I have been taking Forteo for the last year and a half. My doctor encouraged me to take it because my bone density was -7 at the time of my last DEXA scan. I have not been experienced any side effects until now. Muscle in my thigh has been very painful off and on for a few weeks. There have been no changes in my activities or my daily routine. I'm hoping to connect with others who are having a similar experience.

I am 56 yrs. old. I have been on Forteo since 1/2016. I was experiencing weakness, imbalance, had 1 major fall and 2 other falls. For about 3 yrs. my body always ached, lost 15lbs, digestive problems, loss of appetite, loss of strength, really slowed down. Went to my dr.; did a bone density, had severe osteoporosis. She prescribed Forteo. I've never had a broken bone, postmenopausal at age 50. Have experienced coughing as soon as I inject Forteo. I still have all the symptoms above, but they are more intense after injection. Add'l symptoms are frequent urination, growing pain-like symptoms, short-term memory loss. Take meds for IBS-C which is under control. I was hoping Forteo would eliminate all the pain. I was wrong. I will speak to my Dr. again and them make my decision whether I continue taking it or not. Most of my friends have done very well with calcium and vitamin D supplements, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle. As for me I have tried all that and I feel I need a little more help. Forteo seemed to be the solution. Now I'm not sure.Read More Read Less

T-score -5.6, with multiple compression fractures in spine. Forteo is easy to use but sometimes a little bruising at injection site. No real noticeable side effects. Due to get blood results next week to see if it's working. I also take D3,K2, magnesium, silica and have 3 to 4 serves of calcium per day

After having multiple breaks in most vertebrae due to severe osteoporosis (after early menopause at 40), I was given Forteo and have been taking for 11 months. HAS WORKED AND NO SIDE EFFECTS! This replaced pain meds, routine injections into spine which had risks, PT expense limited by insurance. It was clear to multiple doctors I would continue to lose bone mass and I am only 50. Medications could stop bone loss but I had high risk of continued breaks. I even went to back surgeon's who tout those new fusing solutions but I was rejected as they thought I would have more breaks! I started Forteo in January. Easy to use. In July I was in a major car accident. NOT ONE BROKEN BONE! Doctors were amazed as I was in a truck that ran into rock wall and was totaled. I walked out of the ER with no issues. In terms of cost. ELI LILLY can send you a prescription savings card so without thus savings card, I would pay $400/month under my insurance as it is a Tier 4 drug. But I only pay $50/month thanks to this card! All meds have risks. But if anyone has cracked a vertebrae, especially up in thoracic region, you know quality of life is significantly impacted. My life now with zero pain, no pain meds, no outpatient steroid shots (where I risk paralyzation), is awesome! I am too young!! Thank you for FORTEO!! Read More Read Less

My problem with taking Forteo are: 1.increasing my blood sugar levels. 2.Unusual tiredness and body ache. 3.Risk of getting bone cancer. 4.Paying $350.00 co-pay. 5.Taking the amount of money allotted by medicare. Today the pharmacy told me that I have to pay for all brands because I completed with all my medicare drugs money!

I have been on Forteo for 8 months. The shots are easy to do, but the leg pain especially at night is pretty bad. Twice I have had to stop taking it for a couple of weeks to get the pains to stop. I also have issues with muscle spasms in my legs at night, which the doctor says is not the Forteo, but I am not convinced. I have not had a new bone scan so I don't know if it is working.

After six months started to have intermittent pain in left temple and other areas of head. Stopped Forteo for six months symptoms got better. Dr. claimed it was not the Forteo so started the Forteo again. The head pains have returned and stopping it for good. After the one year I did have a 13% increase in bone in my spine and a slight decrease in one hip.

I started forteo and had increased urination after dosage. Some brain fog. After a year 11 percent increase in bone density of spine. Mild decrease in one hip. Now I am having terrible insomnia headaches with numbness on top of my head. Memory issues. Drs don't attribute this to the drug .going to see a neurologist.

