Allergic to most A/B's? This med was ordered for me by a consulting Infectious Disease MD while I was in the hospital trying to fight cellulitis despite my myriad of allergies to most classes of A/B's. Though I had to stop taking my allergy medication due to it's decongestant, as well as abrubtly discontinue two antidepressants (SSRI's), and then fret over every single thing I ate and drank (thus ...

I just finished a two-week therapy of using Zyvox and another drug due to an MRSA infection. Although very expensive, Zyvox is extremely effective. I didn't have any side effects. This is my second time taking Zyvox and the first time it was just as effective.

Allergic to most A/B's? This med was ordered for me by a consulting Infectious Disease MD while I was in the hospital trying to fight cellulitis despite my myriad of allergies to most classes of A/B's. Though I had to stop taking my allergy medication due to it's decongestant, as well as abrubtly discontinue two antidepressants (SSRI's), and then fret over every single thing I ate and drank (thus the low rating on ease of use DUE TO THE MANY POSSIBLE INTERACTIONS); this expensive antibiotic allowed me to go home to my family and infant son; AND keep the expanders in necessary for breast reconstruction due to bilateral mastectomy for breast cancer without losing any of my available (infected) tissue. Without Zyvox I would have had to remain in the hospital indefinately on IV A/B's and copious amounts of Benedryl to counteract my rashes, hives, and itching caused by the other A/B's. Zyvox caused no such reaction. Results of its effecitveness were noticable in HOURS, which is amazing for an oral tablet. If the possible interactions seem too much to deal with, the consequences of NOT following this med's course of treatment make it well worth the worry and penny.Read More Read Less

Do not take this drug if you have an infection in your lower extremities AND you have poor circulation there as well. I'm in a wheelchair most of the day with my legs hanging down. I've seen very little improvement after 2 weeks, whereas I can see an improvement over a couple of days with Vancomycin. I'm going to beg my doctor to put me back on Vancomycin. It's also causing me diarrhea. I'm not having any problems with my blood though. With this medicine, you must have a weekly CBC and have your blood platelet count monitored, as drops may happen.Read More Read Less
