The only reason I gave this med a low ease of use score is the slow dosage build up. It takes a long time to reach the theraputic dose. I did so well on this med -- no side effects and felt so normal. After about 6 great months, I started thinking that I was just so ok ... and that the bi-polar stuff was all in my mind and a missdiagnosis by the doctor. I quite taking it ... was great for a ...

I went to physician for meds for overthinking. He prescribed pregabalin nortryptiline. After taking that medicine I was completely numb, agitated, irritated, not in my senses, impaired concentration, my condition got worse.I went to psychiatrist he put me on lamez100.After 4 months agitation stopped but depression is getting worse. Overall my experience of psychiatric treatment is worst. I was better before taking pregabalin nortriptyline now i am left worst. I regret taking that medicine though lamez is keeping me in control I am dissatisfied.Read More Read Less

Been on 100 mg for over 2 yrs, as a mood stabilizer. And it's stable, but in a low state. I cannot be truly happy. I'm not spiraling downwards into my major depression ( for the most part) but when a good moment happens, like seeing golden hr or my son try something new, I'm just not fully happy about it. They put me on this after I was admitted into the psych ward for an attempt. Now I really don't know what it's doing for me. At least with my highs and lows, the highs would give me confidence and energy. Now I'm just down. Constantly. And can never really feel genuine joy. Read More Read Less

I really don't have much to say but I have noticed some people that have left a review have been talking about their dose that they start out on. I have been taking this for awhile now and was monitered in the begining for rashes. The Dr. should start you out on a really low dose of 25mg and slowly increase it. They should watch for rashes and other side effects because they can be life threatening. I was fine but some people are not. Some people I have read on here have been started out on 100mg or more and was increased fast. Be aware! Not every Dr. is like this though. Mine wasn't.Read More Read Less

I was just recently diagnosed with bipolar 2 (with rapid cycling) and it turns out my previous SSRI antidepressants were making my hypomanic episodes come on more frequently. My psychiatrist put me on lamotrigine as an inital test just to see how I respond. Almost immediately, I slipped into hypomania (pretty sure it wasn't the medication, just because it had been only a few days on 25mg)...took me a while for my brain, body, and wallet to recover. Ever since that incident, I have felt relatively 'meh' and no negative side effects whatsoever. The only thing I have really noticed, though, is a major change in appetite. I work in a pharmacy, so my boss was able to teach me a lot of things about lamotrigine. He told me that weight gain is a possible side effect, but I have had no appetite for weeks. I also have struggled with disordered eating, so the lack of appetite is only fueling that other issue I have. As this is the first medication I'm taking to treat my bipolar disorder, I am not expecting it to necessarily be 'the one' right off the bat. I might need to try something else after I try out the proper therapeutic dose my psychiatrist would like to put me on, but I don't think the medication is awful by any means.Read More Read Less

I am 29 years old and was diagnosed with bipolar || last year. 4 stars for titration as it was difficult at first, I experienced complications with my speech such as stuttering, mispronunciation of words and poor word recall. My memory deteriorated and I could not remember things seconds after learning or hearing about something. After months of being on this medication my word recall and speech difficulties are gone and my memory is much better, however, I am not as sharp as I was pre drug. This all cleared up a month or so after my dosage goal (100mg at night) was reached. If you stick with the medication until your therapeutic dosage is reached you will find out if it works for you. After titration I have not experienced any hypo manic episodes even though the drug does not treat these and my depressive episodes are much further apart than usual which makes a world of difference. I function very well and have been able to work consistently and do all activities of daily living without feeling overwhelmed. I feel much more stable and happy. At the moment I am having a depressive episode which has lasted a month and I have been unable to work or function as productively as I usually do. I am reaching out to my psychiatrist to seek advice and potentially increase my dosage. Give this medication a go as it can change your life if you are compatible with it. If you have any issues like me at the moment, seek support. Read More Read Less

I tried keppra but did not work for me. Now I have started lamictal, and let me tell you, my focal seizure is completely in control. I have started this medicine without doctor prescription from 25mg for 20 days, then 50mg for 10 days and then 100mg at night once a day and my seizure is in control. Then I went to doctor and I told him, he says take it twice a day, now taking 100mg at morning and 100mg at night, little expensive but no seizure. Note: It will start working after 20 days or more, you may still have seizure. Sorry for bad englishRead More Read Less

