Had been on Advair for 10 yrs and gladly switched 5/2019 as my out of pocket limit was going way up under new plan. Same drugs and dosage but the delivery to the system seems less effective. With Advair I could miss a dose or be a few hours late and I wouldnâ??t even notice it. Now, I need to be really careful to take it exactly 12 hrs apart as thereâ??s no margin. Also I think I have to be more c...

I find the mouth piece difficult to use. It does not seem like I am inhaling enough of the medication.

I've used Advair for about 9 years and it worked well for me. I was switched to Wixela about 2 months ago by my insurance. My breathing is noticeably worse, I'm coughing, hoarse and clearing my throat often. I'm not sure if this medication is doing much at all. When I was on Advair I rarely needed to use my rescue inhaler, now I need to use it almost daily.

I am so frustrated with the insurance companies and Pharmacies' wanting to constantly change me from Advair to Wixela. It doesn't work nearly as well, it gives me a constant tickle in my throat/cough, and gives me Laryngitis. I cannot keep doing this to my body, especially as a singer. I'm tired of constantly fighting them on this but my voice is trashed every time I use Wixela so I will keep fighting!

I get very little relief from it, and I took Advair for years, in fact as a child I was part of the clinical testing for the first long-acting asthma inhaler! I was lucky to be on the team that got the real medication! I used the real thing until Medicare Advantage program forced me to switch. I had so many breathing issues, the doctor had to put me on Spiriva and Arnuity. Long story short, Wixela does NOT work! Please take it off the market and give us back Advair!

Since my insurance changed me from Advair to Wixela I have been slowly going hoarse. I have been to an ENT, had a throat scope and now they want me to go to a Neurologist. I keep telling them it's the Wixela. The cost to me for Wixela is MORE than the Advair was. I want to go back to Advair.

The VA put me on Wixela. The 60 shot unit reached 44 and I was through with this stuff. Breathing in this dust started giving my coughing episodes that were hard to stop. Mucus coming up with each cough as my lungs tried to get rid of this stuff. Headaches from coughing. Terrible idea for application of medicine. Very little, if any benefit was apparent. Symptoms of a bad chest cold I'm still trying to get over caused by this medicine.

I have used Symbicort for several years with no complaints. It was fairly expensive but I paid for it. My VA doctor suggested I try Wixela (the VA formulary substitute). It was absolutely ineffective. I can only assume the VA bean counter that made this switch only read some marketing materials.

I have had bad asthma for 40+ years and have tried most inhaled medications with moderate success. My doctor put me on Advair 500/50 over 20 years ago and it worked great, along with my 2 other inhalers. It worked well enough for me to get scuba certified and to go on a Himalayan trek. Unfortunately, my insurance company stopped paying for my Advair and switched me to Wixela. Around this same time, I moved back to the East Coast in 2021 after having lived in the Western states for the past 10 years. My asthma became worse gradually, and I attributed it to being back home again. It wasn’t until a few days ago when I was able to get hold of an Advair inhaler, that I finally questioned the efficacy of the Wixela one. I know that the main ingredients are identical but something is off. I am an RN and I know of several drugs where the generic and the name brand are DEFINITELY not equivalent and the doctor will check off “do not substitute with generic.” I strongly suspect that this is the case with Wixela.Read More Read Less

Hesitantly, I finally started using this med. I got immediate relief. As time went on, it continued to work for longer periods of time. I have asthma, chronic bronchitis & emphysema. I take med twice per day. I seldom have any breath'n problems for past 3 mos.

Asthmatic for 40yrs. Was extremely well controlled on Advair. Insurance stop covering it and forced me to switch to Wixela. It is absolutely terrifying that the FDA would approve Wixela. A drug that clearly has little to no efficacy. People rely on this medication to BREATHE!!!!! I’ve been forced to go on prednisone multiple times to get my asthma under control since switching to Wixela. Side effects are worse too. Swore throat. Thrush and thick (almost concrete) mucus.

I had been taking advair for 10+ years and the pharmacy changed it to wixela without my (or my doctor's) knowledge or consent. At first I was excited to have a lower copay but within two weeks I was experiencing severe shortness of breath, constant coughing, irritated throat, headaches.

I'm 68 and have had asthma since birth. I also have COPD now. My asthma specialist was involved in the clinical trials of Advair and he told me there was a drug coming out soon that would be perfect for me... that was Advair. I've been on it since it hit the market. My new drug program, OptiumRX, put me on Wixela. I had two packs of Advair left so I went on Wixela as soon as it came to test it. Within a week my breathing got to the point I was out of breath going up a flight of stairs. I stayed on it for the month and my quality of life tanked. I even took a dose of each, put them side by side on a microscope slide to compare the particle sizes. They looked the same. When I went back on Advair it took about a week and I was back to my normal. With Advair my breathing is so good I forget to take it on time. Now I have to fight with my drug program to get back on Advair!Read More Read Less

I posted a 5-star review here about one month after starting to take Wixela for a serious Asthma problem. Now that I have been on the 250/50 version for a much longer time I need to update by posting the two side effects I am now experiencing. #1: moderate but aggravating headaches starting shortly after each use which I have been able to control by taking OTC pain pills immediately after using Wixela. #2: mild itching of my back & sides with no rash. These side effects are aggravating but since Wixela is very effective at controlling my Asthma I am continuing to use it. Read More Read Less

I was using symbicort for years with no problems. The VA switch me to wixela, and after one month, I have had just about all the side effects listed for this medication. I could walk daily and do cardio pulmonary exercises. Now I am lucky when I can walk fifty feet.

Inhaled medication is more grit than powder. Asthma symptoms that were perfectly controlled by Flovent are worsening since starting the Wixela. The inhaler is a disastrous mistake. Don’t know what FDA was thinking. Finances before efficacy, I guess.

Gave me a fat lip and gum irritation at the site where the Wixela was inhaled. I followed instructions exactly, washing my mouth out well with water and following up with mouthwash.

I have been on Advair for years with no problems and no hospitalization. Express Scripts changed to Wixela. I did not notice a difference for 2 days. In day 3 I was getting short of breath. On day 4 I was struggling to breathe. I went back to Advair and was better in 2 days. I don’t believe that this medication is even close to Advair.
