MY OPINION WHICH APPLIES TO ME: This is a dangerous, very effective drug for my afib but I am afraid of it. Trial and error I found out that by CONTROLLING high blood pressure ELIMINATION of excessive dietary salt, added potassium and magnesium supplements, REDUCED my afib attacks by 90%. Also to be avoided are chronic infections such as bad teeth. I absolutely must monitor and control my blood pr...

Started on this drug the first of march, 2015. I was on 400 mil. one tab in the morning and evening. I was sleeping 14-16 hours a day. Begged the doc for something else, so he reduced it to one tab a day. Things are a little better. But it has so many side effects that are severe, I'm now looking for a new doctor. I would rather take my chance and have my normal life back.

I am a 83 year old female who was put on this medication August 25, 2014 after suffering congestive Heart failure, Ventricular tachycardia. I took 200mg each day. Recently had problem with blurred vision. As well as my hands going numb and cold. I had my eyes checked and the doc found that I had a serious problem in my left eye. Distorted vision, letters were blurred and I could not identify them. He took a test and found that the left eye was swollen which distorted my vision. There was nothing he could do at that time and another appointment was made to monitor the condition. I then researched the drug and found that this drug had serious side effects. Such as blurred vision, vision changes and causing hands (and feet) to go numb. I called my cardiologist and he has taken me off this drug. In addition I also had itching and red rash around my ankles. I am concerned having damaged my eye permanently, time will tell. Read More Read Less

I have been on Amiodarone since August 2014 and have significant hair loss, wear sweats in 70 degree weather because of coldness, but the cardiologist thought it was the best drug. It may be but its side effects are not good. Yesterday, after not taking the drug much the past three weeks, I was diagnosed with retina detachment and have no doubt it is directly a result of the amiodarone. I also have COPD and thyroid problems, had both for many years, and do not want them to worsen. Would not recommend this for anyone. Read More Read Less

My husband had bypass surgery 2013.He started taking amniodarone 100mg.once a day before discharge they said they're going to take off meds.but they added it to 200 mg.for 2 years now he started to have more diseases like chronic kidney disease, thyroid problems, and his lower extremities is having dark spots,I'm talking to his cardiologist about possible side effects but he just ignored me?we go to his primary and talk about it but he said he cannot discontinue this meds.because he is not the one who prescribe it.we ending up going to podiatry to check his foot and he ordered ultrasound of his foot.I tried to contact FDA to check-out about this medication.Side effects and comments from this website was so scary for me.i want to know if discontinuing this medication will be hepful for my husband situation.i'm planning to find another cardiologist.Read More Read Less

I've only been on this medicine for 2 weeks. I have experienced Severe nausea, so dizzy I fall over, horrible headaches, can't sleep at all at night, up for 24-48 hours straight sometimes, I don't feel like myself anymore, always tired constantly wanting to sleep, and have no energy. Im scared to go off this medicine bc I don't want to experience the effects from stopping the medicine but I'm scared to stay on this medicine.

Have re-occuring A/Fib. Tried Multaq with mixed results, then co=pay went to $400/month. switched to Amiodarone. Got good results better than Multaq. Co-pay $2.67/mo. Dr had blood, lung & chest w-ray after 3 months. All good except thyroid was low. Now taking synthroid and all is well.

I've suffered from irregular heart beats for 30 yrs now. I tried every medicine, 4 ablation procedures and several cardioversions. Nothing worked. Then had Ventricular Tachycardia event and trip in an ambulance to ER. I went on Amiodarone that same day. Took about 6 months to be arrhythmia free (200 mg/day). I have been arrhythmia free for 1.5 years now, I'm back on my bike (rode 62 miles, 3800 ft. of climbing yesterday) almost as strong as ten years ago. In any event, I consider this medicine to be the last chance before being on the wrong side of the grass. I am watching for the side effects carefully- I know this is a scary medicine, but has bought me some more good years. P.S. I have not gotten "blue smurf" syndrome, just use SPF50 lotion liberally :)Read More Read Less

Taking 100 mg (1/2 pill) daily. Restored normal heartbeat, and continues to do so. Better than the alternative!!!! No side effects I can identify.

1 week after amiodarone was administered to me I had panic attacks that took my life away from me. I soon became labled COPD because I couldn't breath. I gained 25 + pounds. After 2 years I took my self off of it and told the dr. I would not take it again. The side effects are horrible. I don't recommend it to anyone.
