I have been on Omeprazole for 6 years. When symptoms of fatigue, serious leg pain, headaches, constant burping, gas and feeling like I had to throw up started happening, I went to my doctor of 27 years, explained what was happening and was met with silence. I have had to do research on my own; that's why I'm here. My latest blood work shows that for the first time in my life, I am Vit. D deficient...

I increased my dosage of Omeprazole from 20MG to 40MG a few years back. It's a very effective medication in terms of controlling GERD. However the issue I've been having with it is that it causes a noticeable degree of fatigue and it has lowered both my Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12 levels. I am currently taking supplements to increase my levels of those vitamins

This medicine has been a Godsend for me! It's allowed me to sleep through the night so much so that I sometimes "forget" I have GERD. Of course if I miss a dose, my body lets me know that night! I have not suffered the same side effects the other reviews have but then again the effects they noticed 7 out of 10 of my drugs should cause. The insurance company dropped it for awhile and made me buy OTC Prilosec, I'm SO glad they came to their senses! $5 a month is loads better than $27!

My doctor gave me a sample of protonix, which worked great! But alas my insurance wouldn'tcover it so they prescribed Omeprazerole. It has not helped my acid issue at all. And now I'm having severe stomach pains. I read the side effects today only to realize that constipation is one of them. I've stopped taking this medication cause I can't take much more pain. I want my protonix back!

I have arthritis, I suffer server dihorea, inflamation, pains, wind, well need I say more...due to an intake of many anti inflamatory pills, depression pills, and more. This has helped the problem but does cause opposite constipation of course, cant win EH! RECOMENDED.

omeprazole did nothing to relieve my upper duodinal acid reflux, in fact I would get nauseus with and hour of so after taking it. I am now back on Ranitidine/Zantac and sleeping with a smile, thank you.

I have been taking acid reducers/PPI's for about 20 years. This one works about as good as the others at 1/8 of the cost. I didn't know what the side effects were until checking this website, but mine have been minimal and hardly notice. From time to time when I over eat, eat something spicy or drink alcohol I will have acid come up into my mouth/nose while sleeping, so I'll take 2 a day (1 in the morning & 1 in the evening) for about a week, then I'm okay again.

I took Lansoprazole (in the UK) for almost 10 years without problem. It was replaced by Omeprazole I think on cost grounds and three months later I was in hospital suffering from severe depletion of blood electrolytes, especially Calcium and Magnesium requiring repeated infusions. It was eventually discovered that my system could no longer support any form of the PPI drug, including Lansoprazole. My electrolytes remain stable now that I take a different type of acid suppression. My Consultant was amazed at this unheard of reaction to a widely used medication and expected my case to be written up into the medical literature, but I don't think it has. I cannot imagine that I am unique and I wonder how many elderly patients not so mentally active and questioning as myself are succumbing to this adverse reaction.Read More Read Less

I take 40 mg twice a day and still spend half the night propped up and regurgitating. Can the dose be increased?

My doctor prescribed Prilosec ten years ago for my acid reflux and I never had a another problem as long as I took it every day. It was a wonder drug. I took it for about 5 years, Then insurance company would not cover it so they suggested Previcid and that work well for me also for the next four years and then the insurance would not cover that so Omeprazole was listed as a generic for it which I have been taking for about 10 to 11 months however lately I have been having a lot of abdomnal pain, burbing, and passing gas and a general constant sick stomach feeling. I think I just became lactose intolerant which I noticed several reviewer have noted. When I see the doctor again I hope I can be changed back to Prilosec or Previcid, the side effects of Omeprazole have been difficult.Read More Read Less

I was tried (by my doctor) on several other medications before being prescribed Omeprazole. This medication is by far the most effective for my condition.

I had Acid so bad went in to the hospital with chest pains and given a stress test. I find it more effective than Zantac. I have not had any weight gain, but I have changed my diet to help with acid production. The side effects are mild and worth not having anymore chest pain.

The medication worked for my heartburn/GERD; however, the side effects were BAD! During the 14 days I was on the meds, I had insomnia, vivid dreams, constipation, and temporary weight gain. I would not take this medication again!
