I am about to finish my second pack and am done with this pill. I am switching to LoSeasonique. Being on Aviane I am very moody, sort of angry quite a bit. My breasts are very tender and I have gained a little over 5 lbs. in a month. I also have very frequent migrines being on aviane. It's not worth feeling horrible on bc. My periods however weren't too awful, we will see how loseasonique does. It's best to find a birth control pills that has more pros than cons too it. Find the right one that is best for you! My previous post has gone off. I am the father of a 24 1/2 year old daughter who took Aviane for 6 months. She was the shining star in my life as all daughters are. She suffered a stroke from taking this medication last May. When she left to go to work we said bye and that's the last thing we ever said to each other. She died the next morning. My reason for posting this is so your Dad does not go through the same thing I have for the last 13 months. If you have headaches more than normal or more intense, that is the first sign you need to see your doctor. This was the onset of her stroke unbeknownst to us. I will be starting my fifth back of Aviane; I've never been on birth control prior to taking Aviane and while I don't love Aviane, I am sticking it out to see if any of the side effects eventually subside. Like every form of birth control, there are pros and cons. I enjoy the protection against pregnancy that Aviane gives me, as well as the generally lighter, less painful periods. That being said, I don't actually like how I feel while I'm on it. Instead of having PMS symptoms for a week or so before my period, I pretty much have it all month long. I have gained about 5 pounds (typical for BC) and experienced a lot of bloating while taking it. I am in the process of changing how I eat and how much I exercise to help this. I haven't really had extreme mood swings, but I've noticed I'm much more negative and less energetic than usual. Still, birth control is what you make of it I guess--these are the trade-offs you have to make for some protection against pregnancy. If you do start Aviane, I would just be prepared for some of the adverse effects and have a plan to cope with them in place. For weight gain and water retention- switch to a healthier diet and exercise. For mood swings--talk to the people around you and let them know that you are adjusting to a new medication. I switched from the patch to this pill and at first I thought it was great.I wasn't as moody but as time went on I have had so many uti even though I do so much to prevent them. Even though my moodiness and depression decreased on this pill, I still am affected by it and would rather be off of this birth control. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow.

I've been taking Aviane for 6 weeks, and haven't had any bleeding at all. I've always had light to normal periods in the past, but haven't gotten any period since I started. And I'm not pregnant--I checked. Also, my blood pressure has gone from low to prehypertension. I'm going to try something else. My doc just switched me from microgestin (which worked well for me) to Aviane because she thought it would help with my acne. It hasn't helped, but it hasn't made it worse either.

i just started my 3rd pack and i have had more head aches then i had before i was on birth control. i've noticed that i am bloated most of the time on this BC. i also feel like im PMSing most of the time. it seems to cause crazy mood swings.

I am 50 years old and started back on bc (Yaz) last October because of drastic changes in my mentrual cycle and heavy, on-and-off bleeding. My doctor switched my bc to Aviane 3 wks ago and OH BOY! After about a week, I couldn't keep my eyes open and I began gaining weight. In 3 wks, I've put on 5 lbs. I'm moody as well. Called my doctor and am switching to something else.

i started taking aviane back in january. i took the pill everyday at the same time. but in febuary i took the off week pill. and to no surprise i didn't start my period. i went to the doctors and found out i was pregnant. this was news to me considering the birth control i was on before was a lesser dosage then this one. to go from being on one for five years and to have to switch becuase your insurance doesn't cover it isn't fair. this was the worst medicine ever. i don't suggest anyone take this medicineRead More Read Less

I have been taking birth control pills for painful periods since age 11 and I am now 21. I have been taking Aviane for the last 7 or 8 years and have had a great experience. I have no nausea, I don't have periods any more (which my doctor says is completely safe), and no cramps as a result. The only concern I have is that my blood pressure rises occasionally b/c of the pills and I never no when it will rise.

I have no side effects whatsoever, although i have with other birth control pills.

I have taken this for 2 months and it has done nothing for me I just keep bleeding and it will not stop unless my Dr has me take 3 pills at the same time than when I go back to 1 pill I start to bleed again it is painful and I pass a ton of clots I have now changed my pills I will not use these again!!

I only used this medication (28 count dosage) for 1.5 weeks because the following happened: light-headedness, headache everyday; excessive tiredness; weight-gain; bloating; nausea; cramps & diarrhea all in that 1.5 week period. I discontinued using this pill fast and will try something else.

I have been taking this pill for around 6 months. I do have light periods. I have been having migranes and am very moody. I have also gained 10 pounds. I am going to try something else.

when starting this medication i was kind of un-easy because i didnt know how it would react to my body.... but now i am having great thoughts and hopes about it. i wish other females who taked this medication the very best luck!

It's good, but i'm considaring changing to an IUD because of the ease of it. The only thing that this pill has helped me with, other than lighter periods is to know when i am going to have my period and birth control. I guess you cant ask for much more.

My daughter was a beautiful 24 year old woman who took Aviane for 6 months to control bleeding. On May 23rd, she went to work and suffered seizures and then a stroke from which she did not survive. This was a young lady who never had anything more serious than a cold or bronchitis. I implore you to watch for signs of blood clots or abnormal headaches as you might be in danger of the same thing. Speaking as Julia's father, I would not want your parents to experience the heartache we have been through for the last few months knowing that it could have possibly been different. Aviane has worked VERY well for me. Prior to getting the prescription I read and researched and saw all the horror stories that came with it.. and got the prescription anyway. Thankfully, I haven't had any of the adverse side effects so many other people have had. My sex drive is still going (it's higher if anything!), I'm not moody, and also, my breasts are a bit fuller now. It was worked very well for me.

I took Aviane for about 2 years and was very satisfied with how it worked and made me feel. However, about two months ago, I went into the hospital with three large pulmonary emboli as a result of these pills. I am only 25 and very active and healthy. I would warn women that take Aviane to be very conscious of any swelling or pain anywhere in the body.

I've just finished the 3rd pack and for the most part, I'm satisfied. The first month and a half I was VERY nauseous and had pretty bad headaches. Friends also commented on a sudden increase in bitchy-ness (true friends would! haha) But all of those side-effects have gone away and I've lost 20lbs since I started taking it (& have not gained any back since the nausea ceased). I took this medication for about 6 years and never experienced anything negative. It regulated my cycles and virtually eliminated all cramps which was a godsend. I probably gained 10 pounds over the past 6 years, but I don't believe that have anything to do with the pill itself...I'm not so much an active person and I love to eat! I never had any issues with acne while on the medication and even off the medication now my complexion remains clear. No abnormal mood swings or anxiety issues other than the occassional PMSing emotions (crying at sappy movies, commercials, etc. that wouldn't normally bother you).
