This Drug works great & has been the only one that I have found that helps me. WARNING... I was tested for a drug screen in the ER & tested POSITIVE for THC (marijuana)! I was shocked & suprised~ I do not smoke! I made them retest!!! Tested Postive a 2nd time! I found out later that Protonix can make you test positive for THC on a drug test. The bad part was my Dr that I had did not know abo...

This drug is given in the hospitals and I would have to keep my regular medication in the hospital with me because this drug was no help. I just discontinued taking it and took my own while in the hospital.

Ive been on protonix for 6 yrs after severe reflux, it was the only thing that worked, Ive had scopes every year, and just recently they have found polyps in my stomach/esophagus, from the use of this medicine. I was very surprised, I am 44, and my dr has suggested me now going on zantac, Im nervous that it wont work as well BUT I gotta get off this stuff, my gastro dr said they are seeing more long term effects of PPI's, and you have to weigh the risk verses the benefit,I really wish I had been informed of this risk before I started though, you have to be your own advocateRead More Read Less

Bleeding ulcer 10+ months ago. Taking this medication twice a day and not getting better. Going for my 6th EDG, other health professionals want to know why I am not being prescribed carafate, I have no clue. Unless their is only money for the doctor while I am receiving treatment, no money for him if I am cured. So sick of being sick. This condition has affected my whole life.

Having been on ranitidine and having good results for 2 years I have trouble understanding why doc changed meds. This med makes me dizzy, causes heart flutters and raises my blood pressure. Not good after a heart attack.

Just like Nexium and Dexilant, headaches, dizziness, diarrhea, bad on my kidney function and irregular fast/slow heartbeat. The over-the-counter medicines give me pain in the jaw/neck/upper chest. (Prilosec, etc.) I can only take Pepcid AC, any other solutions? The doctors are scatching their heads.

I took Protonix several years ago after trying every other prescription and OTC medication imaginable without much needed relief. My experience with Protonix was a GREAT success. At night before slept I fasted a few hours before going to bed and still took Zantac before sleep but even with Zantac and fasting the other medications were ineffective. Like others who commented on Protonix I truly believe it saved my life. I am now (fortunately) back to eating a normal Italian diet of foods with tomato, onion, garlic, all sorts of peppers, cheese, fried foods and even wine. Also like others who commented, I did experience a lot of gas while taking it but it was a small price to pay for the relief and ultimately getting my life back to normal. I wish you luck! When I take protonix it feels like somebody punched me in the stomach. The same thing happens with Prilosec. dont get heartburn but it hurts all the time. I was just diagnosed with hiatal hernia and inflamed esophagus with a slight stricture and gastritis. So obviously I need to take something. People have said carafate is good. I see GI doctor in 2 months but I will probably sto taking the protonix before that because of the pain.

I have been on Protonix for over 10 years, and I don't know what I'd do without it! My Dr tried me on all of the other ones (Zantac, Nexium, Prilosec), but none of them worked, or had unacceptable side-effects. Before Protonix, I would get a pain that felt like a hot spear going into my sternum, and out my back...when it first happened my Dr sent me to the ER, and they all thought I was having a heart attack: the pain is so severe, it's debilitating. I would have to pull off to the side of the road if I was driving. The only thing that helped, was sipping really cold water...continuously, until the pain subsided. But...you can't always have really cold water with you! (Although I never leave the house without a bottle of cold water, because I do still get some discomfort a few times a month---but nothing like before). My mother had the same problem, and wound up with esopageal erosion (as did I before Protonix), and, eventually...stomach cancer. She never took anything but Gaviscon for it. I thank the Lord for this medication...my quality of life would be just terrible without it...I used to be afraid to not be near a source of cold water!Read More Read Less
