I have ADD, not ADHD. I noticed a difference in my cognitive abilities almost immediately after using Adderall XR. The 30 mg capsule made my heart race, so my dosage was reduced to 25 mg. The ideal dose for me would probably be somewhere in between 25 mg and 30 mg. My symptoms gradually worsened over a period of 30+ years and resulted in multiple job losses, divorces and financial difficulties. ...

My boyfriend is 100 percent dependant upon this drug. Although he claims it has changed his life by enabling him to focus at work. There is a severe downside to using this drug. He suffers from severe anxiety attacks, extreme mood swings, bursts of anger, lack of sex drive, depression, he is anti-social, he demonstrates obsessive compulsive disorder he suffers with extreme exhaustion, loss of ...

20mg per day. alleviates symptoms of ADD. Cut out coffee so as to not interact with Adderall and SEVERE caffeine withdrawals that I initially attributed to the adderall. I was getting extremely fatigued in the afternoon. Crashing completely. One cup of coffee or about 100mg of caffeine fixed the problem. If you've been self-medicating you ADD with caffeine, be careful of withdrawals if you go of it while on adderall. withdrawals symptoms may or may not be headaches, might be fatigue, fuzziheadedness, inability to concentrate, sleepiness. As little as one 8oz cup of coffee or 25mg of caffeine can alleviate withdrawals. Adderall works great and lasts about 12 hours. I've been on it for 8 days.Read More Read Less

My 7 yr. old son was diagnosed about 1 1/2 yrs. ago with ADHD. We started out with Concerta which worked for a month, but we never saw a great improvement with his symptoms. He has been on Adderall for over a year and fianally last month we reached peak satisfaction. This drug is great, but ADHD is a disease that you constantly have to monitor and keep in close contact with your health care provider. His dosage over a year has increased from 10-25 milligrams. So, if you are like me and expect that a miracle will occur and symtoms resolve after a short period of time, do not give up, things will gradually improve and then one day you look at your child and realize that he no longer has significant symptoms of ADHD. My son no longer gets in trouble at school and has been on the A honor roll for quite some time. Adderall has been a wonderful choice for my child.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Adderall off and on for about 4 years. I can only take it for short periods though because i get insomnia really bad, headaches, loss of appetite, dry mouth, muscle aches, and i grind my teeth a lot. The main issue is the sleep deprivation though(notice it's 5 a.m. and I'm still awake). This medication does help me to pay attention in college especially when i have to pull all-nighters. I don't have ADHD but i do have problems focusing, however, my friends and i agree that this medication GIVES you ADD (or at least it feels like it) even if it does help you to concentrate. It will also make you talk your head off.Read More Read Less

As an adult with ADD, this drug has worked very well in getting me to focus more easily and it keeps me that way. My weight has remained stable and I have not felt any addiction symptoms. I don't have to have it and can stop at any time. Perhaps I simply do not have a tendency toward addiction.

I was being treated for depression, stress and anxiety. Certain difficulties I was having led my psychiatrist to suggest I may have ADD (not hyperactive). The adderall works (no doubt about that), but other elements of my day-to-day activities limited its effectiveness - I worked rotating shifts, variable lengths of time - that prevented me from developing a routine. This was dealt with by adding adderall (immediately acting) to the XR (30 mgs each). This seemed to work, until I changed jobs and ended up with a worse working enviroment. Now unable to focus at all off work, overstress at work requires increased medication for depression et al. Adderall might be an excellent drug, but only if used in an environment where behavioral aspects of ADD can be addressed, as well.Read More Read Less

I was diagnosed with ADD in 3rd grade. I was put on Ritalin and it was not good for me. My parents took me off and thought I had been misdiagnosed. Fast Forward to college where I am struggling with my school work. One class in particular I am studying for days and getting D's. I was rediagnosed and given adderall. My grades improved from mostyl C's to A's and B's. A positive side effect: I would take it as soon as I got up in the morning and it made it easy for me to make it to early classes. I did experience dry mouth but it wasnt intolerable. Once in a while I would have trouble sleeping but some people say they sleep better on this because their thoughts dont race before bed. As for mood swings I didnt experience any. Some people might have said I wasn't as cheery but it was because I was so focused on getting something done I didnt have time to be distracted. I consider this a good thing. I did like the XR pills better. I have been off of my meds for 2 years and feel I should get back onto it for my job.Read More Read Less

My main concern with this medication has been my mouth being dry-since I am a ventriloquist- that is very unpleasant side effect. I lowered my dosage and that has helped -yet the drug gives me just the edge I need for extra concentration. I am able to sit still during meetings and contribute reather thatn be a distraction.

I'm not certain it is effective or not. My daughter has been on this medicine (5mg) for 9 days. and today while reading she said that the words were moving. I don't know I'll call the pharmasist.

I have two sons who are on Adderall XR. The oldest takes 30mg and went from taking 3-4 hours a night to do homework in 3rd.grade undiagnosed to 1-2 hrs.a night. He has either been on Honor Roll or High Honor Roll throughout 6-8grade and doing very well in High School. He is in 10th grade and can tell me when he needs to have an increase in medication. My other son is in 5th grade and is doing very well also. He was also diagnosed in 3rd grade. He takes a 15 mg dose. I can honestly say is has been a god send to have this medication. There is no longer the hours and hours spent on homework every night. Or the constant yelling to "Go do your homework!"Read More Read Less
