I'm suffering from DDD, Scoliosis, Shoulder Injury x 2 and neuropathic pain for 10 years (since age 21). Over the years, I've been prescribed Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Codeine, Tramadol, Neurontin,Lyrica.....and finally something that works, the BUTRANS patch. Wow, I actually have control of my life again! My pain level went from an (8) pre-patch to about a (3) post-patch. I apply a new patch ...

I was doing ok, or I thought I was I broke out in a very bad rash in my groin and on my sides and under my breast. I didn't put them together until I started having severe allergic reaction at the patch sight, it started with sever itching ( like chicken pox ) it also has caused sever burning of my skin and lumps under the skin, it's like I am branded. I have still stayed on the 20 mcg. patch since my Dr. hasn't had time to see me. I was so happy to get on this medicine, I haven't had a migraine since I have been on Butrans, and I have dropped a total of 3 meds. but I am suffering terribly and I am very disappointed in my Dr. for not finding the time to deal with this. I have never ever had such horrible rashes and the pain hasn't changed much except for no migraines, which I love so I am stuck! nothing else has worked. I wish I knew what to do! any ideas???Read More Read Less

Treating constant pain from Fibromyalgia. I have been on 20 mcg/hr for about 14 months and it's effectiveness has definitely lessened over time. Doesn't seem to help much now and I am about ready to wean off. I am now realizing that the patch poops out after 4 days, and it takes over 24 hrs to feel the effects when I put on a new patch. I am feeling withdrawal symptoms much of the time, my body has again developed a tolerance to pain meds. At first it did help a lot, but not anymore. Now I have to go thru the weaning process, not looking forward to that. I have noticed side effects including blurred vision, constipation, sedation/drowsy, shakiness, lightheadedness, itching at patch application site, sweating, unable to focus while reading, forgetfulness, and a lot of nausea. I have lost weight since being on it due to the nausea, but I needed to lose weight so that's OK. I am so sick of being sick!!!Read More Read Less

I have been suffering with chronic Migraines for over 11 years, tried EVERY drug out there for them and nothing worked. Was on Percocet for them for years, so my dr wanted me to try this patch. Started out with 5mcg dose, but was moved to 10mcg just this week. Do have some dizziness and a little bit of nausea, but I am willing to deal with these for relief of my pain. I would recommend this patch to people with chronic pain that is not controlled with other pain meds.

I have two herniated discs in my neck and degenerative disc disease. I have tried hydros and percocets to manage my pain. These meds did nothing for my pain just doped me up. Have been on Butrans for three weeks. Within 24hrs of applying the patch my pain was finally manageable. I use 3M Tegaderm Transparent Dressing to cover my patch to prevent the patch from coming off. The only side effects I have experienced is itching around the patch and mild constipation. I can deal with these. So happy my doctor put me on this patch. Read More Read Less

I have severe back and neck pain associated with Herniated Discs and severe arthritis through out most my joints. As a result I have had surgery on my neck replacing three discs and I have nerve damage through out my back the lower back I have bone spurs and herniated discs but surgery is to risky due to my heart condition so my pain has been mostly treated with Norco 10mg 4 x daily. My doctor prescribed Butrans 20 mcg patches and it is helping better then the Norco especially at night. I sleep through out the night now. The only down side is I still have break through pain from time to time and the patch wears down after 4-5th day and the patch is one per 7 days. So after my 4-5th day I am back on the Norco 10mg. This has been a positive change in my life but there are risks and side effects like aggressive behavior. I am glad I found something that works for all my aches and pain. Read More Read Less

I've been on Vicodin and Vicoprofen for 20 years but they stopped being effective so my doc had me try Butrans. I've been on the 20 Mcg for 3 months and had to stop because of the nausea. Everytime I sweat or heat up a little the nausea would come on so strong that I just removed the patch. There was very little relief anyway. It didn't deal with my hand pain at all but was fairly effective on my joints,(osteo). I am going to try Duragesic next, I'll let you know how that works out.

I experienced severe, chronic back pain after back surgery since 2007. I have been on pain meds since that time. They did not seem to be helping. I asked my doctor for something different. This patch did not work for me at all. I did not seem to get any relief from the unrelenting pain. I would not recommend this patch.

I was in structured by my doctor to change patch every 7 days, it seems to only work good for about 3 maybe 4 days. I do what my DR. says and change it every 7 days.

Very good pain control. Less chance for abuse, one (25mcg)every week, 4 patches a month. One does not just grab a bottle of pills, thus less likely to start self dose if more pain flared. Give it 24 hrs.!!

Ive noticed a lot of comments indicating the high cost of the drug. Please go to Butrans website and there is discount cards available where the patient pays only 15.00/month. I have been using the patch for over a year and never paid more than 15.00. Hope this helps

Ruptured disc L5S1...taking Hydrocodone 7.5 325 2-3 times a day...Pain doc wanted me to try Butran patch for round the clock relief. Really wanted it to work-started with 10 patch-dizziness,depression, mild rash. Great pain relief 1st 3 days. Boosted to 20 patch for 3 days-very bad gastritis attack now and took patches off. STILL very sick to my stomach 7 days later and my spinal fusion is in 1 week. Have lost 5 lbs from the very painful gastritis that just will not let up and required 2 more doctor visits. BEWARE. If I had any idea I would have stuck to the Hydrocodone which never bothered me. When I went to the company website it says not for people how have gallbladder or thyroid problems which I have gallbladder removed and low thyroid. Read More Read Less

Had been on hydrocodone for many months as needed for knee pain and arthritis. Since I have no cartilage left in my knees that is my most painful area. I started on my very first patch yesterday (10 mcg/hr)after being off ALL pain meds for about 2 weeks and almost exactly 24 hours later became very light headed and couldn't keep my eyes open very much. Within about 4 hours things got better but as I write this, I am still sleepy and slightly dizzy. I hope this is only temporary and am looking forward to seeing if the patch will help my chronic knee and arthritis pain. The respiratory dangers scare me but I believe it is warning those who abuse or take the drug incorrectly.Read More Read Less

I like the ease of use, once every 7 days. the patch does tend to fall off before its suppose too. the price is extreamlly high, even with a coupon. I have put it on at night and woke up with it off in the morning. or had it partially fall off.
