I was given a short course of Tylenol #3 with Codeine for pain following a dental procedure. It helped, but was not as helpful as Vicodin. I would say this drug would be good for less acute/severe pain, while Vicodin would be better for stronger pain control.

Do not like the dizzy feeling after taking it. Is there any other sleep enhancement that does not have codeine or other addictive drug?

I have been using this drug for almost 25 years now. I only use it when my arthritis gets to almost the point of unbearable. it works very well and usually only use two or three doses spaced 10 hours apart then might not need it for several weeks.

I was prescribed this when I went to CareNow for stitches after cutting my hand open. I've been in constant pain for two days now. I have chronic migraines with nearly constant neck pain so pain is nothing new to me. I expected that the pain medicine I was prescribed would alleviate the pain in my hand at least. This Tylenol 3 is a joke. I even went back for a check up and was prescribed Naproxen in addition to Tylenol 3 as an anti-inflammatory in the hope that the pain would subside. I'm not sure what type of pain this is supposed to address but it doesn't work on neck pain, headaches, migraines or hand pain. I've been on this medicine for three days and the first night I woke myself up moaning every two hours from the pain.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication after receiving seven stitches and a splint for slicing my thumb open from below the cuticle to below the 2nd or middle joint. The first night of taking this medication, it might have helped me sleep a little but I still woke up every 2 hours. I'd say it wasn't any more effective than Advil on the pain which is usually what I take for severe headaches and migraines. I do have a high tolerance for pain as a migraine sufferer...and on the 3rd day of taking this medication, I woke up with the most severe throbbing migraine with nausea in my life which has lasted about 15 hours. I still have lingering effects like the overall weakness when recovering from a migraine. Usually my migraines are weather or super high stress induced. While the weather did change (temp drop of 20 degrees), there is no storm front which is a usual trigger for my migraines and I'm not under high stress now which is why I think this T3 may have brought on the headache at such a level of severity. Even worse, I could not take my usual OTC medication for the migraine since I had taken the T3. I just had to suffer it out and let the T3 exit my system before taking my usual ibuprofen. I'll be returning the unused T3's when I get my stitches out in 7 days.Read More Read Less

Four days of 2 tabs/daily put my 86-year-old mother in the hospital for a week with delirium. Not sure of her pain; she is too confused to be able to tell us. Warnings should include this chance in elderly patients. Prescribed by an urgent care physician who should have known better.

My doctor gave me this to try for my neck pain instead of Flexeril because those were too sedating. The T3's did relieve my neck pain but I found myself feeling depressed (I don't have depression) and very agitated. Based on the way these effected me psychiatrically, I won't be taking them again.

Was given it for appendectomy. I found it to be mildly effective although it didn't last very long. I actually was better at constipating (and this medicine is well known for that.) Even the follow up nurse said, "Oh... all our team gave you was that for the pain? We could've done better".

I had a molar surgically removed. I had never taken T3's before, so I started with one. It didn't do much for the pain, so I took another. After waiting five hours for it to kick in I was in excruciating pain, so I took two more. This time the pain went away and I felt a lot better. I felt the pain relief was good when it finally kicked in, but it didn't seem to last very long. The dentist sait to take 1-2 pills every 4 hours, but I found the pain relief only lasted for an hour or two. This morning I was really dizzy and started dry heaving. I had waves of heat come through my body, and I almost fainted. I'm not sure if it was the T3's, but when you look up symptoms, a lot of sites say dizziness and stomach upset are common. Totall pain relief is definitely addictive. I use T3 for constant neck spasms and arthritis so my pain fades into the background. Too much relief and you forget to be cautious, and risk overdoing it. I use my T3 with Soma and some type of carbohydrate to activate it. My muscles relax and I can get through the spasming. Write down how much you take in case your thinking gets foggy; don't overdose with acetaminophen! To judge my "addiction", I make sure I'm active and going to the gym a minimum of 3 days a week. It can make you sleepy, so keep the dose as low as you can during the day, and take your bigger dose after you are home for the evening. If you can't get off the couch to function, that's a good warning sign of taking too much. Watch your bowel movements. It relaxes all your muscles - including intestines, which can cause you to get constipated. I take aloe vera capsules and extra fiber to help.Read More Read Less

Take Tylenol 3 for chronic back pain. Was on Hydrocodone but since it was moved to Schedule 2 my doctor stopped prescribing. Tylenol 3 is no where close to Hydrocodone. It makes me very sleepy even with my Adderall.

Have arthritis in my neck on both sides which is pinching nerves. I get a little tired with this medication but am able to function through it. It works for about an hour or two for me. I also take a stool softener to help with the constipation. Doesn't totally relieve the pain but helps ease it. I am taking one pill every 3-4 hours during the day. As time goes on it seems to not help as much. Guess my body is building up a tolerance to it.

I developed severe stomach pain with bloating and went to the ER. After many tests the conclusion was I had a severe allergic reaction to the acetaminophen. This was not a drug I had taken before this week. I was given the drug for knee pain.

Easy to use but I need to take laxative with it. It makes me extremely constipated. Sometimes I think this adds to the back pain I'm trying to ease!

although it is very effective in relieving the pain, I would suggest not taking it during the day. I get ridiculously tired and honestly can not function. All I want to do is sleep. I take it at night to relieve the pain when it gets cold as well for a good night sleep.