After taking Forteo daily for 2 months, I began to experience side effects. I let my endocrinolgists nurse about the effects. She told me "I should not be having any side effects that I mentioned". She said this never having taken Forteo herself!... my side effects are very real and include: on and off pain in knee, ankle, wrist, kuckles, shins, hips, leg muscles, plus insomnia, coughing 0.5 hrs. after taking the shot, tiredness, headache for 15 mom after having the shot, and overall hip pain where muscle attached to hip. The latter ends up with me losing control of my leg momentsrily, almost to the point of falling and happens 2-3 times between successive steps. I am stopping Forteo for a week to see if these side effects go away. Everyone reacts to drugs differently, and medical professionals should listen to what the patient is experiencing. I am disappointed in how my health-care providers rave about Forteo saying I should not be having side effects, especially without them having taken Forteo... Folks, there are side effects... I you have them then consider finding out why and what it all means to your own health situation. Thank you for allowing me to share my Forteo side effects with you. I had 5 spinal compression fractures before Forteo was on market. Three doctors said a new drug is coming out that will be perfect for you. And Forteo was perfect for me. I took it for 2 years. I had no side effects. My Dexa showed improvement in my spine. No longer have osteoporosis in spine. Not as much improvement in my hips. 5 years later, my Dexa still shows improvement in my spine. Forteo is the only osteoporosis drug that actually builds bone. I think what also helps me feel physically strong at 76, is the Water Aerobics exercises the PT dept put me on to recover from my 5 compression fractures. I still regularly do water exercises with foam dumbbells and have built muscles in my legs and arms which protect my bones and which helped me recover quickly from knee replacement surgery.Read More Read Less

I did the shots every night for 2 years. Had a bone scan after that period. It showed more bone loss than before doing the shots. I hated giving myself the shots every night.

Effectiveness and satisfaction to be determined after a year of use (started in July 2013). Due to severe fatigue, and moderate nausea during the first month, had a respite of 10 days then went to injecting every third day. Saw major difference especially with fatigue. I am small bone, weigh 100 lbs. Was on Fosamax for 8 years and had one quarterly Boniva IV with flu like symptoms for 2 months afterwards. Do not want to take Prolia and risk negative side effects for months. Have asked doctor for Evista or Estrogen instead and rheumatologist says it is strictly a gyn medication to which I disagree. Why so many doctors are enamored with Forteo is the $64 question. I will try to stay on Forteo for a one year with a once every 3 day injection. Then will have bone density testing even if I have to pay out of pocket and decide whether or not to continue. Mentally I am having a difficult time with taking Forteo and imagine it will be another drug that lawyers eventually will be compiling class action suits against the manufacturer.Read More Read Less

No side effects except that I had some leg cramps at the start of treatment. I increased my calcium supplement to 500 mg/day and the cramps went away. I've been on Forteo for 7 months and have had no fractures. I had three fractures in the year before going on Forteo, so this seems like a good result. I haven't had a DexaScan since starting Forteo, but my last DexaScan was very bad.

I have had headaches everyday. Increased joint and back pain. My hair always looked good until it started Forteo and Cymbalta now it is frizzy and dead looking. I have been on Forteo for 1 year, Dr wants me on it for 18 months before doing another Bone Density Test. Really?

Injected Forteo for 2 years and results were amazing. Bone density increased dramatically and I also had no tooth decay (normally do) in that time. I have fibermyalgia and bursitis and deal with pain daily, however had no problems, just good results with this med. Had taken Actonel prior to this and Boniva after this with bone density going down with each. have many other health problems causing the osteoporosis. Only downside is giving myself the injection each day.

I am 72 years old, have been taking Forteo for one year with no side effects except leg cramps at night and some lower back pain...latest dexa scan showed that Forteo is working and had the scan been one number lower, I would have moved out of osteoporosis back into osteopenia BUT I had an endoscopy today because food keeps getting caught in my throat causing me pain and ultimately to vomit. The doctor wants me off Forteo for 3 months...he thinks it is causing the problem. My esophagus has a sloughing effect and the doctor thinks it will heal if I no longer take the Forteo. I have tried Actonel, Fosamax and Evista with disastrous side effects. My rheumatologist said after two years with Forteo, I then have to take Prolia (which also has same side effects). Will take my chances with no drugs going forward but exercise, liquid calcium, Vitamin D3 and pray I don't fall. Sad as the dexa scan results were very good. Read More Read Less
