Nobody likes to get flu shots. I am a 43 year old with a history of heart surgeries and a pacemaker. Getting a flu shot is to prevent more serious illness. With the "older" flu shots based on eggs and possible preservatives, I always had a large reddened and slightly itchy area following the vaccination. I may be allergic to latex or some of the preservatives used, so I decided to try the 2018-2019 flublok vaccine even though it has not been on the market for that many years yet. It has been a week since my vaccination, so whether or not it will help in the coming months, I do not yet know. However, my first adverse reactions to it has been: muscle aches all over. A feeling of being congested. Very slight redness (size of a dime at most), which only lasted 2 days. Tiredness. But that can also be because of the change of weather. Either way, getting the Flublok vaccine was no worse than the reglar flu shot, and I generally seem to tolerate it slightly better.A nurse I spoke to said he got the regular flu shot (which also has no preservatives in it), and this was the first time he reacted to it, so I really do not think it makes much of a difference which flu shot you get. Flublok is probably a better choice if you are not sure if you react to eggs. Read More Read Less
