I was prescribed this by my Pain Management Doctor due to severe opioid induced constipation. I am 6'3" 245 lbs and this one little pill I felt in twenty minutes. After another 20 minutes I felt massive cramping and barely made it to the bathroom. I have never had anything work that fast ever! I did break out in cold sweats and felf very tired after my bowels were cleared. I would hate to think wh...

I'm disturbed by the comments here too, and it almost stopped me from taking this drug. This medication is working for me, although not perfect, I do have at least 3 bowel movements a week. This is much more satisfactory that it was in years past. I didn't have ANY side affects, and the reviews here scared me to death. I waited a full week prior to taking this med because of it. Don't let the bad reviews stop you, this is a safe medicine. Just take it AS PRESCRIBED on an empty stomach, as it says and you should be fine. I had a bowel movement right away. Thank God someone is thinking of us. I've spent years in this misery. Read More Read Less

I am troubled by reading all the reviews on this drug. I've been taking montivak for about six months and have had great success. I have dealt with constipation the better part of my adult life. I have had no side effects whatsoever and now having regular bowel movements every three days, which is a miracle for me. It's a wonderful working drug but I guess just now for everyone.

I have been constipated for 20 years. I live on miralax which is very expensive and only works occasionally. I've had to go to the ER due to my constipation and let me tell you, there is nothing more painful and humiliating than what I went through. I was basically butt raped by a doctors fingers. I deal with excruciating pain daily, but I will never forget that pain and embarrassment. So when I took Movantik for the first time, it was a miracle! I feel bad for those of you who had such bad experiences because this is a miracle pill for me! Yes, I have mild cramps and spend a lot of time in the bathroom, but I have years of bathroom time to make up for! Read More Read Less

My first dose worked in 5 minutes but I didn't stop going or vomiting for 3 days. Couldn't eat or drink. Sweats and chills..feeling like I had the flu coming on . my back hurting like heck. Felt like I had no meds in my system. The worst stomach cramping ever and I have U.C. also. Who would make something that makes you feel like crap not able to move for days? I'd rather go back to full myralax clean outs..I have wear depends at this time I'm 35.. Either its a depend or feces and vomit on the floor. Read More Read Less

TO THE 4/12/16 COMMENT PERSON: THANK YOU!!! I do have the name of the person who wrote the long comment about this med, he/she wrote it on 4/12/16. After reading his/her comments & reactions, I would like to say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for being sensitive enough to let us all know. THAAANK YOU! When we suffer with Chronic Severe Pain, we do not need to suffer further!!! I usually take TARGIN for constipation and that is only when completely constipated to the point when it feels really uncomfortable. Otherwise, it is just part of my life with pain. I find that if I eat the necessary nutrition that does help and/or prevents constipation, it is enough. Don't get me wrong, my pain meds dosage is the kind that has never being seeing before, therefore, the constipation used to be like giving birth each day, that's it, that's how painful constipation would get. So if there's one person who knows, it is ME, totally ME! It is "hard" and extremely "slow". Although, I do have 4 sample boxes of this med, I am so so so grateful for this person to warm me about the effects it had on him/her. I realize how embarrassing it is talking about this kind of stuff; however, it is extremely considerate of him/her regardless!! When people are stuck living with pain, it is not just the pain, it is the appointments, dosage of meds, doctor’s and pharmacy long-lasting relationships, side-effects of the meds;constip.dehydration, loosing all teeth, etc that usually takes a good 3-5 years to stabilize, other' judgmental attitude, incl.family, etc.. Obviously, this person knew enough about pain to warn everyone else like him/her to not suffer through this insanity! So, again, THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH! I will definitely not even try this and stick with "Targin" or better, food with high fiber. Soft ice scream, white cheddar popcorn with dark chocolate together also works really really well for severe constipation! ;-)) Sylvie Read More Read Less

