Actually, my son was given this med for hives and he almost died from multiple seizures and the hospital staff overdosing him. Now my Dr. prescribed it to me for nausea and it plainly states a side effect is nausea. I think most Dr.s' just don't give a rat's behind.

Take it at first sign of sneezing, itching or runny/ stuffy nose. Usually I get a relief within 24-48 hours.

Very effective calmative and no horrible side effects. People often analogize Atarax with Benadryl (diphenhydramine), because both are sedating anti-histamines. But I find Atarax less 'harsh' than Bendaryl, side effect-wise. Indeed Atarax's chemically a different type of anti-histmamine than diphenhydramine is. The onset of Atarax is rapid too. However I personally wouldn't take Atarax too often as it'd probably lose it's charm. Save for extreme emergencies only. As long as you don't have a huge drug tolerance (e.g., high doses of Xanax, etc., everyday)I think you'll also find Atarax very effective - when it's absolutely needed. I'd imagine that Atarax could be effective for stopping panic attacks too, as well as for very low-level drug withdrawal.Read More Read Less

Started taking for itching but it really helped in sleeping - particularly staying asleep. I haven't slept for more than 5 hours per night since stopping the drug several months ago. I only stopped the drug because my doctor advised that I do so.

I have a severely painful and itchy chronic skin disorder for which there is no cure, and standard treatments have not worked. This is the FIRST drung in the 16 years I have had this to IMMEDIATELY reduce the pain and itching from off the chats (like 12 out of 0-10) down to a 2-3 in 10-15 minutes! It is AMAZING! I love it and will never go off it.

My primary care giver had first prescribed prozac, the added klonipin. I was referred to a psychiatrist which I cannot see until they have an appt in a month. I ran out of klonipin, so the dr.'s team gave me this instead of the klonipin. This stuff knocks me for a loop, I cannot think straight and I'm dizzy as heck after sleeping 12 hrs straight. I may end up going to the ER if the dizziness and dialated pupils don't go away. I never want to take this med again!

This medication was selected for me in place of xanax, and this works for me. I take one and sleep well, although the full 25mg's puts me out for a little too long. I am thankfull for this medicine. Finally something my DR would prescribe without hesitation.

I only take a 1/2 tab since it is so potent. Relieves skin allergies and great for sinus drainage. Only take a bedtime.
