I have had very good results with this medication. I am a crohn's disease patient and so also get duodenal ulcers and have had a GI hemorrhage which was also treated with pantoprazole. I am also a practical Nurse with 20yrs experience. One thing I would like to address is the comments regarding the generic versions of the medication. A generic MUST have exactly the same medicinal ingredient as...

I have Barret's esophagus and was switched to this because insurance stopped covering Nexium. This does nothing for me. I have horrible heartburn and burning in my gut all the time now. It's the worst.

After being on this medication since last year I am now suffering from a very itchy rash which I now find out can be a side effect. I also occasionally still have pains that seem like a heart attack. I am going to stop taking it for a while to see if the rash goes away.

The doctor has kept me on this drug for 8 mos. I'm stopping it right now after experiencing several of the worst side effects with increasing severity. Terrible diarrhea.

My doctor has had me on this frug for 8 mos. I have developed severe diarrhea. It's so bad I cannot leave the house. All my normal activity like golf 3 times per week have been stopped. I'm stopping taking this since reading here about side effects, especially for seniors.

I have to take high doses of prednisone when I have an asthma flareup. This causes daily, severely painful Nutcracker Esophageal spasms. This med stops them. However, it also STOPS bowel movements and causes intractable constipation until you stop the med and take a dose of Milk of Magnesia. 2 days afterwards the spasms start again without the Protonix. So frustrating b/c the spasms cause me to have to stay at home b/c of the severity of them. They last an hour and can recur later in the same day. I'm so discouraged. Doctor has just prescribed Glycate. That website says it can cause constipation. Oh my!Read More Read Less

Was given this generic medication instead of name brand protonix. It is not effective at all for my symptoms! After a weeks use all my symptoms are back! Burning pain. Would leave no stars but would not let me. I have used protonix for last 5 years with no symptoms!

I see that it is recommneded to stop taking this drug after 8 weeks unless otherwise directed. I have been taking this for almost 6 months - once a day. I am now experiencing some of the side effects mentioned, especially the diaherra and muscle aches. I am going to stop using for a few weeks and see if it eases these side effects.

I took Prilosec for years and my doc suggested this and it works far far better. Wish I had started it 10 years ago.

Dr. directed take one half hour before breakfast. For me has been a "miracle" drug. Historically had heartburn from time to time, but then began having more and more acid reflux and increased difficulty swallowing. Got so bad had to sleep sitting up. Endoscopy showed erosion and damage to esophagus. The pantoprazole worked from the first dose or two to put a stop to the acid reflux and heartburn. Trying to lessen frequency of taking as directed by Dr. and trying every other day but can tell when haven't taken it that day. Have not had any "side effects" that I recognize resulting from taking. Only concern is what are the long term side effects!Read More Read Less

I've been put on this to use with Celecoxib but find it ineffective, so that I'm boosting with Gaviscon multiple times per day. I was on Omeprazole, but that was ineffective too.

Was on Nexium for 3 years. Drug program switched me to pantoprazole which I have been using for at least another 4 years. Both have worked very well. Friends say I should be aware of long term effects which I have not had. Love it, stopped the gerd in days and has not returned.