ON 4/12/16, I THOUGHT I WAS REALLY GOING TO DIE. I HAD TAKEN MY 1ST DOSE OF MOVANTIK 25MG. I HAD BEEN HESITANT ABOUT TAKING THIS MED FOR AN ENTIRE 10 DAYS. I TOOK OUT 1 PILL AND IT SAT ON MY NIGHTSTAND IN A PILL CUP, AND I JUST KEPT LOOKING AT IT. THEN FINALLY, NOT HEEDING TO MY INTUITIONS... I TOOK IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS HOLDING ON TO THE TOILET AND CALLING ON JESUS AND HIS ANGELS, MY MOMA, AND DADDY (WHO ARE IN HEAVEN),TO COME AND SAVE ME FROM AN EXPERIENCE THAT ONLY SATAN WOULD APPROVE OF. VOMTING, DIAH, SWEATS, CHILLS, YAWNING, WEAKNESS...THIS WAS THE START OF WITHDRAWAL SYSTEMS, THAT WOULD GET WORSE AS TIME WENT BY. I WAS ON THE TOILET BUT COULD BARELY SIT UP FOR THE PAIN FROM HELL. I ASKED MY FAMILY TO CALL AN AMBULANCE BUT THEY TOLD ME I DID NOT NEED ONE. I AM 61 YRS OLD, AND ON PAIN MEDS FOR A REASON. BUT THEY CONVINCED ME IT WOULD GET BETTER. I COULD NOT SEE IT AT THE TIME, BUT I WAS A REAL SOLDIER AND SUFFERED THRU IT. I WAS SCREAMING FROM THE PAIN. I PASSED OUT AND SLEPT 5 HOURS STRAIGHT. MY DAUGHTER DREW ME A BATH SEVERAL TIMES. THE WATER KEPT GETTING COLD B'CAUSE I WAS TO WEAK TO GET UP AND GET IN IT. ANYWAY, AFTER 24HRS OF HELL, I TOOK MY REG DOSE OF PAIN MEDS. THEY DID NOT WANT ME TO. BUT I DID. HAD IT BEEN THEM IN PAIN LIKE THIS, I BELIEVE THEY WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. I NEEDED RELIEF, AND I GOT SOME. THAT WAS THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMED TO HELP, BECAUSE THAT ONE PILL HAD DREW ALL THE PAIN MEDS OUT MY GUT. SO,THAT ENTIRE EPISODE LASTED 24HRS. IT IS NOW 4/19., 4 DAYS LATER. MY STOMACH IS STILL SORE AS HELL, AND MY LOWER BACK FEELS WORSE THAN EVER. PLEASE, DO NOT TAKE THIS MED. I AM STICKING WITH MOM, SMOOTH MOVE, AND BISACODYL. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT A CANCER PT. WOULD GO THRU IF THEY TOOK MOVANTIK? THEY ARE ON 10X WHAT I TAKE. THEY ARE ALREADY IN SERIOUS PAIN..THEN TO BE CONSTIPATED AND GIVEN THIS MEDICATION! ANYWAY, STICK WITH ORGANIC OR REGULAR LAXATIVES. HELL, THEY SHOULD PAY ME FOR PAIN & SUFFERING! Read More Read Less

I'm a PM patient suffering from several spinal injuries, I received from two auto accident that left me disabled. I'm currently taking two strong narcotics, sleeping pills and migraine medicine for the rest of my life. Because of these medicines, I too suffer with severe OIC so my PM doctor prescribed Movantik 25mg! The next morning I took 1 pill on a empty stomach as told, within 30mins to 1hr the cramps started with a light bm. As the time passed the crampings became more and more severe and it was joined with hot/cold chills and nausea! Still a small bm... As I made it to the toilet for the fourth time, all hell broke loose!! I was in so much pain it was radiating everywhere...that's when my nausea turned into me vomiting (which after four times it became dry heaves, because my stomach was empty) I'm still sitting on the toilet naked at this point because of the hot/cold chills which are causing me to shake uncontrollably! My heart is racing and I have a big bm... then everything goes black!! Next thing I remember, I'm on my knees with my head in the tub! I try to get up but I couldn't... I passed out again this time in my vomit on my bathroom floor! Come to find out later... My dog heard when I hit the floor after passing out and started barking, running back and forth alerting my sleeping daughter that something was wrong! Long story short, she found me unconscious and called 911 for help! I felt and thought I was going to die! Turns out I had an severe allergic reaction to the movantik. Yessssss, it emptied my bowels but it caused me so much more! I re-injured my neck and shoulders worse and I'm still having cramps in my stomach... All from taking one pill that is still in my system and has to make its way out completely before the side effects stop!! I pray no one else has to experience the pain and suffering I had to endure from this medication.Read More Read Less

