Had been on Advair for 10 yrs and gladly switched 5/2019 as my out of pocket limit was going way up under new plan. Same drugs and dosage but the delivery to the system seems less effective. With Advair I could miss a dose or be a few hours late and I wouldnâ??t even notice it. Now, I need to be really careful to take it exactly 12 hrs apart as thereâ??s no margin. Also I think I have to be more c...

I have been using Advair fo years with perfect control. I haven't had to use a rescue inhaler for at least five years. During the first month on Wixela, I have had to use my rescue inhaler about 7 times, so my asthma is no longer controlled. I reviewed some of the studies, and Wixela should work, so I am surprised it hasn't worked for me, and don't know why.

I had been taking advair for 10+ years and the pharmacy changed it to wixela without my (or my doctor's) knowledge or consent. At first I was excited to have a lower copay but within two weeks I was experiencing severe shortness of breath, constant coughing, irritated throat, headaches, a rough and raspy voice and for the first time ever, thrush on my tongue. I found the device itself to be difficult to use and kept getting a blood blister on my thumb from pinching it in the device. It took me 6 weeks to get approval to return to advair and after just a few days I'm already starting to feel a little bit more like myself. Sadly I don't think that this version works for me. Hopefully it will work for others but I definitely feel like that this is a decision that should be discussed by your pharmacy with you and your doctor!Read More Read Less

I have used Advair for 18 years. In my whole life it was the first ever medication to keep me from having to go to hospital for asthma. It made a huge impact in my life for the better. It’s expensive thought and I was excited to hear that a generic finally appeared. I am beginning be disappointed! Wixela is HORRIBLE! And the fact that the studies show it is equally affective is mind boggling to me. Especially since when I read the reviews I only find extreme negative The problem is my insurance wants me to use Wixela the cheaper option I have had it once before. I got so sick. My doctor called and told pharmacy no substitutions We have recently changed insurance and once again the pharmacy gave me Wixela. I decided to give it another try. Thinking maybe it was a coincidence nope! It’s horrible. I can’t sleep at night. I use my rescue inhaler all the time and with advair I use it maybe once a month. In my opinion this medication should be taken off the market! Read More Read Less

I had been taking Albuterol and Budesonide for a severe ASTHMA condition for over a year. I eventually had to use Albuterol 6-7 times per day to get any relief, and even then the relief amounted to only about 75%. I have now been on Wixela for almost one month and it has been very effective in completely relieving 99% of my Asthma with zero side effects.

This is an update from "VN Vet" a day or two ago. I used Symbicort or Trelegy and VA changed me to Wixela. In only a few days I had all the following symptoms (some I did not list earlier). Heavy coughing Heavy phlegm, both nasal and throat Fatigue Achy right ankle, back at hips, both elbows, both shoulders, it felt like joint pain instead of muscle pain loss of appetite (this one threw me) and of course, loss of sleep due to cough and phlegm. I suspected Covid, so I took a test to verify, an it turned out negative. Then switched back to Trelegy, and with in about 18 hours I felt well again. Read More Read Less

Symbicort worked so well I wondered if I only had seasonal asthma as exercise rarely called for finding an albuterol inhaler that worked as they seemed to clog after not being used for so long. Once veterans affairs switched to providing wixela when burn pit copd was becoming presumed to be service connected I’m burning through albuterol as quickly as it’s refilled and possibly some old ones I had stockpiled, too. The few symbicort I had left have been used on the worst days as a single puff and are a life saver. Read More Read Less

I was switched from Symbicort to Wixela and have been on it only a few days. Excessive coughing, lots of phlegm, Also I have lost my appetite. I have tried Trelegy successfully, am going back to it tonight. I have never had such a bad reaction to any medication.

VA switched me from symbicort to Wixela inhub. Since then my breathing is more difficult, not as effective. Wheezing and coughing more. I have since developed pneumonia. This without question was a cost cutting decision at the expense of our veterans.

