I'm 29 y.o. and took Cytotec to soften my cervix prior to IUD insertion. I took it the night before my procedure and had some very mild cramping through the night. It helped make the insertion painless! I'm so glad my NP prescribed this medication.

I was prescribed 3 Cytotec pills to be inserted vaginally at bed time throughout a period of 3 days before my Hysteroscopy. Let me start by saying IT IS NOT EASY! I have never been pregnat, given birth or had a miscarriage. I took my first pill right before bed, about midnight and put a pad on. I woke up with horrible cramps 2 hours into it. I couldn't go back to sleep. I felt like I was on the wo...

I decided to take this medication orally after I learned I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks. The embryo only grew to 6 weeks. I had nothing to eat the morning I took it and began feeling cramps within 10 minutes of taking it. An hour later I felt a gush. At first it was like menstrual cramps, but after a few days the contractions started. It was the worst, most uncomfortable pain I'd ever felt, and it lasted 3 days. I went to the hospital for a follow up ultrasound and was told the medication didn't fully remove the tissue and I'd need a D&C (I took the Cytotec to avoid a D&C). The Cytotec was a painful waste of time. From my personal experience, it was NOT less traumatic than a D&C. The pain was unbearable and I almost went to the ER. I don't understand why it didn't fully take when the embryo was only 6 weeks along. I don't recommend this medication to anyoneRead More Read Less

I was given the option of using this medication when I miscarried (after 6 wks) as an alternative to waiting for my body to expel on its own or having a D&C. I inserted the pills vaginally and started bleeding and clotting 6 hours later. I had painful cramps but was given pain medication and ibuprofen by my doctor, and both helped a whole lot. However, a month later, I'm still bleeding off and on, my pregnancy hormone is still elevated, and my uterus lining is still thicker than it should be. So I took another round of Cytotec after talking to my doctor. So far I've only experienced cramping. Hopefully I don't have to do the D&C after all.Read More Read Less

I was feeling much better. My husband called the nurse line and she is the one that told him to give me the pain med. thank goodness that worked he was on the edge of calling 911 it was so bad.

Got pregnant and was prescribed Cytotec to avoid surgical intervention. Bought it over the counter in a country where abortion is illegal. Started taking 2 pills x 200mg vaginally every 4 to 6 hours. Nothing happened for as much as 36 hours and after about 16 pills. Except for acute cramping, diarrhoea, the egg was still intact in my uterus as shown in the echography. I stopped taking the pill on Thursday at noon, depressed and worried that I would have to go through the surgery anyway. But at night around midnight, I started bleeding and it lasted for few days, just like heavier than normal period. It was longer than we thought but ended up working ok. Read More Read Less

Was told by gyn to take two Cytotec pills before bed night before I was to have uterine biopsy next morning to make cervix softer/easier to get biopsy since I was 55 and hadn't had a child for 23 years. I had been bleeding heavily with clots for over a month. About 30 min. after taking the Cytotec I experienced heavier cramping, bleeding, felt weak and nauseous. I was unable to sleep at all that night for the pain and having to get up and change pads. Was barely able to walk in dtr. office next morning for biopsy. Told them I would never take it again. Had another uterine biopsy recently and did not take it. It was no problem doing the biopsy so apparently didn't need the Cytotec the first biopsy. Please think twice before using this, especially for a biopsy procedure. It was unnecessary for me and I wouldn't want anyone else to experience what I did. It was really very scary as I was alone and so weak I could barely get out of bed to change pads but had to. I had to call my husband, an RN, at work who works nights to come home and really thought I would need to call 911 or go to emergency room. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else!!!Read More Read Less

I took this rx as a one-time dose to soften my cervix prior to a uterine saline-sonogram. Within 20 minutes of taking this orally the nite before, I experienced mild cramping that was relieved with a dose of 800mg of IB. This rx made my sonogram much more tolerable than my previous uterine biopsy without it! I highly recommend it if you've had previous difficulty with instrument insertion past the cervix.

