I have had very good results with this medication. I am a crohn's disease patient and so also get duodenal ulcers and have had a GI hemorrhage which was also treated with pantoprazole. I am also a practical Nurse with 20yrs experience. One thing I would like to address is the comments regarding the generic versions of the medication. A generic MUST have exactly the same medicinal ingredient as...

I have Barret's esophagus and was switched to this because insurance stopped covering Nexium. This does nothing for me. I have horrible heartburn and burning in my gut all the time now. It's the worst.

Originally prescribed 40mg delayer release for GERD. Wanted me to take it days on end for yrs. PPI's are not meant for yrs. I had reaction (in my 60's w progressive M.S. & seizures). This med gave me severe vertigo, hives, stomach swelling. Throw out closet. Then was put on Famotidine for yrs. Ended up in E.D. with intestinal bleed. Famotidine can cause colitis & Pantoprazole can cause C-Diff intestinal bleed. I am appalled in E.D. they actually put this in my I.V. drip w/o asking me and for what? I wasn't in there for heartburn. I had G.I. bleed. I got immediately sicker. I didn't know until 2 weeks later they put it in my I.V. Do not allow Drs to take control of your meds when they don't even ask you what you can and can't take.Read More Read Less

I have taken Pantoprazole 40mg for two years. Worked great for stomach acid. However, recently diagnosed with a 4mm kidney stone caused by the long term use. Stopped using Pantoprazole.

2 psychiatric stays, Panic attacks and a suicide attempt from this med. I was put on this med for mild gastritis. I already had mild anxiety. Nothing like this though. I was hospitalized for a panic attack that I thought was the fault of esotalipram but it was the pantoprazole. I have been having severe anxiety since then and have had TWO stays to a psych ward because of the amount of anxiety and suicidal thoughts this med has given me. I was perfectly functioning before. I have been on Pantoprazole 20mg for almost 2 years and it works terrifically! I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want without experiencing any acid reflux! The only side effect from the medication that I noticed is a little insomnia here and there, but nothing that I can’t tolerate.

I have a hiatal hernia and have been taking generic Protonix for several years. I haven't had any side effects. It helps my heartburn, I watch what I eat, nothing that would give me heartburn which is only a few foods.

Helped decrease acid reflux but made me miserable. It gave me insomnia and is still making my hair fall out even after not taking it for 30 days. My hair continues to fall out at an alarming rate every time i touch it or try to comb it. How long will it take to stop falling out? My hair is already fine but at this point I think I'll have to go get a couple of wigs or a hat just to go out in public. I am very disappointed this side effect was not toward the top of the list. Had to dig deep to uncover it.Read More Read Less

I was admitted to the hospital with and esophegeal ulcer due to GERD erosion. Upon release I was put on one Pantoprazole tablet per day and it work wonderfully. My acid remained under control, I could sleep through the night again. A true, miraculous, God send.

I have been taking this medication for 10 years. It works for acid reflux. I have a serious bone loss problem now. This medicine stops calcium supplements from being absorbed where you need it. I have osteoporosis and have to take very expensive injections for slowing down my bone loss. Not happy about about that at all.

After taking this medication for almost 3 months my joints started to ache. My upper legs, lowers legs, ankles, wrists, inside my elbows and arms, terrible side effects. Fixed one problem caused another just like all prescribed medication. Against my better judgement I used this. Never again.

I have suffered from severe heartburn/reflux for decades. I have a hiatal hernia with barrett's esophagus. I was prescribed Pantoprazole and I have not had any heartburn from day 1 of taking this daily pill. It's been a miracle drug for me.

Lifelong history of needing/using OTC pills & iquids to relieve my gastric distress & heartburn (NO esophogeal involvement). FINALLY diagnosed in my 70's as simply hyper-acid stomach. Doc prescribed generic Pantroprazole which I took daily for almost 4 years. Then I moved - my new Doc took me off Pantro because of its reported "long-term" effects. Within 3 ays I had to go back on once daily Pepcid-Complete and was told I was just suffering from 're-bound' effect which might last for a few weeks. After a YEAR of continued distress I pressed the doc to put me back on Pantro regardless of long term effects (full disclosure: I am 80 YOA). Doc relented and put me on 20 mg Pantro which, within 2 days, completely addressed my issues. I don't believe I am suffering from any of the listed side-effects reported by others, but the Doc has put me on daily OTC supplements (Vit B12 1000 mg & Magnesium 250 mg) and is following my lab reports during semi-annual check-ups. I regret the bad effects reported by others here but, after virtually a lifetime of suffering, this problem this drug has been wonderful for me. 2r7ttvRead More Read Less

I never have heartburn and before I was diagnosed with Barrett's, I had it all the time. I was on Mylanta and that is all. These pills have completely taken the burn out of my life.

I have had GERD since I was an infant and have tried several methods of trying to relieve my heartburn. I tried omeprazole and it worked in the beginning but gradually lost effectiveness. This little pill, however, is a miracle-worker! I take one a day and have 0 heartburn!

Have been taking 40mg once a day for a couple of years. I think it is losing it's effectiveness because I have been getting severe hiccups when I eat. I take this in the morning. Last night, I took an additional 40mg tablet before bed with my evening meds. This morning, felt much better and no hiccups when I had breakfast. Going to continue through the weekend and advise my doctor on Monday of the results.
