NuvaRing gave me hormonal hot flashes, and I found it hard to take my Loestrin 24 Fe at the same time every day, so I decided to try Nexplanon. I am a 23 year old college graduate, and I am 3 weeks into my Nexplanon. Granted, it hasn't been long, but my experience so far is AMAZING. Ladies, I want to make sure all of you know that birth control works differently with every woman, and most reviews online are from negative experiences, for I was so nervous to get this inserted because of all the negativity I found in online reviews. Here's how my experience has been so far: the only pain was the numbing for it, bruising only lasted two weeks, itching only a few days, extremely clear skin, no breakthrough bleeding or spotting, no mood swings, pain, headaches or nausea, bigger boobs. I'm in love. Don't believe every negative review you read.Read More Read Less

As I searched for a birth control that was right for me, I read a lot of reviews: good, bad, and very scary. After talking with my doctor, Nexplanon was recommended to me because I wanted something long-term, low maintenance, and something that wouldn't make me a crazy person. I had it inserted just over 2 months ago now. Nexplanon has been wonderful. Insertion was easy, and I never have to think about it. I have spotted slightly and irregularly, but it has not been enough to affect my daily life, or impede my routines. I have not gained extra weight, and I feel like my PMS symptoms have become more balanced. I highly recommend this to any woman who does not want an IUD, nor the hassle and unreliable side effects that other hormonal birth controls can produce. Read More Read Less

I had it inserted at no cost because under the Affordable Care Act, you should not have to pay a cent for it. The first couple of months were rough. I had mood swings and I was bleeding a little bit all the time. They say it can take up to six months for your body to adjust and this is normal for Progestin only birth control. My uncle is a OB/GYN and he really put things in perspective for me. 3 out of 10 women never have a period again while on this birth control and everyone of course wants to be those 3 women. You're going to feel side effects until your hormones get in sync and that does not happen overnight. What he suggested to me to help with the discomfort and speed up the balance was to take 800 mg of anti inflammatory medicine, like Motrin, over a two day period a couple of times a month. I did this for two months and it worked like a charm. My bleeding went from every day to a little bit after three weeks, to disappearing altogether. Now, I love having Nexplanon. My moods swings are gone and I have zero bleeding. Now, it worked for me, but it doesn't mean it will work for everyone. You can also ask your doctor for some estrogen pills to help minimize the side effects. Also, every woman is different. Finding out what birth control is best for you requires an honest talk with your doctor as well as time for your body to adjust to whatever method you use. Getting the right information and some patience helped me reach a very happy state with my birth control. Read More Read Less

I've had this in for about a month now. I was on the IUD, but I kept bleeding and decided to switch to this. The first week I was bleeding as if it were a regular period. Wasn't a big deal since I was already bleeding, I just noticed that it had gotten heavier. Anyways, after about a week, my period went extremely light, then finally disappeared. I haven't had bleeding since. The injection spot was bruised and tender afterwards. But went a way pretty quickly. I have no complaints with the product at all. It fits what I need . And as a added bonus NO PERIOD! I plan on getting it again in 3 years. If along the way something changes, I will update my comment, but so far, everything is GREAT! Read More Read Less

I've been using nexplanon for nearly 4 years now.. which means I have had it replaced at the 3 year mark and liked it enough to renew. The replacement process isn't pleasant, but generally painless and quick. I was told that no studies had been done on the effectiveness of nexplanon by plus size women (like myself). I'm currently about 275 lbs and have had zero issues with effectiveness. Unlike birth controls pills which caused me to gain 50 lbs in a matter a months, I haven't experienced significant weight gain and my moods don't swing wildly out of control. Other side affects: no periods! yay. I only experienced bleeding towards the end of my first 3 years. I do get mild facial break outs that I didn't have before I started, but it's just a matter of washing my face daily (which I didn't do before) and my face stays clearRead More Read Less