I was 16 weeks pregnant when I found out the baby had died at 14 weeks. The baby was too large for my body to pass the body naturally. I had to use two pills and insert them into my vagina then 2 hours before the surgery I had to insert two more. I experienced no bleeding but I had painful contractions in my back and stomach. This medication was used to soften my cervix making it safer and easier to dialate my cervix without any tears. It was sucsessful.

I was prescribed this medication when it was realized that I had suffered a miscarriage. It was my 12 week appt. when this was realized and the baby was measuring 9 weeks. I was instructed to insert this vaginally the night before the procedure. I was woken early morning with SEVERE cramping. Before long I began to suffer what felt like full blown contractions. I arrived at the ER by 6:30am with a D&C scheduled for 1:40pm. They did not bring me in early, so I SUFFERED through contractions that were about one minute apart lasting at least that long for several hours. I finally passed the bled out around noon. This was the most painful experience I have ever had. I have a child and labor was not this bad! I would NEVER recommend this drug to anyone. Save Yourself. Read More Read Less

So after 9 weeks and 3 days of pregnancy, I found out on 5/31/11 my baby was only measuring at 5/29/11 (9 weeks 1 day) with no heartbeat. It was the most heartbreaking moment in my life. My doctor did two ultrasounds and sent me to an ultrasound place for confirmation. Well I had a follow up appointment on June 3rd 2011, my doctor told me my blood pressure has been too high and my thyroid shut down because of the pregnancy hormone so I needed to get the baby out for my safety as soon as possible. She really wanted to do a D&C but for three reasons I did not want to 1. It can perforate your uterus and hurt your chances of having more babies, 2. I don’t like surgeries, 3. I felt I owed it to my baby to deliver her vaginally , and I kinda wanted to see her too! ( Im going to school to be an OB/GYN so this stuff fascinates me and also I just really wanted to meet my little one). So the doctor sent me home with four vaginal cyotecs/misoprostols to insert all at the same time, also gave me 20 norco/vicodin , and 600 mg ibuprofens. Now after reading all the horror stories online I was so nervous and DID NOT want to do this at all, I wanted to do this all naturally for my mental sake, but my doctor insisted my health was more important. So pretty much I was prepared for anything and the worst! But this was the best story I think, out of all the misoprostol/cyotec stories. So you can read on with ease and I hope your experience is the same! Along with the schedual I am about to read you, my mom was making sure my temperature didn’t rise or decrease and was also taking my blood pressure every two hours because these pills have different and interesting stories and she is a worry wart. So here was my schedule: 6/3/2011 1. Inserted four cyotec 200 mg tablets into my vagina at 7pm and also took 600 mg of ibuprofen, and laid down for two hours and didn’t use the batheroom. 2. At 8:52pm I took my 5 mg tablet or norco/vicadin because I started to feel light cramping and I knew iRead More Read Less

I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks. Ultrasound showed all tissue passed but my uterine lining is thicker than it should be. Instead of d and c, dr. prescribed this med. I have been taking it for 3 days now and wondering what's supposed to happen. No cramping, and no bleeding so far. I was told the results would be irritability and a heavy period. Nothing yet. How long does it take to start working?

I too, had an US at 10 weeks of pregnancy, which confirmed my missed miscarriage. I had the options of a D&C, waiting for my body to go naturally, or taking this drug. My baby died at 6.5 weeks, and I didn't want to wait longer, it's just too hard to grieve and move on. I took the drug at 4 pm yesterday, and a pain pill. By 9 pm, I was still pretty comfortable. By midnight, I was in labor, and remained there until about 3 or 4 a.m., before I fell asleep. It was pretty painful, but with the help of my husband there with me rubbing my back and holding my hand, I would choose this again. I passed the yolk sac this morning at 9 and the bleeding has dropped off. Hopefully my US this week will confirm success and then we can try again. I'm sorry for anyone having to consider this, it's a tough spot to be in. I would just recommend having someone close with you when you know you are going to take the drug. I thought I'd be okay in the other room, not waking him up, and I needed him. Read More Read Less