I had been using Symbicort successfully for about 3 years when suddenly the VA began substituting Wixela. Horrible stuff! Caused daily major problems with hoarseness until I couldn’t stand it anymore. Contacted my VA physician. He said Wixela was only comparable drug available on the VA Formulary. I called the local VA pharmacist. It took me 3 calls to get someone who listened to me. This pharmacist explained that even though Symbicort was no longer on the VA formulary, I could still get it if my VA physician placed a special request for me to receive it. The VA pharmacist said they would message my doctor suggesting he request it on my behalf and advised me to send my doctor a similar request. I advised both that I am immuno-compromised and worried that Wixela was endangering my well-being. TODAY l RECEIVED A ONE MONTH SUPPLY OF SYMBICORT FROM THE VA.Read More Read Less

Pain in arms of a ten. It felt like my elbows were broken on and off. Fire tingling in my feet. Off and on both sides Terrible med, terrible delivery. It is not equivalent to Advair! I am not allergic to and have no reaction to advair! This was a miserable experience. How this passed FDA approval is because someone was bribed or incompetent or both. The worst part is many of these negative Reviews are from disabled and or elderly American veterans. This is positively shameful.

It seems like once I get below 20 puffs left I no longer receive any medicine. I have a hard time breathing until I open a new one. Something definitely wrong with the delivery system. I have brought a few back to the pharmacy and they said the manufacturer would replace those 2 as a courtesy. Never had an issue with Advair and it seemed much more effective.

half a dose daily(1 puff) will make me cough continually for most of the day. A full does 2 hits will keep me from sleeping all night. The wheezing alone is a months worth of nightmare. You will have no social interaction if conversation is required.

As veteran with both some COPD and asthma, the VA had been giving me Symbicort for a number of years which worked fine. A few months ago, after depleting my Symbicort inventory I began using the Wixela. After about 2-3 weeks of use, I developed hoarseness and voice changes. Thinking it might be due to allergies, my civilian family physician suggested I add another allergy med. About two weeks later, I have had no improvement. Instead, I have started having more heart palpitations that had been under control with Metoprolol and I also began having some dizziness. I stopped my use of Wixela and have requested that VA immediately reinstate my Symbicort, but I anticipate they will not comply. Read More Read Less

Increased heart rate and blood pressure to unsafe levels. Inhaling it felt like a very coarse powder with a choking feeling and cough. Only used it ONCE and I already know this drug is GARBAGE designed to save the VA money and increase this specific company profits. Disgusting! Had been on Symbicort for 3 years with NO PROBLEMS.

The VA switched me from Symbicort to wixela with no warning no heads up or anything, I have been on it for a few months , thank God I had two Symbicort inhalers one was an emergency one I keep in my car and the other one I was just fortunate enough to have some left I have been moving into a new place and if I had not have had those Symbicort inhalers I would have been in real trouble and probably a few emergency room visits, aside from the wixela giving me vertigo it's absolutely useless for helping my asthma and COPD I may as well be inhaling dirt because thats about how effective it is. I am now in the process of fighting to get my Symbicort back and they are making me try another inhaler called dulera, I don't know if it will work but if it doesn't then I will have to keep going until they switch me back, the fact that they can just change something that is so important just like that is ridiculous! They have not heard the last of me. I hope you will keep fighting for better treatment along with me. Good luck, to us all.Read More Read Less

I have already posted on here about the VA changing from symbicort to wixela, and the ineffectiveness of the new drug. I finally contacted my primary through secure messaging on My health E Vet and told her how bad it was. She got approval from the pharmacy to put me back on the symbicort. To the other vets who have posted, please try this. Go up the chain of command until you get the results that you need! Good luck.

I took symbicort for over a decade when the VA switched to Wixela. It's been a terrible experience. In addition to the medicine not being as effective as symbicort, it relies on the user's ability to take a deep enough breath to get the medicine in your lungs. I can't take a deep enough breath and it sits on my throat. I have no other insurance, but I will still have to find another pulmonologist to prescribe the symbicort for me. The VA told me to go the ER if I couldn't breathe. I am 60 years old, but the age range only goes to 24 on this site.Read More Read Less

Since I have been switched to generic advair I have had many breathing issues and doesn't work like the brand name advair. This generic needs to be removed. Never had an issue with advair.
