Antabuse, combined with other treatment modalities is an awesome way to get the Alcoholic on the way to sobriety. However, care must be used in those suffering from hepatocellular dysfunction or other liver problems. Unlike other expensive drugs this deterrant can help the alcoholic build a foundation to recovery.

Ok, I JUST started it yesterday. Have taken only two tablets so far. How long does it take to kick in?? I wanted to find out how sick it can make you, so I tried some cologne...waited 90 min, nothing. Did a shot of tequila...then another...and just did my third. Have NO signs (headache, nausea, etc). what's up with this???

After my first rehab in cali thought I had it beat, bought a quart of vodka on the way to lax.Back to 30 oz a day of vodka,I was 200lbs at that time.Drank aprox that much for the next 3 months, didn't eat much got to 180.I was too drunk to go to meetings.stopped working ..no kidding. The only thing that stopped me was I needed a major operation,Had first one cancled due to showing up with a bal of 4.6 two hrs after last drink. Not bragging that was my reality family gave up on me...didn't think I was going to be around much longer.Had operation was drinking and taking 8 mg of dilatude a day.not a safe combo.About april called and got a spot in rehab in cali again...Took it more serious this time started me on naltrexone, avtibuse and a antidepressant. The naltrexone has reduced my cravings by 80% or so,antibuse read up on side effects on it 2 weeks now no side effects.Waiting to see what the antidepressant does.so far so good have my life back and family.Back to the gym and gained 27lbs in 5 weeks.not fat. Some of my friends don't reckogmnize me,If I can do it anybody can.Drinking 900oz of vodka for months will lead you to a painful death.after care and take the meds that work for you...don't stop any of what works ,when you think you got it...you are in deep troubleRead More Read Less

After gastric bypass, i transfered my addiction from food to alcohol. After 7 years of drinking and almost losing my husband. I tried antabuse. It worked as a deterrent for 6 months but I still had the urges to drink. I gave in and had a drink one day and had no bad side effects at all. I had lost my deterrent and started drinking again. My guess is that because of the gastric bypass that it is not getting absorbed. Is antabuse available in a sublingual or shot form? Thanks, Deperate

I have been taking 250mg antabuse for 98 days. I am writing this review to tell other users about MY BAD SIDE EFFECT. After approx 90 days, my lower legs started to feel numb. I am healthy and relatively young, and I didn't understand what could be causing it. Get this: doctor says it's periphrail NEUROPATHY from the antabuse! This is an uncommon, but known side effect. If you are on antabuse and your limbs get pins-and-needles or numb, talk to your dr right away! Otherwise, it will continue to get worse! It's serious! My dr. is making me discontinue the antabuse. In time, the neuropathy should reverse itself. It's too bad, because I really like this medication and would be happy to take it indefinitely if I could. It removes the choice to drink. Enormously helpful in helping me avoid relapse in first difficult phase of sobriety. I'm 100 days sober and my life has already improved dramatically. I lost 25 lbs and I feel much better. I'm in outpatient group therapy 3X/week. I am working hard to drink again. It was terrible. My only other side effect were: minor headache in the beginning, and a bad metallic taste in my mouth. Both of those went away over time. Until I started to feel numbness in my legs, there was nothing troubling or problematic for me about this medication. I really do wish I could keep using it. It makes me feel secure and relieved. Good luck to all. Read More Read Less

This medication is my safety net from alcohol abuse. It is giving me the time I need to learn the skills necessary to live a sober life.

I took this for nickel allergy and skin problems, to chelate the nickel. Within two weeks I had a clearing of the itching and rashes are healing incredibly. I'd had this condition for three years. The side effects were troublesome...fatigue, headache. but it was worth it to get rid of the nickel.

I am concerned with losing the feeling in my legs and feet. I googled and it says side effect of toxicity. Has anyone else had this and if so- how did you handle it.

I had to take a pill every day for 5 days, then 3 times a week. It has been helpful so far with cutting out alcohol from my life. I am doing this willingly, so there is no probation involved. But I am very sleepy and was wondering if this was a side effect?

can't tell if it works or not since I haven't drank in 80+ days....not sure it has any impact on cravings and it just an expensive "safety net" type of treatment

Im 45yrs old, an alcoholic for sure. Went to AA for years, counseling, none of that worked. Started taking Antabuse February 2013 almost a year now, I take 250mg daily. It works for me, a little drowsiness so I take it at night. I've been sober for 9 months now. Only thing that I recently am experiencing is getting an erection. So I have a doctor's appointment this week, where I hope to get some Viagra to take care of that..

I have been taking this medication and am 90 days sober. Somthing I sincerely thought I would never see. I highly recommend this medication and am not certain why IT'S not out there and talked about more. It should be shouted out and highly publized.

My boyfriend has been taking this court ordered for almost 3 years and it has caused dramatic weight loss and now he is suffering from swelling that is causing him to be unable to walk. He has become very ill from this and I am very disappointed in our judicial system here that they make people take this pill three times a week for three years. His health is so bad it has caused him to leave his job. His immune system is so weak that the smallest flu/cold bug in the air and he gets it very badly not to mention the mood swings and the pure frustration that it causes him daily. I do not recommend this pill. It was not FDA approved and it holds some of the same chemical make up at rat poison. It is slowly killing people.Read More Read Less

I had a horrible time quitting drinking and this medication really helped me to become sober. I am currently 6 months sober and I am so happy to be taking it. My life has changed for the better 100%. I would recommend this to anyone that is really serious about becoming sober and understands that there can be absolutely no
