I have been on Omeprazole for 6 years. When symptoms of fatigue, serious leg pain, headaches, constant burping, gas and feeling like I had to throw up started happening, I went to my doctor of 27 years, explained what was happening and was met with silence. I have had to do research on my own; that's why I'm here. My latest blood work shows that for the first time in my life, I am Vit. D deficient...

I increased my dosage of Omeprazole from 20MG to 40MG a few years back. It's a very effective medication in terms of controlling GERD. However the issue I've been having with it is that it causes a noticeable degree of fatigue and it has lowered both my Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12 levels. I am currently taking supplements to increase my levels of those vitamins

Have been taking this drug (40mg) for 4 years now with little side effects until the last year. Vit D and B-12 level low and decrease in urination. Will talk to doctor about decreasing this medication. Also joint pain not sure if this drug is cause of joint pain. I don't suggest taking long term.

I have been on this drugs for many years but recently have been reading about the side effects. I have been tired for several years, low VitD and recently experienced anxiety and hard to catch my breath. All my labs are totally normal. I have moved to DGL, Apple Cider Vinegar and Orange Peel supplement. It only been a week but I feel much better.

My recommendation is to not take omeprazole without a clinical diagnosis of GERD by a GI specialist. I believe it caused dependency and made my heartburn worse overall. I think it also caused a magnesium defficiency. I had to slowly decrease my dose by pouring the little beads out of the capsules... My primary prescribed daily omeprazole when i complained of chestpain. I was on it for months. I read that omeprazole should only be taken for short periods although many are put on it for life. Once i began needing to sleep on a wedge every night because of worsening heartburn, I tried quitting cold turkey and got extreme symptoms after 2 days. I went to a GI specialist and my endoscopy showed no sign of GERD. Then I decided to decrease my dosage slowly over several months and finally felt free. I just take OTC ranitadine for heartburn or reflux as needed now and have no problems. Read More Read Less

I've been on generic omeprazole for 3 years. When I first started taking it I had no adverse symptoms. After about 3 months, I was tired all the time and my hair started falling out. My GI doctor insisted it wasn't omeprazole. I went to my family doctor and got tested...I'm severely anemic now. I've never had a problem with iron before. From the hematologist I'm seeing now, this medicine blocks some people's ability to process iron. Side effects of anemia are fatigue and hair loss. If you have these symptoms too, get your iron levels checked!Read More Read Less

I have been taking omeprazole 40mg for at least 15 years with no problem. This time I got my prescription from a different manufacturer and I have been sick for days with stomach problems. I will be getting a new prescription for the medication that I know works from a different manufacturer not this one. The manufacturer is Kremers UR.

I had horrible acid reflux for years and in 2006 I was started on Aciphex. The medication done wonders. Insurance forced me to switch to Omeprazole. Omeprazole does a great job, every once in a while I will need to take it twice in a day.

This med helped with ulcers from NSAIDs , however while it helped in one area it created another problem. Burning and frequent trips to the bathroom to urinate. The pain from this for me was severe. No longer taking this drug.

I switched from Aciphex to Omeprezole which seems to be a bit weaker but does the job. I need to take it twice a day to effectively stop my cough. I wish that I can cut it down to once a day. But it works.

I have GERD and Barrett's syndrome and I've been taking Nexium and now omeprazole for 15-20 years. Before that I took Tagamet. At first Nexium worked well but after a few years not so much. It helps but if I accidentally overeat at night (e.g., have dessert, fried foods) I have horrible reflux anyway. Now I understand it has serious indications for dementia as a side effect. So I guess I will switch to Prevacid.

I've been on this medication for at least 7 years, since having acid reflux/indigestion, and it works very well, for me. I take it in the morning at least 1/2 hr before I eat breakfast or just a small snack in the a.m., and the rest of my day is acid reflux free. And it doesn't have any negative interactions with other meds, so it is safe to use. It's better than the OTCs you buy at stores, or other prescribed meds, as far as I know. Although a prescription medication, it is an effective one. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this med for a month and a half..40mg.. Yes it does help with my reflux, stops it completely. I can eat whatever I want. I take 1 every morning before I go to work. my issue, the reason why im looking at reviews is, 2 weeks ago I started feeling nauseous, not throw up nauseous, diarrhea nauseous and yesterday it happened again.. I thought a student gave me a virus, twice. my problem is, if I dont take it, Im scared to eat anything because the reflux becomes unbearable and pepto bismol nor alka seltzer works for me.. nexium worked also but insurance doesnt cover it anymore.. sucks the big one. I thought maybe it was an interaction with my lunesta but after reading the reviews, im convinced its the generic brand..Read More Read Less

Ive been taken omeprazole once daily for almost 3 months due to NSAID induced gastritis. Stopped the nausea but does not seem to stop acid reflux, merely contain it. Either that or it is very slow on me. I also suffer side effects. Not from the beginning but now my muscles are sore more easily and just recently have experienced skin rashes! including some blisters. This is scary and I only imagined it was omeprazole after checking its side effects. Beware if you have to use this drug. I hope I can change to something else. good luckRead More Read Less

I have been on this medication for 15 years. It has solved the acid reflux but I have suffered with low energy, chest pain, rash and itchy skin. Dr had me take Photochemotherpy UVB therapy for 3 times a week for six months to try to get rid of itchy skin. I kept telling them I have been scratching for 10years which was embarrassing when going out to restaurants, gatherings because I couldn't stop itching my arms til they bleed. Finally found a doctor this week who told me to stop the medication after performing a gastroenterology. The stomach Read More Read Less
