I have been on Omeprazole for 6 years. When symptoms of fatigue, serious leg pain, headaches, constant burping, gas and feeling like I had to throw up started happening, I went to my doctor of 27 years, explained what was happening and was met with silence. I have had to do research on my own; that's why I'm here. My latest blood work shows that for the first time in my life, I am Vit. D deficient...
I increased my dosage of Omeprazole from 20MG to 40MG a few years back. It's a very effective medication in terms of controlling GERD. However the issue I've been having with it is that it causes a noticeable degree of fatigue and it has lowered both my Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12 levels. I am currently taking supplements to increase my levels of those vitamins

This drug has worked great for my heartburn. I have been on it for a couple of years. In the pass 3 months it seems I have been having diarrhea with stomach pains. I am on 40 mg of this drugs. Interested in knowing if anyone else has had this problem with this drug.

My rheumatologist prescribed Omeprazole when she started me on 1,000 msg of Naproxen/day. I think her feeling is that it would protect my stomach from the high dose of Naproxen (like RX Aleve). Since I didn't have any stomach problems before starting both, I can only guess it worked but she never told me about the weight gain associated with it. I took it for a year during which I gained close to 20 pounds. I didn't stop taking it because of that but the weight gain and other factors including the Omeprazole brought on a GERD "attack." I thought I was having a heart attack and actually went to the ER. They kept me overnight, diagnosed (formally) GERD and sent me to a gastronologist who has me on other types of meds to protect my stomach (and now esophagus). There are other ways to help with inflammation associated with RA so the high dose for a petite woman should not necessarily be the first line nor should Omeprazole be to counteract potential stomach issues. And I don't appreciate her not telling me about the weight gain side effect.Read More Read Less

I felt less stomach acid and could eat. Itook it for over a year with random vague symptoms. I was having chest pain and felt tired and not sleeping well. I started doing research and was taking with antidepressant. This was not recommended so I stopped the antidepressant. Then I felt a little better but still having a lot of fatigue. I also was having pain in my feet and legs. I don't recommend taking this with asthma. NOW I am feeling more normal. Not taking it anymore

After a year of worsening symptoms and MD insisting it was a benign medication, I finally stopped taking it. I was experiencing fatigue, muscle aches, dry eyes, blurry vision. Not enough research into this drug. Using carafate, working better but not great.

Had daily severe heartburn which frequently went into esophagus and into lungs. Was on fematodine (sp?) which did not work, took Tums frequently which gave me kidney stones. Doctor reluctantly switched to Omeprazole 20 mg. Have been taking for over 3 years. No trouble with heartburn. GIRD perhaps twice per year but much less acidic.

I had Gastric~ upper abdomen pain?~ and had to eat omeprazole 3 times a day,as prescribed by doctor. It doesn't have much effect on me and it tastes so bitter.I along had to eat famoditine and another medcine which in circle in shape, small and green in color ( it tastes sweet and nice for me). I only recovered FULLY from this after 4 days. After that I got diarrhea,so I think that it may be caused by the medication i took.

To treat stomach pain and gas, tried Zantec 150 and it was effective to treat pain but not so effective to prevent gas and pain. Dr started me on omeprazole 2x day for a month (80 mg total) and then 1x day for the next month taken before a meal. Worked best when taken around noon, before lunch, improving symptoms but not totally eliminating them

I am very concerned about taking this drug for long periods. I have taken it for about 10 years. I decided to stop when I developed osteoporosis. Now I can't find anything to relieve the pain I have, constant pain in my throat ( like a bubble that won't go away, and won't let me swallow without feeling like I will choke) I will continue to look for something natural to help me, maybe aloe vera juice? Anyone else have any idea's?

there's no mention that Prilosec helps reduce CSF, which could help with edema. This needs to be included, even as an off-label use.

Omeprazole works well on the symptoms, but be careful if you take it long term. I've been taking it for several years and am getting worried about side effects such as osteoporosis. Alos, doctors don't really know if omeprazole actually prevents esophageal cancer or if it is just effective on symptoms, so watch your diet.

I've been taking this for 11 years (20mg once a day) with no side effects and it eliminates my heartburn completely. If I miss just one dose it comes back with a vengeance.

I have been on this for 5 days and it did work but I'm bloated and gassy with stomach pains. I will go back to Zantac because I don't like the side effects. After reading a lot of these comments, I don't want to get any worse.
