At the onset of a headache is the best time to use this medicine. It may take 1/2 to 1 hour for effectiveness. The worst side effect I have is body aches, especially in the lower extremities. Tenderness of skin on the thighs, and pain in the bottoms of my feet are typical complaints. Although my migraine have lessened with treatment to prevent headaches with amitriptyline and propranolol used o...

This product alone did not help my migrane headaches. I finally found relief with this AND 3 ibuprofen tablets. I'm not sure if it was the combination or the ibuprofen alone that worked.

I suffered from classic migraine since I was 12. I tried all of the medications offered through the years with only some relief. In 1997 my doctor prescribed Zomig for me, and I found the magic bullet. It is the only thing that will kill a migraine in the process of happening and, for me, no lingering after affects. I still get a little of the "disorientation" you get the day after, but at least I can function with no pain. Everybody needs to use what works for them. But Zomig has always worked for me, better than anything else.Read More Read Less

I've taken Zomig for 20 years now - I have, on average, 21 migraine days a month. I've tried so many meds, including alternative meds, but to no avail. Zomig is the ONLY med that works really well for me with no side effects. My Doctor is only prepared to give me 12 tablets per month because, in the UK, Zomig is not licenced to be used daily. It is thought that overuse of this med causes medication overuse headaches, but I've proved it doesn't by coming off Zomig for 1 month (it was hell to go without), - my headaches did not become less, which would have happened if it had been MOH. In the US, Doctors have prescribed daily use for those patients who do not respond to anything else and have found no side effects in healthy adults. PLEASE AstraZeneca carry out trials and get this licenced for daily use!! My anxiety levels frequently hit high because I'm afraid of running out of Zomig and having nothing else to fall back on and when my migraines start, they wont stop - 8 days is my current record and then I had to visit a clinic and have an injection!Read More Read Less

I started on this in October 2013 and would take it when I would get my monthly migraine. It worked at first, but it always made me feel nauseous with no appetite for about 8 hours, made it difficult to touch warm water, made my glands by my jaw hurt and gave me constant rebound headaches. I stopped in April 2014 and feel so much better! I'm currently on another migraine pill. This pill just didn't work for me.

I have had migraines since 1975 and Zomig is the first and only medication used that gives me relief. I have had NO negative side-effects. My doctor had prescribed one a day, as I usually ended up getting one every day. Now, after 10-plus years, another doctor comes along and says no one can take that many. I have never had an adverse reaction to it, ever. Finally she took it away from me altogether. For two months, I walked around sick...OTC drugs did nothing. Finally, she allowed me to have it again and I cut a 5 mg. into fourths. Within 15 minutes, I felt like a veil had lifted and I was focused again with no headache. I don't know what's in this med, but for me it is literally a godsend! Thank you, Astra-Zeneca!Read More Read Less

I took Imitrex prior to taking Zomig. It never worked like the Zomig does. I have taken it since it first came on the market. I have been prescribed 30/mo. for probably 15 years...until recently. Now, for some reason, someone has decided nine tablets are sufficient. As stated by other reviewers, I have not found anything that works like Zomig...almost immediate relief. I have been cutting the pills into fourths, doing everything I can to save them. My "doctor" has taken me off of them completely! Why? I don't know. I have had a dull and, sometimes sick, headache since that time. Why, when it obviously is safe for me, and works, would they take it away? I'm beside myself and furious! Makes no sense at all.Read More Read Less

As recommended by my neurologist, I recently tried Zomig (nasal spray) for the first time instead of Migranal or Maxalt to treat a migraine. What I noticed different was that my migraine actually got worse before I had any relief of pain. By the end of the 1st hour, I finally started to feel relief but needed to take additional measures to deal with the effects of the migraine (dark room, limited sounds, alternate ice/heat on back of neck, try not to lift head or move suddenly/strain). The day after using Zomig Bad part of next day: I noticed additional pain and stiffness in my joints, especially in my hands. I have fibromyalgia so I think the Zomig may have contributed to my daily pain. Good part of next day: no residual headache or rebound migraine and able to fully concentrate at work. With Migranal or Maxalt, they usually work almost instantly but I always have a residual headache. :-) Read More Read Less

This treatment has been very effective for my son's migraines. It almost instantly gives him relief for his migraine headaches. Sometimes the side affects include, some minor aches here and there, and constant sneezing. Other than that it seems OK!

I have suffered migraine headaches since '84. I am on a regiment of preventive RX's but when a migraine strikes & OTC medication does not work, ZOMIG is the only thing that I have found effective to get rid of the pain. I have not experienced negative side effects, only relief. Usually a 2.5 dosage will take care of the headache, sometimes I have had to take one more dosage. Migraines are so debilitating, but with ZOMIG I have usually been able to take a tablet & continue whatever I am doing. I could be a spokesperson for this drug, I believe in it so much. If I did not have access to ZOMIG, I would have had many more trips to Urgent Care or the Emergency room because nothing else worked for me. Thank you ZOMIG!!Read More Read Less

After being diagnosed, I was first given Imetrex with bad side effects. We decided to try Zomig. I worked wonders. I usually take one 5mg tablet (doesn't matter when during migraine) and it's usually gone in an hour. Makes me tired, sometimes maked migraine worse before better, but then completely gone. I now have a migraine for over 2 weeks now, Zomig has been ineffective, as well as 3 trips to the ER for IV therapy. Going to try another drug just to rid myself of this.

