Today was only my second day of usage, and it has reduced my urination significantly. But I am now worried that i might be retaining urine! How can I tell?

I'm pretty excited about this medication. I haven't had any of the side effects that so many others complained about. I was going every 2 to 3 hours every night and never got a good night's sleep. Now I only go once or twice a night and it's so much better. So far I've only had samples from the doctor but I understand that it is very expensive. That could be a game changer.

It took Gemtesa about ten weeks to start to work for me. I was urinating every one and one-half hours (every ninety minutes). It is working now. I urinate on the average every three hours now. I was urinating about 16 times a day, and I am now urinating 8 times a day. Be patient with Gemtesa. It works.

Ok I’m going to tell my story! I’ve had OAB my entire life…I was born with 2 left fully functional kidneys (no right kidney)..my mother calls me special lol! While growing up, I would have urgency, had many accidents and was not able to hold it to get to the bathroom…I did have a procedure when I was 5, to “expand” my bladder, although no one could tell me exactly what the procedure was, but it seemed to work for the accident portion at least! Fast forward To the present time…I’m 53, two grown daughters…birthed the old fashioned way, I started to get worse and worse as far as accidents were concerned, mainly from the deliveries of both my children and just getting older. I was too “embarrassed” to get it checked out, dealt with it in silence. I went through pad after pad..actually succumbed to briefs…not good for a social life for sure..finally I got my dream job, the drive was at least 45-1hr…I guess you know where I’m going with this! A lot of the time I wouldn’t make it to work without having an accident no matter how I “padded up.” I always had extra clothes just in case. Finally I resorted to getting some help for I just could not take it anymore…went to a gyno urologist and under went some testing…no prolapses yay! Urodynamic study showed something different though…on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst) my bladder spasms were an 8.5! The doctor started me on Myrbetriq…shot my blood pressure up almost immediately! I did not feel well at all on this medication! Then she put me on Oxybutin 10mg XR! Oh my god…it was like a miracle drug for me at first..I took all those side effects in stride because I was down to not needing any support for pads or briefs!! It was life changing! 2 years down the road..it stopped working..going back to the previous problem, they increased the Oxybutin to 15mg XR. The side effects were too much for me I had to stop taking it and go back down to 10mg…better than nothing at all!! I went to a specialist that I had to wait (and suffer) 3 months to wait and see! She was amazing! Discussed Botox injections, ect…she then sprung the GEMTESA on me! Gave me samples..this people is an amazing drug! I know it’s expensive…there is a coupon that will pay for it for a year! Downside…it took 3 months for it to work 100% and my blood pressure is great! It works 100 times better than the Oxybutin, less side effects. Please believe me…don’t give up on it! I’m back to living a normal life! My hold capacity has increased and I can make it to the bathroom!! Once in a while I still have bad days, that is I think to what I am eating or drinking…for example milk/cream is a huge one for me! I hope they come out with a generic soon so it will be cheaper. I know this is long but it’s worth it and a game changer! Don’t give up on GEMTESA if it doesn’t start working right away. Give it a chance!Read More Read Less

Have been taking Gemtesa for about 2 weeks. It did not significantly reduce my urges to urinate, and I'm urinating smaller amounts each time. Perhaps I need to give it more time to work. However, I have developed a horrible bodily itch, getting worse by the day. Itchy all over. I fear that I'm allergic to it. Will stop taking it and see if the itch subsides.

I was having issues with urinary inconstinence and begin having urgency issues so the dr put me on this. I think I have had some improvement. I’m not always looking for the bathroom now that I think about it I am going less often at work. It was embarrassing how often I was going at work even decreasing caffeine intake. I have noticed over the past 4- 5 months on Gemtesa I’ve lost about 4 lbs without trying. Also had some fatigue but not sure if that’s related (do not see that listed anywhere in the side effects, but weight loss is). So for now I will continue to take. I’m not over weight but not underweight so 5 more lbs won’t hurt me but if it continues I’ll have to stop.Read More Read Less

This medication is nothing short of a miracle...I am a Type I insulin dependent diabetic for 52 years and my bladder sort of went within the last few years, None of the old drugs worked so I started using botox which worked in the beginning, not so much now. I started on Gemtesa about a month ago and within one day, I noticed a major difference. it's not perfect but it's darned close. I can actually go out without a gigantic pad. I do have to watch how much I drink but not like before. Couldn't even have a glass of water....Many thanks...Read More Read Less

Worked fine for the first few months over active bladder was under control, then the medication seem to not work anymore. While taking it, made my sinus issues worse. I felt awful all the time, until I stopped taking it.

The first week I took this was truly a miracle! Then the constipation I experienced was beyond AWFUL! Medication stopped working. Stuck it out for about 4 months, switched back to Myrbetriq, and the constipation is gone. Been on so many different meds and nothing really helping much anymore. Myrbetriq is better than nothing at this point.

On the third day I experienced the same constipation that I’ve gotten from other meds. Had to stop taking and was back to normal in a day. This message is new so it isn’t covered by insurance. It costs over $500.00 per month.

My mother has been taking this medication for about 2 months. She has now experienced urine retention and was admitted to hospital because it caused acute kidney disease. She is now using a catheter and has stopped taking medication on 6/11/22. Does anyone know how long it will take before she's able to urinate again on my own? The Urologist couldn't answer that question for me.

I was taking this med for OAB. It caused feet to swell but worse urine retention to the point that urologist wanted me to self Catherization which I refuse. I have immediately stopped this med since even on the Gemtesa site it’s mentioned the most serious side effect is urinary retention. I didn’t have this problem prior to taking Gemtesa.

Gemtessa significantly reduced urination but caused swelling in my feet. Even with taking Gemtessa daily, had major urine accidents through pads, underwear and pants. I am done with this medication.

When I first began using this medication, I found relief from my OAB. Now, about one year later, I think it is not working as well. My symptoms have returned and I am back to using pads and multiple layers of undies.
