This Drug works great & has been the only one that I have found that helps me. WARNING... I was tested for a drug screen in the ER & tested POSITIVE for THC (marijuana)! I was shocked & suprised~ I do not smoke! I made them retest!!! Tested Postive a 2nd time! I found out later that Protonix can make you test positive for THC on a drug test. The bad part was my Dr that I had did not know abo...

The drug worked very well for the conditions needed and I was on it for years, but there was an ongoing problem I had that I did not associate with this med, and that was constant and odd muscle cramps-even my cheek muscles would cramp! Mostly the cramps were in my legs and I went through many tests and even surgery on my legs to try to fix it, but nothing worked! Then one day someone said to me, stop taking the Protonix for a week, so I did and during that week I did not have a single cramp. However, the heartburn came back. So my doctor switched me to a different drug. It has been a year now and no unusual muscle cramps at all. I have talked to several people since then that have taken the drug and they all said they had muscle cramps, but none considered it linked to the Protonix. Three of them changed their meds and their cramps stopped too. So, if you are having this issue, you may consider a switch.Read More Read Less

I have taken this medication for more than 2 months. I have noticed that it only gives me relief of my acid reflus symptoms for about 10 hrs a day. My dr has had to increase my dosage to 40 mg 2x a day. I am now experiencing more of the side effects, (irregular heartbeat and tiredness). Although tiredness isn't listed in the side effects for the drug, it is the only thing that has changed in my routine.

I have used protonix (or generic sub) daily for about 10 years. The medication works for me with little or no known side effects at the moment. I can certainly tell by about noon if I forgot to take the pill as reflux will return. I tried all the other major brands prior which gave me severe stomach cramping. Protonix has not done that at all. If others aren't working or you have cramping - I'd recommend giving protonix a try.

I have been using Protonix for the past 18 months and it has been very effective. Used Zantac for many years but didn't work anymore. Had terrible burning in mouth and esophagus. Lost 35 lbs and couldn't eat! This drug saved my life!Only side effect occasional gas and bloating. I'm concerned about long term use side effects.Take 40 mgs 1x a day.

For the first 5 months in 2011, I took Nexium for GERD, and lost over 20 lbs. due to nausea and queeziness every morning after taking it. Sometimes during the day, I would vomit without warning, and had no appetite. After an endoscopy, colonoscopy, CAT scan and a diagnosis of esophogeal errosion and anorexia, MD switched me to Protonix/Pantoprazole, and although it took a few days to kick in, I'm able to eat everything again, except spicy foods (never could) and was able to keep most of the weight off. Just recently, RX ran out due to a change of insurance and I've gone almost 2 weeks without it - not good, but am drinking lots of milk and nibbling crackers. I know it works for me and will need to get back on it soon and remain on it for the rest of my life:-) Hope this helps!Read More Read Less