I do not have Bipolar disorder, but this stuff gave me bipolar disorder, along with blocking my ability to make long term memories. I was put on this after first being diagnosed with epilepsy, and was on it for about 5 years from 2012 - 2017. Now that I'm off of it, and have several years away from it, I truly realize how damaging it was to me. I developed panic attacks, started questioning everything in my life, became supremely depressed and gained almost 30lbs. The years I was on this drug, were the worst years of my life. I eventually became immune to the drug and started having break through partial seizures. I didn't pass out but I couldn't understand what anyone was saying. It sounded like everyone was speaking Latin. Usually would last only a few seconds, but one day it dragged on for over an hour. It was extremely scary. Finally at the recommendation of my therapist, I talked to my neurologist and stopped taking it, and transitioned over to Keppra. And Holy Hell was there a difference. Depression and panic attacks went away and I finally felt like myself again. I always prided myself on how well I remembered things prior to Lamotrigene. And there are MONTHS that I don't remember in the years I was on that. I work as a designer, and discovered files on my computer I have absolutely no memory of creating, emails I don't remember writing, to a disturbing level. This stuff fully effected my brain in a BAD way. Ask for other epilepsy meds if they try and give you this. Read More Read Less

This drug is AWFUL. I know it works for some and that’s great, but for me it was horrendous. I was having a bout of situational anxiety/depression after a move. I had a perfect storm of stressors and it got a little overwhelming. No history of depression, anxiety, or mental health issues in the past, this was an acute situation. Anyway, I had tried lexapro and developed mild SI as a side effect. My NP added lamotrigine as an add on as many of her patients have had success. I ended stopping the lexapro and we switched to Zoloft which made me very irritable and angry, still while on the lamotrigine. We decided to try the lamotrigine by itself just to see. 25mg x 2wks was okay, same with the 50mg x 2wks. I reached 100mg and it all hell broke loose. I had extreme anxiety and panic attacks, severe SI, uncontrollable excessive crying literally out of nowhere sometimes all day, depersonalization, increased depression, severe itching, headaches, and OCD. I knew it was a result of the medication because I have never in my life had these issues before. After doing research (and I know how to do research as I have a masters in nursing) I found that others experienced these side effects as well which was actually a relief because once they titrated off the medication the side effects resolved. I was only on it for 5 WEEKS and I am currently titrating off of it. Just be aware that if these things start happening IT’S NOT YOU IT’S THE MEDICATION!!! Advocate for yourself. You know your body better than anyone and if it doesn’t feel right then it probably isn’t. Read More Read Less

Definitely works for me. I accidently did an experiment on myself by not taking it (I kept forgetting and just gave up for a while because I thought I was ok). During this time I slowly unraveled but while I was taking it I was taking care of myself and daily duties better than I had in years. Side effects could possibly be insomnia and irritability( had issues before so can't say for sure.)

Very sad underneath, giddy on top for years; running on 85 volts vs. 120 for normal people. This has worked miracles for me!! I feel great every day and look forward to enjoying life for the first time ever. I'm only on 100mg; just right for me: NO side effects!! If you're tired of lithium and antidepressants, ask your doctor for this, and if it works, you'll be amazed! AR

I heard good things about this medication. So I decided to try. 1st week I had alot of energy but couldn't sleep well. Then I started to get very drowsy days later. Decided to take at night. Started that but the drowsiness carries into the next day and adds a bit of depression and some confusion. Will be getting off this medication and it's only been a couple weeks with side effects.

I have BPD, and this is the first time I think I feel what it is like to be a normal person. I have been taking it for less than six months but the change in me is substantial and the people around me have commented on what a positive change I have had. I highly recommend this medication. Also, if it does not work for you, the withdrawal effects are extremely minimal and quick to fade (as I have been told).

In general I feel my mood has stabilised somewhat and there aren't so many mood swings, which were happening every two or three days. My personality is also more consistent and I'm beginning to feel like my old self - before depression and anxiety made my life a living hell. I think in conjunction with the antidepressant I take - venlafaxine - I feel my lows are slightly more manageable and life is starting to have more meaning and purpose

I'm bipolar 1, rapid cycling, on this for a few years now along with bupropion for the depression (Oxcarbazepine for the mania works great). It's not 100% effective by itself but it seems to keep me from getting too deep when the depression rears its ugly head again and I can recover faster. If I stop taking it I can definitely tell the difference. I'd give it more stars if I didn't need the bupropion but I'm pretty satisfied with it anyway. I'm sure it's a big part of actually being able to manage the depression pretty well. Mania is my main problem anyway. It may be contributing to my short term memory problems though but I'm not certain of that.Read More Read Less

I've been taking medications since I was 11, and this is the only medication I've ever liked (and worked for me). I never got any side effects (thankfully) and I've been at the same dosage for the past few months. My mother also takes the same medication and we've both concluded it is a miracle drug that has made it that we could function normally. Though the only downside is that you create an undeniable reliance on the drug. Sometimes I don't get a refill on time and I'd go without the drug for 3 days and I cannot function by any means - my whole world shattered when I was enduring the worst withdrawals of my life. It is the same thing for my mother. While the drug has really stabilized us and made our lives significantly easier, if we miss only a handful of doses everything falls apart. Overall, I do love this medication and it has truly worked for me. Though, be wary that you may develope an extreme dependence. Read More Read Less