I have been on Nexplanon for 2 years. The initial procedure of implanting it did not hurt, it was only a tad bit sore 1-2 days afterwards. My period has completely stopped after one month of continuous bleeding/spotting. I have had no side effects. I actually lost lots of weight and my skin/hair improved dramatically (getting off other BC I'm assuming). I don't notice it on a day to day basis at all. I am engaged and sexually active. My fiance does finish inside of me because I am on this birth control. I haven't had any pregnancy scares. It hasn't decreased my sex drive at all either, or make it dry down there. Overall this is a miracle birth control for me, I couldn't dream of something more effective! The fact that it made my periods completely stop is a huge bonus too! I actually had such great success my sister got one as well and has had the same experience as me. I do understand it doesn't work for everyone, but I can say for certain there are people who it works wonders for! I plan on getting it again when it is time to get the one I have now removed. I've had my Nexplanon for a 1 1/2 years and I love it! I always had problems taking my pill everyday and would forget or take it at different times and I tried the shot and that made my appetite increase so much I was eating excessively and gained a lot of weight. With Nexplanon I had no weird periods or excessive bleeding. After the first few months my periods went away completely and I have haven't had one since and haven't had any type of bleeding at all so don't be scared because of all the negative comments on here. I do know quite a few other people who have it as well and have had 0 problems.Read More Read Less

I have had the implant for three years and am getting ready to have it replaced because it is that good. I experienced absolutely no side effects. Never gained weight or had a period at all. The only downside was I had to keep buying pregnancy tests to make sure that I wasn't missing a period due to pregnancy. No bleeding at all. Do you have any idea how wonderful that is?

I did a lot of research and read every review out there before deciding to go with Nexplanon. And there are a lot of scary reviews out there! I was on the pill for 2 years before I got the insertion and I had no major issues with it. The transition to the insertion was easy. No mood swings, weight gain, acne or any of the other horrible side affects. I had a short, light period soon after I first got it and Iâ??ve had 2 very light periods since. Every womanâ??s body will react differently to birth control and Iâ??m here to give this a good, non-scary rewiew. Read More Read Less

when I first had the nexplanon put in my arm I was excited because I didn't have to worry about bc for the next 3 years. Now bleed extremely heavy to the point when the clots come out it looks like I'm having a miscarriage, I have mood swings like I'm bipolar, and I gained almost 60 pounds. I don't recommend this birth control to anyone,

100% successful at preventing pregnancy because you'll NEVER HAVE SEX AGAIN. Non-stop bleeding for months + low sex drive = miracle drug for not getting pregnant.

I'm 5'0, 145 lbs and I started using Nexplanon on 10/4/14 (for about 3 months) It has been working marvelously so far but the comments make me fear for the years ahead. No one should be scared to choose this BC Method it is super convenient to not have to remember to take it every morning. If its done correctly you barely feel the insertion (which I looked away from because I'm such a baby lol) and the most you have to do is touch your skin to make sure it's in the right place.. which is fun to show off to your friends and partner! The side effects are there of course but nothing major. Most BC Methods have the same effects it all depends which one is right for YOU! I have previously tried the DEPO Shot and the Lutera Pill and it was a constant hassle when I missed important appointment dates. With the implant I am worry-free for 2-3 more years! Please don't hesitate to at least try this method out!Read More Read Less

This was the worst decision ever. Had it for about 10 months and absolutely hated it. Had two periods a month with random spotting in between. Outrageous mood swings to the point where I would scare myself for being so angry or emotional. Random cramping and the spot where it was in my arm gave off a dull achey feeling. I would not recommend this to anyone unless you are okay with constant random bleeding.

I am a 21 year old, 145 lb, 5' 8 3/4" woman, who has had nexplanon from February 2014, to November 2014. I was honestly scared when they inserted it, just because i didn't know what to expect but it was more then fine, and i was just being a baby about it. I have been on the pill since 2010, and i am not stable with it at all, i forge to take it and things like that. We decided this would be a good fit so i wouldn't have to get a shot and i had heard horror stories about things getting shoved in people and getting stuck in there. This drug was very effective in what it was supposed to be doing. I hardly felt it, and it was kind of fun showing it off if people asked. I had gotten it taken out because of severe depression, severe mood swings, My breasts hurt so bad i thought i was in danger and went to the ER one night, and i had terrible acne on my back and face, also my sex drive was almost nonexistent. I had noticed i wasn't feeling myself about 3 months after i had gotten it inserted, and it just went down from there. I hardly bled, and when i did it was always after sex. It had taken a toll on my relationship between the sex drive and the mood swings and depression, and i also decided that i did not want t one put on any pills for those, just simply for the Nexplanon to get taken out. I have had it out for 4 days and my acne is already clearing up. I switched back to the pill. i am a smoker, but i only started smoking more then one a day 3 months ago. I hope this helps someone who is thinking about getting this drug, just know the side effects!Read More Read Less

