Had a severe allergic reaction, which resulted in going to ER. Red eyes, headache, chills, muscles tensed up, pain in right side of chest, throat felt funny.

This medicine increased the amount of times I urinated. After the first day's dose (2 - one twice a day), I ended up getting up to use the bathroom no less than ten times after going to bed for the night (and had not drank a lot of any liquids). I felt like I was in my third trimester of pregnancy again! And after reviewing the side effects again, I saw that change in the amount of urine was listed as one of the serious, but unlikely side effects, which was enough for me to stop taking it altogether.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication for a sinus infection after Biaxin didn't work. On the 3rd day of using it, I felt like I had the flu; nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhea, general weakness and fatigue. My "flu-like" symptoms continued the entire week to the point where I had to cancel all my plans and couldn't leave the house. My sinus infection cleared up, but I felt horrible for 7 days. I won't take it again.

After two days of Bactrim I developed skin rash and swelling - doctor advised to stop immediately

I was prescribed to me by an ER doctor for a kidney infection. I was soppose to take it for 14 days, my Dr had me discontinue this after only 6 days on it when i went to see her because It made me soooo sick, Feeling like I was spinning, shortness of breath, upset stomach, flushing, overheating, sweating, headache, nervousness, neck pain, general feeling of being just plain ill.I was told I was having an allergic reaction to it. In 2008 or 2009 I took Bactrim and on the ninth day I lost my sence of taste and smell compleatly.My taste came back after three days but hardley any smell at all, Now I am having cemical smells when I am some oders but that is all I can smell.

Same experience as many who have reviewed. Rash, flu symptoms, aching bones - horrible drug!! Would never take this again. My husband had the same experience on this medication.

I took this drug for 2 days. I stopped immediately when I started getting a headache, dizzy, and stomach aches. It didn't even remotely help my skin infection, probably because I couldn't take it for more than 2 days. Really horrible side effects. I do not recommend this drug at all.

I took 1 pill and my face turned purple AND my throat swelled up.I had to be rushed to the ER FOR OXYGEN , NEVER AGAIN!

As soon as I took the !st pill my pain was gone!

At 28, I was prescribed Bactrim for severe acne. For the first 2 weeks I took 1 pill twice a day, morning & night. Since age 13 I have tried every RX, both oral & topical, for acne & nothing has worked. Some I even tried multiple times at different points in my life. When I started taking Bactrim I was skeptical that it would work. It actually did start clearing my skin immediately. With the clear skin came extreme fatigue & muscle/joint pain. In my desperate pursuit for clear skin I continued taking the Bactrim. I was thrilled with the results & managed to put up with the fatigue & pain until week 2 when I started experiencing severe nausea & migraines. This was something I could not live with as I was completely debilitated. I called my Dermatologist & was told to cut my Bactrim pills in half. This stopped the nausea and migraines. I continued to ignore the ongoing fatigue and muscle/joint pain. The RX continued clearing my skin until about month 3. At this point my acne started coming back. It would come back full force for a good few days and suddenly clear back up for another few days. This was an ongoing pattern through month 4 on the Bactrim. At the same time my fatigue and muscle/joint pain gradually worsened until I found myself in tears one day realizing that I felt as if I was dying. I was on the verge of depression due to my life feeling as if it was crumbling. I am a stay at home mom and felt as if I couldn’t adequately care for my beautiful 21 month old daughter in the state my body was in. I suddenly realized I felt terrible because of the Bactrim. "What am I doing to myself,” I asked out loud. My Dr denied that the Bactrim was responsible, but I know it was. LISTEN TO YOUR OWN BODY! It’s your body; you know it better than anyone. I know the Bactrim was destroying me. In the end clear skin is not worth ruining your body and life for. If you choose to take Bactrim please monitor yourself carefully. I was prescribed this medication for an ear infection that was re-occuring. It did finally get rid of the infection after I tried four other antibiotics, BUT the side effects were horrible! I felt AWFUL! I was tired, fatigued, in a BAD MOOD the entire two weeks that I was on this. My boyfriend was like WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HAPPY GIRL I USED TO KNOW? I finally started feeling like myself when I got off of it. I hate this medicine, but I guess it was worth to endure to finally kill the infection. I will ask the doctor for something else if the infection comes back again. I do not want to take this again. I was a super-bitch. I just wanted to crawl into a hole and sleep all day. This medication started out by giving me flu like symptoms, followed by blood in the urine on day 5. The medication was stopped on day 5 and the side effects continued with swollen, stiff neck and all over muscle pain on day 6. When that subsided, I got a rash all over my body on day 7. They seem to prescribe this because it is cheap ($3.49 for 20 generic pills) Clearly you get what you pay for

I was prescribed Bactrim DS for an infection by a dermatologist. On the 8th day, I developed a rash on my face and felt like I was coming down with the flu. I noticed this before bed and was going to call the offoce in the morning. I woke up at 3 am with hematomas in my mouth. I went to the er and while there I developed petechiae all over my body. I was admitted to the hospital because my platelets were down to 2000 which means I could have had spontaneous hemmorhaging in the brain. In hospital for 5 days to get my platelets to higher levels through transfusions of an expensive substance to fix my immune system. Then on steroids to keep them up. ONE HOUR AFTER TAKING THE MEDICATION, I BROKE OUT IN CHILLS AND FEVER, AND RED EYES, STAYED IN BED FOR 3 DAYS TO RECUPERATE AND STILL HAVE NOT COMPLETELY RECOVERED.

After taking the 1st dose with food and lots of water, I was nauseated. Tried to lay down but felt extremely hyper. Lost my appetite so I ate very little and now feel weak. Tried drinking a lot of water which made me pee a lot and I credit that for clearing up the UTI. Took the 2nd dose 12 hours later at 11pm, went to bed and woke up an hour later extremely awake and horrible noisy gassiness in my stomach and intestines. Finally fell asleep after 3 hours of listening to my guts howl. The next morning I felt ok, no UTI symptoms anymore but my stomach was still making loud gassy noises like it does when I have to run to the bathroom (I have IBS.) Bactrim ALMOST KILLED ME! I was BLEEDING THROUGH MY SKIN, OUT OF MY EYES, NOSE, MOUTH AND EVERY OTHER ORIFICE! It caused my body to attack itself! My immune system attacked the platelets in my blood. The condition is called thrombocytopenia and there is NO CURE for this PERMANENT AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER! It never helped with my infection either! I wish I could sue!

I have a strong tolerance for most medicine, but this drug made me so sick. I truly thought I would have to go to the ER. I only took two of the pills in one day (10 hours apart) and my system was so messed up. Terrible stomach cramps and pains. Had to spend the day laying down. Symptoms went on for a good two days. I think this drug should be illegal. Don't take it!!
