Gianvi and had migraines almost-daily and non-stop spotting for a month. Switched back to Beyaz and the problems cleared up within a week. This was my first-ever encounter with a generic that was clearly different from brand.

I switched from a different birth control to this because it was not clearing up my acne. Gianvi has done a great job in clearing my skin until recently when I started noticing that I have started having to use the bathroom nonstop. I don't drink much water to begin with, and somehow I always have to pee. It's to the point where I wake up several times at night just to use the bathroom. I'm also having trouble sleeping and getting migraines all the time, some of which are pretty bad. This all started happening after a year of using it without issues. I'm switching in 2 days. Keep in mind that you my not notice side effects til after a few months of using the pill.Read More Read Less

I took Yaz for a couple of years and was satisfied. When Gianvi was released I was skeptical, but I tried it and liked it even better than Yaz. I took it for over a year, and I had little to no PMS, light, 3-day periods, and perfect skin. They had even switched their cheap packaging and started sending Gianvi with the pretty blue suade envelopes. Unfortunately, my mail order pharmacy started sending me Loryna instead of Gianvi. Now I am moody (angry), anxious, and having breakouts. I start spotting and having cramps the morning I take the first inactive pill. My period is longer and much heavier than on Gianvi. I have no libido whatsoever. I have been fighting with the pharmacy for a week to get them to send me Gianvi on my next order instead of Loryna. Bottom line - everyone is different. Every pill is different. The active ingredients in the brand and generics are the same, but the inactive ingredients can vary. Experiment and find the best pill for YOU! Read More Read Less

I just finished my first month, and while taking the pink pills I have had no problems, a little bit of mood swings, but nothing drastic. I just finished the last white pill yesterday and started my period today, however the cramps are far more horrible then they were before I took Giavni, but it could be because my body is just getting used to them.

i have been taking this birth control for almost 2 years now. the only issue i have with it is headaches. i was on YAZ before since i was about 19 [now 23] and i cant really tell much of a difference. i had no idea how many woman had issues with it because i never really had a problem. over all it has worked very well for me. i was off and on it for a few months in the fall because of insurance issues and the only thing that went wrong while i was off was my skin. ive never had acne until i was going off and one with it. been steadily on it for about 2 months now so im hoping it clears up soon. i do become a little moody while on my period but thats expected. hope my review helps!Read More Read Less

Every woman's body is different and the only advice I can give to women seeking a birth control pill is to just talk with you doctor about any personal health issues you may have. Usually talking with your doctor helps, and it's easy to switch your pill and even your method of birth control if pills are not a convenient method. I took yaz for a few months and have been on Gianvi for about 2 years. I haven't had any significant problems directly related to the pill. Don't let bad reviews scare you or discourage you from wanting to take a pill, you never know until you try it for yourself. Everyone's biology is different. For me, I've been loving my birth control and it's been SUPER effective. No mood swings, a 5 pound weight gain at the most (my boobs did grow exponentially ;)).Read More Read Less

I have started taking Gianvi recently & was on Trinessa prior. I have had a few problems while on Gianvi such as extreme spotting (1 month) but my doctor said that it would subside as I continued to take it. I also have had pretty significant breast tenderness the week before my period to the point where it hurts to go on runs. My periods seem to last longer as well.. which I don't like. It has helped my acne though!

I was on Yaz for about 3 years to help me in preventing pregnancy as well as with the symptoms of my PCOS. I never had any issues with Yaz, it was actually the best and most effective bcp I have ever been on. Then I went through some financial hard times and couldn't afford the higher price of Yaz, so I switched to Gianvi (the generic of Yaz). I've been taking it for 4 months and HATE it. It is NOT like Yaz! I am now having daily headaches or migraines, my skin is breaking out like CRAZY nonstop, I have mood swings now, I gained 15 lbs out of nowhere, and the worst of it? I have now developed multiple painful cysts all over my ovaries (many times I am unable to even walk because of them), and one cyst ruptured recently (that was fun.). I NEVER had this issue the whole time I was on Yaz. Yaz HELPED my PCOS...my skin was beautifully clear all the time, no mood swings, and NO cysts! I think it's absurd that they are saying Gianvi is supposed to be exactly the same as Yaz. And I know other women who switched to Gianvi and have had many issues with it as well. Even my doctor insisted I switch back to Yaz...she said my problems were being caused by and made worse by the Gianvi. So hopefully my insurance will cover most or all of the cost of the Yaz so that I can afford it. It's not like I'm just being picky...I NEED a medication that WORKS for me. I have a disease that is being made WORSE by the generic. I'm switching back next week and I'm so relieved to be done with Gianvi. Read More Read Less

I have been on this birth control for about 2 months now. I absolutely HATE IT. Before Gianvi I was on Beyaz with no problems at all. Ever since Gianvi I have been extremely moody, mean, emotional (I could cry over anything in a split second), with headaches, weight gain, depression, and a feeling as if I was getting blood clots. Its horrible. And I have never fought more with my boyfriend than in the last 2 months. I already have an appointment set up to change my pills. Do Not Take This Sh%$!!Read More Read Less

Please think twice before using this drug. I was 38 and had NO risk factors, but within 4 months of being on this medication I developed blood clots in both lungs. I had been on other oral birth control pills for 17 years and never had any problem. My doctor felt it was probably wholly due to Giavni. I would urge anyone thinking about it to consider another type of birth control pill.

I only took Gianvi for a month. I tried Yaz first for 2 months and decided to try the generic. I found no difference in the two pills except that I have bloating and constipation issues that I didnt seem to have with the Yaz. I am starting Yaz again this next week so I will see how it goes. I took Yasmin for 11 years prior to the change and really liked it however, the cost was much higher.

When first taking this drug, I was a bit nervous after having read so many negative reviews. Needless to say, this birth control has actually worked wonderfully for me thus far and I am going on my third month of use. I did experience some severe nausea and cramping---One evening during the first month and for another evening in the second month---and occasionally my appetite goes from non-existent to insatiable...I expect this effect to subside soon. No significant changes in my skin, weight, menstrual cycle, etc to report. My breasts increased in size only slightly. I will say, however, that the most surprising side effect was an increased sex drive, as my general assumption was that my libido would take a huge dive after starting birth control. In short, I highly recommend not allowing all of the negative reviews to discourage you from taking this birth control, as every woman's body reacts differently. Read More Read Less

Giavni was the worst birth control I was ever on. Instead of helping my PMDD, it escalated all of the symptoms. I was SO mean and miserable to myself and others, I had a constant upset stomach, and down right miserable with life in general. Keep in mind that I took Yaz for many years and it was the best thing that ever happened to me so much so that I was willing to pay $70/month to go back to the brand name. After speaking to my pharmacist, he recommended that I try the other generic brand my insurance covers called Loryna before breaking my bank. Let me stress to you that I've only been taking it for just one week and all of those miserable/sickening feelings Giavni left me with have been instantly lifted. I enjoy life again and I'm not a sick ogre hating life like I was on Giavni. I'm waiting until I'm on Loryna for a few months before I review that; however, if Giavni left you feeling like it did me, I highly recommend asking your pharmacist to let you try Loryna if you can't afford the name brand Yaz like me. I've only been using this particular pill for a few months. I have terrible acne, feel depressed, my mood is just generally bad, I find myself being easily irritated, I have leg cramps, back pain and extended periods with spotting in between. Needless to say, I won't be on this very much longer.