I started getting migraines in my teens and twenties which I thought might be menstrual related though I wasn't sure. I took Excedrin which took the edge off because of the caffeine, but never got rid of the pain. Oddly, I didn't have another migraine once I had children. My 30's and most of my 40's were migraine free. Then they reappeared and I think now they are triggered by red wine. They are always exactly 3 days in length. Almost to the hour! I get an aura which is great because it lets me know one is coming. Zomig works within 30-60 minutes. Makes me sleepy so I don't drive but wait til I get home and can lie down before taking it. Always fall asleep. The only side effect I've ever felt is a freezing cold nose, but I attributed this to the fact that migraines are vascular headaches, and the Zomig constricts your blood vessels (unlike regular headaches which are already constricting, migraines allow TOO MUCH blood thru vessels. I actually had a chiropractor tell me that drinking tons of caffeine and smoking cigs would help constrict the vessels. I even tried that one desperate day...but it made me throw up!) I agree with the reviewer who wishes the pills were scored. I just bite off what I think I'll need, but it would be easier to be able to pre-cut them. Nobody who doesn't get them understands how painful they are. Mine are always behind one eye. You just want to put your head in a vise and squeeze it (sometimes I ask my husband to put pressure on my head which helps a little). I've never known greater pain...not even childbirth! And its made worse by the fact that you can't distract yourself from the pain with tv or reading or ANYTHING, because your brain won't work. If you haven't tried Zomig, try it. I hope its gone generic because its very expensive.Read More Read Less

I have been using the 5mg Nasal Zomig for the past couple years. Prior to that I too had many trips to the hospital ER, and sometimes with no results. Their "cocktail" as they called it (up to 4 different drug" to combat the headache, usually only added to my suffering as it induced vomiting. Zomig has been a miracle for me. It usually combats the migraine within an hour to 3 depending on how soon I take it when the headache sets in. I use to try to hold out and wait to take it hoping that my headache would subside on its own. I waited mainly because of the side effects I would end up with from it. Mainly I end up with severe muscle/joint aches all over my body. I feel like someone took a baseball bat to me...and hurt for at least a day. I too also have pain/ache in my nose area. I had surgery years ago on a deviated septum and thought that perhaps the medicine may effect areas where you had surgery or cuts or damage possibly. But all in all, I bear with it, because as much as I hate the side effects, it has to date been the only thing I have found to rid me of the headaches. I also take Magnesium daily and have found that my occurance of having migraines have been reduced since I started on using the Magnesium. Read More Read Less

I am 53 and have migraines since my mid teens. As migraines go, most of my life they were on the 9-10 pain range. Now that I'm older and in the peri-menopause/entering menopause phase, if there was a higher pain scale range, I would make them at LEAST a 15! For the most part, thank goodness for my Zomig. I take 5MG tablets. I'm fortunate enough to receive almost the max with my insurance of 18 tablets per month (which I DO need). As all of you poor souls know, these tablets for the most part are like gold. I've been taking Zomig for about 4 years now mostly without side effects back then. Now, with my growing peri-menopause/menopause symptoms, and fluctuating hormonal issues, my migraines are really in a tailspin and taking my Zomig leaves me extremely fatigued; almost totally exhausted (I'm going to see an endocrinologist soon as my Primary and Gyn doctors can't seem to find out why I'm SO exhausted and my blood work comes back good/normal (thank God, of course) I don't have diabetes however. Also, the Zomig sometimes make me a bit confused and irritable, but I have to say, I believe this is also duw to my current state of crazy hormonal imbalances. All this going on (which is totally normal given my age), plus my unfortunate "gene" for migraine kick in and are making me miserable. I hear sometimes after (post) menopause, migraines can lessen or even disappear, sometimes worsen. Heaven forbid; given my many, many decades of suffering. Hopefully I will be spared. I feel for all that are plagued by this terrible disease, bless you all.Read More Read Less

I think Zomig is a life-saver!!! I do get migraines monthly (started when I got pregnant for my first child at 28). The only side-effect I don't like is I seem to get skin sensitivity. By this I mean my skin actually hurts if someone touches me too hard. The tip of my nose gets very sore too. I haven't read anyone else getting this symptom. Other than that, if I take the medication at the on-set of a migraine it is generally 15-45 minutes before it is gone and I can function again. I highly recommend it if you can take it and your insurance will pay for it. Otherwise it costs me $60 per pill. Outrageous!!!!Read More Read Less

Suffered with migraine for over 30 years - used to try all sorts of pain-killing treatments with little relief. A friend gave me a Zomig one day... Miracle cure. Side effects - throat tightness/sensitivity, meaning hot drinks need to be cooled a little longer. Maybe make me a little drowsy? Certainly help me sleep. Sometimes I'll have to take one the next day (and rarely even the next, but then in the past I'd have 3 days of pain plus Syndol/Ibuprofen), as it may return when I wake up. Always goes again though. I'm frightened that I won't have my Zomig when I need it, it's that good!Read More Read Less

Zomig has been a Godsend for me. Before a Neurologist put me on it I was at the ER dozens of times a year. I haven't had to go to the ER since. I've had migraines since I was fifteen and suffered terribly until I was given Zomig. I had been on everything before and nothing worked. Of course, different meds work differently on everyone but if you are looking for a medication to try for migraines I would highly recommend it. I can take one and if it doesn't work I can take one an hour later but no more than two in 24 hours. I very rarely need to take two. I started Zomig about 20 years ago. I have not experience any side effects. It is an excellent medication. I so glad it was produced.Read More Read Less
