I'm suffering from DDD, Scoliosis, Shoulder Injury x 2 and neuropathic pain for 10 years (since age 21). Over the years, I've been prescribed Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Codeine, Tramadol, Neurontin,Lyrica.....and finally something that works, the BUTRANS patch. Wow, I actually have control of my life again! My pain level went from an (8) pre-patch to about a (3) post-patch. I apply a new patch ...

I've been using the Butrans patch for 2 1/2 years and it's helped a lot to ease my pain from osteoarthritis. On a scale of 1-10, my pain was at an 8 and now it's a 3-4. I can live with that. I have almost no side effects other than some fatigue. I had to go off of it for 6 months last year because of an insurance issue, and I went through withdrawals. That was one of my most painful thing I've ever experienced. This medication was tried after all others had failed (including many back injections.) Read More Read Less

Terrible drug doesn't work. I'm going to call an attorney or two about this drug. Complicates your life because it is also used to control substance abuse. It can cause new physicians to not want to touch you for any kind of ache or lain youre having. I was on fentanyl from 2002 to 2016, then put on this without discussion from my drs office. This was cruel, it happened because my numbers were never high enough of fentanyl in my system. The changing it every 3 days made taking it on time very difficult. Drs office thought that I was selling my rx or doing something other than taking it. Oh, my life is a literal nightmare since being put on this "medicine".Read More Read Less

I have cervical disk degeneration at C6-C7 with radiculopathy that needs surgery, spinal arthritis, and herniated disks at T7/T8 and L3/L4. This has been my only pain medication and has worked great so far. I use the 20mcg. I have messed up one patch by sweating too much outside but now I know better. I do not have any side effects or issues with it not sticking.

BEWARE - this is an effective drug but the withdrawals can be wicked. Suicidal thoughts like never before, very emotional, and just crazy thoughts. So, if you decide to stick with Butrans, be prepared to get addicted. It works but if you truly do not want to be on a narcotic for the rest of your life, it is a dangerous drug. I am off of it and will not go back.

Lupus, scoliosis, DDD, stenosis w/compression fx, Sjogrens and migraines. Was on Percocet, afraid of becoming dependent and not getting enough relief. On B/patch 20mg. Very nauseated for a few days. Also have the itchiness many have mentioned, but no rash. I am able to have a much more normal life and quality of life much improved. Have Percocet for breakthrough but don't Ned it till day 5. Would strongly recommend. The lesser dose wasn't helpful but the 20 seems to do the trick.

I am on Butran 10 mg, for the past year & 1/2, It has changed my life for the better, I am able to do more then When I wasn't on them, I do get dry spots from time to time and For me I have to change the patch every 5 days, rather then 7 , Out of being on the Patch for a year and a half only 3 patches have fallen off, I have 2 brain tumors and a failed bone fusion in my neck as well as having 3 degenerated disks in my lower lumbar spine area,My brain tumors are in operative, and I was referred for surgery to correct the issues in my neck, but because of my tumors I can't have any surgeries on my neck or spine, So I have to live with Chronic pain everyday, Butran has been a life saver for me, I would recommend them to any one with chronic pain issues Read More Read Less

Post Chemo/Radiation therapy with lumbar and thoracic herniationan and stenosis. I had a gastric bypass so oral meds normal or extended release left me with relief-misery cycles as my body does not process oral medication properly. THe patch has not alleviated all pain but has decreased the distress of the pain by keeping me at an even level without spikes and withdrawals. I am on 20 micgrogram patch and use tegaderm to keep it on. Only complaint is biological action of butrans prevents breakthrough pain medication from working. After having 24 kidney stones and other items that cause ACUTE pain at periods I cannot get relief from breakthrough meds. Overall though the Butrans has increased the quality of life for me in the long run and I would recommend it to others. I would like doctors or others to recommend something that can help with a different mechanism for acute pain periods while on Butrans so Ic an get relief at those times. I believe if that could happen this would be a quantum leap in pain management. I would recommend this to other chronic pain sufferers....Final note. Many people equate pain relief with euphorogenic feeling... the warm fuzzy. If you are taking pain meds to achieve that then you arent using pain meds properly. Pain meds are to get you back to daily life activities and functionality...not an escape mechanism....I read too many reviews that say pain meds dont work because they cant feel it. WHen my pain scale goes down I dont need to feel "high" for it to work... I just want to have less pain.Read More Read Less

Have had 5 failed back surgeries with nerve damage. I have taken hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycontin, Fentynal patches and various other strong meds which over time have become ineffective and offer no pain relief.I have just begun treatment with Butrans15mcg. So far I have had no pain relief, I have however had mental confusion and insomnia. No drowsiness whatsoever. I'm hoping that if I give it more time it will have a cumulative effect.

Has been very effective for me. I apply a 20 mg patch every 7 days. I do have some other meds for breakthrough pain but don't need them often. I am in acute renal shutdown and waiting for next week to get here so I can get my pacemaker and defibrillator implanted but until then my poor feet are SO swollen so a few times I have taken the other meds at bedtime. The patch is easy to apply ( after the first one you realize that the directions make it sound more complicated that it is) and I have taken mine in the shower and hot bath. The patch has stayed on perfectly. I was really concerned about this because there is something in the glue of some patches I have tried for post menopause hormone therapy and the edges of the patch where the sticky stuff is would break out like a burn every time. If your doctor offers it to you, I recommend you try it. You don't have to worry about running out of meds before the renewal date, etc. One warning though - day number 7 I can feel that the patch is not doing as much. Read More Read Less

These patches have changed my life for the better in so many ways. I can now go shopping, play with my kids, work and be a normal 40 year old person, and not be defined by fibromyalgia. Living without pain is my new motto. Sometimes keeping the patches to adhere for a whole week is challenging, but if you read the insert that comes with the patches, you do have options to help keep them on. The hardest part for me was that I couldn't seem to keep them rotated on the trunk of my body, therefor I had to rotate them on my upper arms. I've been on a 15mcg per hr patch for about a year and after many years of looking for an answer to help with my pain, I've more than found it. The biggest side effect for me has been feeling itchy all over at times. Read More Read Less
