Took this for MRSA infection on my skin, prescribed my my derm. Discovered that some of my acne cleared up (on my back) and so did the folliculitis on my legs (I have a lot of skin problems). Turns out all were being caused by various forms of staph, and the Bactrim is treating them all. My derm has allowed me to stay on it long-term for the acne/folliculitis.

I took this Bactrim after being told I had an UTI. About three days after I started this medicine I noticed that I was developing hot flashes. I didn't think much about it until I got home from work later that day and my mother commented on have red my face and neck looked. I went into the bathroom and started to undress….My whole body was cover in a "bright red" rash. We called our local er and they said for me to take a cool shower, and lay down. This didn't work, my hot flashed were getting worst and I began to develop a temp. of 104*, I slowly went in and out of conciseness, and became slightly unaware of my surroundings. After being rushed to the ER, I was pumped full of iv liquids and watched closely. I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS MEDICATION TO ANYONE, IT ALMOST TOOK MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication for the second time for a UTI. I began taking it, not expecting any reactions because it worked wonders the first time. By the end of the second day I had developed constant leg and arm cramps. I was miserable at a concert at the HOB and couldn't move without pain. By the time I got home my feet were itching and it felt like pins and needles were pricking them. Could barely sleep, and the symptoms were worsening so that Saturday night I could not sleep at all because of the itching all over my body (mostly on my palms and the bottom of my feet). I stopped taking the medicine on Sunday and took a Benadryl that night. Instant relief. I must first say the medication worked wonderfully the first time I took it. Just be cautious for a reaction because I have heard this is a strong prescription. This is the first time I have EVER had a bad reaction to ANY medicine. But in the 3 days I took it, it relieved my symptoms of the UTI. I would recommend it, but with caution. Read More Read Less

I was given Bactrim as my second antibiotic having no improvement with the first one. After a few days on Bactrim I had an allergic reaction with swelling in my face, lips, throat, blister's on my tongue and inside my mouth, which my doctor had me stop taking the medication. I know that Bactrim is a good medication for many different infections, and not all people can tolerate this medication.

Was put in the hospital with a suspected bacterial infection, received 1 1/2 days of IV Bactrim & 7 days supply when I checked out. Have had some lower back pain, loose stools & small headaches, but it is nothing compared to what put me in the hospital in the first place (vomiting, bloody stools, temperature of 95 and dehydration). This drug works pretty well, would suggest drinking a glass of milk before taking it, helps calm the stomach.

I was given Bactrim for a UTI and ended up in the hospital with meningitis. No one realized it was from the Bactrim so when I got another UTI, I was again given it. Within a day of starting it I was back in the hospital with meningitis. I realized I was on Bactrim both times so I told the Dr and sure enough, meningitis is a side effect.

my son was on this med for acne. after a month it caused sleeplessness, hallucinations and depression. If I hadn't talked to parmachist and found out info on my own he could have ended up in a psych ward. Be very careful of long term use.

My 8 year old daughter was given this medication for strep throat from an urgent care facility!? After seeing her primary doctor we were told this medication is not used to treat Strep throat, needless to say she was still infected after 10 days of use. Why would a doctor prescribe this medication if it's not commonly used to treat Strep?

It's been almost 2 years since my daughter was prescribed this poison. It left her with permanant damage to her lungs, peripheral nerves, chronic fatigue and diarrhea. She was perfectly healthy before using this horrible drug.

I was given an oral dose of bactrim (800/160) for twice a day for 7 days in addition to a 6 day dose of medrol(steroid) to attempt to clear up sinuses and clogged ears. After 5 days the bactrim did nothing to help sinuses or ears . I had problems with severe nausea, excessive gas, ringing in the ears, and diahrea. The med was stopped after 5 days. From some of the reviews of bactrim, I see it helps some people. Unfortunately it did not help me. My Ear/Nose/Throat doctor now wants to do a CT scan of the sinuses. Read More Read Less

it was horrible, I went to the doctor with the very beginnings of a urinary tract infection, got prescribed this drug, and spent the most miserable night I can remember, I hurt all overas if someone had beat me up, I felt like some toxic substance was running thru my veins, I became weak, broke out it hives all over my body, but the hives were worst on my legs, my joints hurt as if I had fallen or slipped on ice, I would not recomend this drug, I have had urinary tract infections before and they can be very miserable and uncomfortable, however this drug was much worse than any infection I have ever had. I have never had a reaction to any drugs before until I took this one, only took three pills, and new I had to stop, I am having other side effects like blood in my mucus, frankly I am a bit affraid to take any more medication for my urinary tract infection, as I am in fear of the side effects being much more painful than the actual condition. these are miserable, scary, conditions, and all from something that is supposed to help me....dont take it, ask for a different drug........it is not worth any of the side effects I can assure you. I was given this drug as treatment for a nasty infection on my index finger (possibly MRSA). It worked quickly and effectively. However, on day 9 I developed a skin rash, starting with my ears, scalp, back then entire torso. Luckily only the back area itched. I am puzzled as I have taken sulfa drugs over the years with no problem. I am also disappointed to no longer have them in my arsenal of treatments.