I've had my insert for 3 years and have just recently had it removed and replaced. The first three years, I had NO problems with it whatsoever. My skin became more sensitive to irritation and I basically stopped having a period, but that was it. Recently, I'm feeling more hormonal, but I'm wondering if that is because this is my second implant. I have loved this birth control!

Where do I even start. I got nexplanon because I wanted a supposedly reliable and effective form of birth control that I would not have to worry about in any way, shape or form. After the first insertion, I became nauseous, which the nurse related to me that I would feel. From months 1-7 (which brings me to today) I was feeling fine, or so I thought. Five days ago I began to have a creeping anxiety; my fear of death and worrying about things far out of human understanding or control was INSURMOUNTABLE. I had no idea why these thoughts were filling my head, as I and my family DO NOT have a history or anxiety or depression. I then began to think back to my second month on nexplanon, when I had my first panic attack ever in my life, which is something so out of character for me. I then began to correlate nexplanon to these little anxious worries that had been filling my head on and off for this entire year (2019) ever since I got it in January. I got my period four days ago.. and immediately began crying uncontrollably four times a day for the past four days. I had severe anxiety and almost had another panic attack when I was at the gym. I could not control the thoughts that were in my head. I finally was able to get in with the Gyno, and she was able to remove the nexplanon. The only reason I found out about the SEVERE depression and anxiety that were side affects of this hell spawn, was because of women like yourselves who felt the same way I did. I am on day one without nexplanon, and I still have some anxiety left over as it’s leaving my system. God, what I wouldn’t give to feel like myself again. DO NOT listen to Nexplanon’s measly 5-6% statistic of people who feel depression and anxiety form taking it. I have read HUNDREDS of reviews that say the exact opposite. I am recovering now from the removal, but I can tell you, the uncontrollable anxiety and depression is not worth it. I was never warned about this happening to me... do your research, I wish I had.Read More Read Less

Love it! I gradually gain about 20 pounds throughout my 3 year usage. I was very concern with the IUD breaking, because the IUD is about the lenght of your pinky and as thin as flexible white tubing. However it didn't and was place in my arm above them elbow. I also had the breast pain, which wasn't to bad. It should be call breast tenderness, because I doesn't hurt to the point you can't function.

I am 37 and have 2 children. Ages 19 and 9. I got Nexplanon after having my fiancés 14 year old daughter put on it. I don't want anymore children and chose this because of the effectiveness. My step daughter had no bad side effects. Other than the first month she bled a lot. The first month for me was fine. So I suggested to my 19 year old daughter to get this as well. This is when it all went down hill for my self and my daughter. She started having bad side effects immediately. She hasn't stopped bleeding, super moody, gaining weight, acne, hair falling out etc.. It has had a similar effect on me. I have a semi normal period. It is very long and very heavy though. Before on the pill I had from spotting to no period at all. My hair is falling out, I have more acne than usual, gaining some weight, and hot flashes. But the worst part of this birth control for me is my moods. I become angry very easily or I am really really sad. I have no control over how I am going to feel. I hate everyone or I am crying. I don't know why it has done this to me. My daughter isn't nearly as bad as I am and step daughter is fine. But it's making me a crazy person. I feel like if I don't get this removed I am going to be a big fat acne covered angry crying bleeding person that no one wants to be around. So I am having in removed in 3 days and so is my daughter. My step daughter is keeping hers in because it isn't effecting her. If you are really considering it I think it's worth trying but if it isn't working out for you it should be removed. Everyone is effected differently by things. Read More Read Less