I've just taken my FIRST dose, and like magic...less than 90 minutes and I had the first "near normal" BM I've had in 6 years, since I was paralyzed by a virus that attacked my spine at the T12. Prior to that I had been on pain Meds for 4 years (for disc ruptures in the C Spine, pressing into my spinal chord, and refusal to have neck surgery), but I ALWAYS handled the constipation from Vicodin, then Lorcet, with LOTS OF VEGGIES AND LOTS OF EXERSIZE, distance walking, swimming, and meditation and Yoga, when able. But, after I was unable to walk, and Neuropathic pain was added to the severe neck pain...My need for narcotic pain Meds went up, and I became severely constipated. My only recourse was MORE veggies, daily fiber supplements, stool softeners, Miralax, and Docosol Mini Enemas ! Then all that stopped working, and I had to resort to "manual removal" of mini hard balls, or suffer a complete bowel blockage !! Each month, at my pain clinic, I checked the "severe constipation" box, on the Doctors intake questionnaire !! No help there, it was ignored...until I saw a TV commercial ! Thank God for that...I researched the drug on several Web sites, and asked for a prescription at my appointment 2 days ago. The Doctor had RAVE reviews of the medicine !! But had never bothered to offer it to me. A handicapped patient, who actually has LOWERED MY OPIATE DOSEAGES, and suffered more pain, just to try to have normal bowel movements !! My insurance is good, my co-pay is only $24 !! THANKS TO A COMPANY ADVERTISEMENT I HAVE RELIEF !! I will up date this review, after a few weeks ! But, I have every confidence this will help me. For those with NO or VERY HIGH co-pays, maybe you should contact the drug company, many are very COMPASSIONATE TO YOUR NEEDS, and will help with discounts, coupons etc. GOOD LUCK !!Read More Read Less

I used this medicne just like the doctor told me and it worked within 45 minutes. I was using other bowel medications as well as over the counter for years with no release. Until today... This is magic. I feel symptoms but they are mild enough to handle. I'm truly amazed. Thank you so much!

After waiting weeks for my insurance to "authorize" payment for this drug, I paid just over $100 for a month supply (I have Medicare part D). I've been a chronic pain patient for about 10 years and SEVERELY CONSTIPATED since the beginning. I don't want to be disgusting, but I think knowing my personal numbers will give you a better idea of what this drug did/didn't do for me. Sounds unbelievable, but I was averaging one B.M. every 18-20 days. I've seen every specialist in the Midwest for this problem, but no one could fix this for me. I've tried the other RX constipation meds after also having used every OTC laxative on the shelf at my local pharmacy, but to no avail and no help. I started Movantik in December and after about a 12 day wait, I finally had a B.M. Then another, 13 days later. This has continued until recently when I made the decision that I would no longer be paying $50 for each additional B.M. I was getting per each $100 monthly rx cost. So now I'm back where I started. Barely eating and in severe abdominal pain ON TOP of my other chronic pain. Read More Read Less

I had a bad reaction on first try but cut dosage in half 12mg this has worked for the past 10 days. I have been constipated for over five years since an auto accident. This drug is wonderful it is the nearest thing to a regular bowl movement I have had. Find the correct dosage and you will be amazed.

Experienced the severe reaction. About 30 mins after taking it, first thing in the am, began to get severe gas pains and then proceeded to spend the day in the bathroom completely emptying my system. That's why I gave it a high rating for effectiveness.

My doctor told me to take this medication at night before bed, I did this for 4 nights with no results so I looked up how to take this medicine and he gave me wrong directions in taking this. I started taking it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and within 1 hr I started having results. I've taken all kinds of medication for constipation and this is the only medicine that has worked for me. The first couple days I had some cramping, but after 2 days that cramping went away, I figured it was because I was so backed up. My bloated stomach is gone as well as the horrible pain in my low back from nerves being pinched from not going to bathroom. I highly recommend this medication for anyone that's been on narcotics and have trouble going to bathroom. Give it a chance and take on empty stomach then eat bout an hour later. I won't go without this medicine, it's the only thing that's helped me feel normal again.Read More Read Less
