I am writing this review because before going on Kariva, I almost asked my doctor to switch me based on the reviews I read on this website and others. Well let me say, five months in and I am VERY happy with Kariva! I had some headaches, appetite changes, and mood swings the first couple of months. Since then, my acne has cleared up, I have not gained weight, my periods are shorter. My pharmacy f...

I don't use this medication for birth control, I use it for the price (which can't be beat). But I do not like it. I have increased cramp, moodiness, and longer, heavier periods. I would not recomend it to anyone. In fact I just finished this set of pills and did not order any more.

I have been taking Kariva for about 8 years. I went off of it for about 3 years to get pregnant- I had no problems getting pregnant after stopping this pill even after having been on it or another form of BC for 12 years before trying. (I ended up miscarrying all 4 pregnancies but nothing to do w/ BC). This is the best BC i have been on and i tried a couple different pills and the ortho evra patch. I didn't have weight gain but i do have an increase in acne and it did make my boobs bigger. BC does tend to decrease my sex drive a bit no matter what form i am on. My Husband noticed a difference from when i was off trying to get pregnant to when i was back on the pill. who knows maybe i was just eager to get pregnant before? I would recommend this BC. When I first started taking this birth control, my mood swings got out of proportion and I felt a little crazy. I also got a lot of nausea and dizziness at night after I'd take it. I also, like some have already said, would get a random brownish yellow spotting/discharge when not on my period. My acne cleared up amazingly, and my cramps disapeared fdr the most part which was great. But my periods were still heavy, and I have put on weight.

I have been taking this medicine several times now to help contol my mentrual cycle. I have tried to go on and off to become pregnant. As far as helping my cycle it works great. I have breast tenderness the first three months and reflux and indiegestion for the first three months also. Sometimes it is unbearable. Hang in there cause it does go away and the medicine has worked well for me. I can time my periods and plan vacation around them right to the exact day.

I have been taking Kariva for over a week now and I love it! I have tried several BC's. When I first took Yaz I was okay but when I tried to start taking it again I had flu like syptoms and would throw up. Same goes for other BC's I tried. My friend recommended Kariva so my doctor agreed. I have not had 1 headache, not emotional and I dont feel sick :)

I had trouble taking this pills in the first three months; I became so emotional and sensitive. My breasts were tender and sore but after three months, it works great. I dont have any serious side effects, I even still have my libido. (as I was told, some girls lose them with the pills). my period gets lighter and shorter, which I love it.

I have been on Kariva for almost 4 years now, and I still love it. I only had side effects for the first month: breast tenderness and gas. Since then, I haven't had any problems. My periods are so short (three and a half days) and my skin has always looked great, even under stress. I started this because it was inexpensive, and I didn't have insurance at the time, but it has been a great choice for me.

I've been on Kariva for a year now and I have experienced headaches almost daily, have entirely lost the ability to orgasm, am very moody, it hasn't helped my acne like I was told it would, my chest has outgrown everything I own, and I cramp worse than I did before taking birth control. It has prevented pregnancy and made my periods shorter and lighter. Overall, this was not the drug for me so I've switched to ortho tri-cyclen to at least try fixing the sexual side effects.

I am 3 weeks in my first pack of Kariva. I take it at night before bed because it makes me nauseated. Every night, about an hour or so after taking the pill I get very nauseated and have chills and cramping. I also have been having severe dizziness since starting this pill. I have been very emotional about just anything, it's crazy. My doc says to stick with it a few months and let my body adjust to it... I'll try, but I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Was prescribed this medicine after being diagnosed with ovarian cysts at age 18. Have tried different birth control medicines to control the cysts and this one works great and is inexpensive.

I was taking ortho tricyclen-lo which was great for me, but switched due to insurance plans and coverage. My GYN suggested this and so far, it's fine. my acne is managed as it was on the tricyclen and there has been no weight gain or loss (on either med). my periods are shorter on this pill (4 days tops, 2 heavier days) and it had thus far kept me from conceiving. all in all, a acceptable switch. no migraines or other side effects, have spotted a few times between a period but no big deal.

I've been on Kariva for about 8 years & Mircette about 8 years prior to that due to menstrual migraines that increased with age. The first 3 years, I had no side effects whatsoever and migraines were gone. Periods were very light and regular. Since then, migraines started to come back so gyn put me on 2 low-dose estrogen pills for the placebo days & that's kept them to mild menstrual headaches lasting about 2 days and I've barely had a period in 4 years.

This is my second form of birth control pill and I haven't expereinced any serious side effects. However, I'm a little concerned as my period comes during week 3 of the pack and continues for 2 weeks. My doctor keeps telling me give it time...but it's been 5 months. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Just turned 52 and am perimenopausal and the hot flashes were hitting hard, so my obgyn recommended I take Kariva. Am so fatigued and yes my period is basically the same but have only been on it one month. Have gained weight and my appetite is completely gone. I also have high blood pressure so I wonder if this drug is affecting my other drug. Do feel myself and am told to just keep taking it for at least 3 months. Do not really know if I can tolerate it for 3 months and have all this unexplained weight gain with no appetite.Read More Read Less

The first BC I took was Mircette and then my pharmacy switched me over to Kariva and I've been on it a couple years now. In general, I have really liked it. No cramping, weight gain, or loss of libido. I do get a significant mood swing crave sugary/fattening foods the week before my period, but I think that's pretty normal. Periods last 3-5 days, the first 2 heavy and then it lightens up.

Even with intense daily exercise and a very natural diet,I gained nearly 10 pounds on Kariva in less than 6 months. I underwent all these changes before i went on the pill specifically to NOT gain weight, and still gained! My acne got worse, i am bloated all the time, and at one point i was very crabby which was completely out of the ordinary for me! this pill really does not work for me, but it seems like it worked for other people!

My doctor prescribed this birth control because I was gettin severe headaches with my other one which I believe was Loestrin. I like this BC but I have experienced missed periods which freaked me out a little along with a little breast tenderness. Overall I have not had a headache in ages and havent gotten prego. I like it so far, I can deal with no period. :o)
