I decided to try St. John's Wort rather than go to a doctor for anti-depressants, and I have been happy with the results. I saw a significant difference in my mood after only about 1 week. Side effects for me include slight headaches (which stopped after the first two weeks) and light sensitivity (nothing my sunglasses can't handle). Although I've never tried other medications, I did not feel t...

When I realized I was depressed I started looking for treatments for it and read about St Johns wort. So I bought some and took it according to directions. It din't seem to do much and after I started using it I started to get headaches which stopped after I stopped taking it.

Withdrawal from this after many months caused me to have high blood pressure. Bottle should have a warning label on it.

I'm trying SJW for depression since I don't want to go on antidepressants because I'm scared of the side effects. It works well for me so far and I've been taking it a couple of days. It knocks the edge off. I still feel the depressed feelings but they are bearable and it's possible for me to eat and feel motivated to get out of the house. Might make it a bit hard to sleep but some Yoga and chamomile tea solves that. Works well when taken along with B-complex and omega 3's. The sun stuff isn't so bad so far but then I already refuse to go out with less than SPF 50 so it hasn't made much of a difference to me. I like it so far and am doing it along with counseling. I recommend it.Read More Read Less

After 2-3 weeks it really seemed to work well to keep me from losing my temper over minor problems and improved my everyday mood in general.

I have been taking St John's Wort on and off for more than 10 years and I've never had any bad experiences. I stopped taking them when I went on birth control but I still take it once in a while when I'm irritable and it makes me feel better right away. I will recommend this instead of a prescription because the positive benefits.

I'm an LPN and was on Paxil and decided to go off because I have osteoprosis and these SSI drugs can cause bone fracture in woman over 50, which is me! A Pharmacist friend and RN recommended St John's Wort. I hope it works! So far it seems to be working and I prefer natural medications without all the side effects!

I have only taken St John's for approximately 1 week, and I can already tell a difference. I don't suffer from severe anxiety or other mental condition, however my day to day routine sometimes becomes so overwhelming that I feel depressed. St. John's balanced my outlook, and I felt an overall feeling of well being.

I am a 70 year old male who has had problems with major depression off and on all of my life. St. Johns Wort has been far more satisfactory than any of the 6 to 8 prescription antidepressants I've used. I was treated from about 1970 on with Antidepressants and in 1991 finally had to retire on a disability for depression. Several years later I discovered St. Johns Wort and since then have not required prescription antidepressants. There have been no significant side-effects, the cost is far less and I have the convenience of buying it at the corner grocery store or pharmacy. Read More Read Less

I have been dealing with post partum depression and had trouble taking a antideppressent. I had tried effexor and it had horrible side effedts I felt like I was going crazy. That was 4 months ago I now am getting counseling and started taking st johns wort. It has helped me alot especially since I am so scared of the side effedts that other medication gave me. I can see a big difference.

started takeng it last week for mild depression. So far it appears to be working quite well with just 2 - 300 mg. tablets a day. I'm using the Tibet Mountain Herbs brand.

As stated by a previous reviewer, I take St. John's wort and within a short period of time (a hour at least) I notice a difference in my mood. I take it as needed and have been taking it on and off for about a year. It reduces the edge from the many struggles in the day. I have no side affects to report. I have recommended it to family and friends but as we all know, what works for one person may not work for another.

I have mild occasional depression and I find St. John's Wort provides modest improvement in about an hour. I only take it as needed and have not noticed any side effects.

After I had my daughter, I was horribly depressed, but I was concerned about the side effects of prescription drugs. So, I tried St. John's Wort... and loved it. You still feel your emotions, but it takes the edge off. You aren't SO sad or SO angry. I feel that it makes me more rational about the issues I am having. The only issue I have is that you have to take it so often. I normally forget to take the three daily doses required, but I find my one at breakfast and one at dinner is satisfactory for me. Take with food or you'll be burping all day! If you are feeling extremes of emotion, I highly suggest taking St. John's Wort. Read More Read Less

I have had a great experience with St Johns wort. I felt a significant improvment in my mood in just 4 days and although I know in my head that my problems are still there I just dont feel so upset by them. I had a slight sensitivity to bright light and a little dry mouth, but have had no other side effects.

Side effects for me include slight headaches (which stopped after the first two weeks) and light sensitivity (nothing my sunglasses can't handle). In short, I feel like a less irritable, more positive and resilient version of my former self.Read More Read Less
