Addison's disease is caused by a lack of production of cortisone which affects most if not all of your bodily hormones. In some patients it creates orthostatic hypotension which is low blood pressure. Extremly difficult to diagnoise as not all symtoms are alike from one patient to another. I found it extremly effective. The side effects are minimal considering the alternative.

Suddenly started to break out: painful, large acne. Had never been a problem, and cortisol drug was only new factor. Re-read the possible side effects, and bingo!

I have to say that this drug has saved my life. I do have some side effects, GERD, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, but considering I was diagonosed 40 years ago, I consider it a miracle that I am still alive. Trick to keeping weight down........tons of fiber and water. In 40 years I have only had a net gain of 20 lbs.

I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ADRENAL INNSUFFICENY ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO. I WAS PLACED ON HYDRCORTISONE. YEAH IT TOOK THE SYMTOMS AWAY, BUT THERE ARE DAYS I STILL FEEL LIKE CRAP. AND THE DISE EFFECTS ARE HORRIBLE. I GAINED ABOUT 30 POUNDS, I HAVE BRUSIES ALL OVER MY BODY, AND I SWEAT NON-STOP, ALL DAY EVERYDAY.. I CANT EVEN FIX UP MY HAIR TO GO OUT, WITHIN 10 MINS IT LOOKS LIKE I DIPPED MY HEAD IN A BUCKET OF WATER. BUT LIKE OTHERS SAID, U HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT CAUSE THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE BETTER THAN YOUR LIFE ITSELF. I FINALLY GET TO SEE THE SPECIALIST FOR THIS CONDITION THIS MONTH.. SO HOPEFULLY HE CAN MAKE A CHANGE OR FIGURE SOMETHING ELSE OUT. THEY FOUND THIS DISEASE BECAUSE I WOULD GO TO SLEEP AND NO ONE COULD WAKE ME UP, IT WAS LIKE I WAS IN A COMA TYPE SLEEP. I DID NOT HEAR MY KID CRY, SCREAM, HOLLAR, AND THAT REALLY SCARED ME TO DEATH. Read More Read Less

I have addisons disease & Celiac disease. This medication has cut back on my Emergency room visits. I am very upset & disappointed over the 70 lb wieght gain over a 2 1/2 yr of trmt. I wish there was something that works minus the weight gain. I think at some point i am going to pop! & when does the weight gain stop? The dr. says atleast my levels are better. =/ that'd be true if i felt 100%. I feel robbed due to being so fatigued & irritated!

If I miss a dose I will feel it! I will feel sick and dizzy. I am easily nauseated when I miss a dose. Besides human error, this drug works great when used correctly.

I can say nothing but good things about my hydrocortisone and am surprised to read of others who have not been happy with it. I am chemically sensitive after having an extreme overload of mercury in my body (12 times the normal limits according to Mayo Clinic). The mercury did in the adrenals and the thyroid so I am on both hydrocortisone and Naturthroid. I dose my hydrocortisone according to my symptoms, going up or down by 2.5mg as I find it necessary, but always staying around 35 mg. Right now (it is autumn) I am getting a lot of air hunger from all the molds so I have needed to increase a bit, to 40 mg. Within 2 days I am feeling fine. I get no side effects, no moodiness nor depression and no weight gain, though I start to loose weight if I am not getting the amount I need. Other symptoms of needing more are extreme anxiousness, not sleeping well and presently the breathing problems. I am extremely thankful for my hydrocortisone. I can't imagine life without it. It is the one medication I can depend on and have not reacted to.Read More Read Less

My doctor said I was borderline for having Addisons disease. I took an Adrenal saliva test which came back stating that I wasn't releasing enough corisol. I take a couple mg 3x a day and I hate it! I have gained 10lbs. I am very anxious, moody, swollen, super tired, fatigue and nausea like crazy. I want an alternative drug!!! :( Any ideas?

This medication was prescribed to me for my fainting back when I was 12. I took it for a couple months with no significant improvement. 2-3 years later, they had me try it again, also for a few months, and I dont necesarily know if it was the drug or my teenage years, but my personality completely changed/severe mood swings, weight gain, and most life altering; depression. I dont have proof, unfortunatly, but I cant help but believe that the drug is to blame for the permanent negative effects. As I read over the possible side effects, almost all of them applied to me. If anyone can relate or can provide any more information primarily pertaining to the permanent effects, I would realy appreciate your comment.Read More Read Less

I have Congenital (from birth) Adrenal Hyperplasia. I have been on hydrocortisone since I was diagnosed at 3 days old. I'm 38 now and have developed osteoarthritis, osteoperosis, and osteonecrosis. I also have diabetes type 2 and major depressive disorder. All of these problems can be blamed on long term use of steroids. However, in a case like mine, it's either take the meds and have the problems, or not take the meds, go into adrenal failure, and die. I am not satisfied with what the drug is doing to my body but I have no other choice than to take it.Read More Read Less

This medication that I am taking for asthma because of my constant coughing at night is called Tussionex Suspension. I have been taking it for over 2 years (1x/day), and I have gained over 20 lbs. No one seems to be able to explain to me if this cough medicine, Tussiones Suspension, which has Chlorpheniramine and Hydrocodone is contributing to my weight gain; my thyroid is within normal range. I'm on a 1200/day calories and 36 grams of fat per day, and have lost only 2 lbs in 3 wks. I really need to have someone help me out and let me know if this medication contains steriods. I am getting so depressed because I cannot lose weight with this Alli diet.Read More Read Less

Doctor found a tumor in my brain in my pituitary. I could hardly get out of bed each day, was fainting and had nausea each morning. It has been a year since I started taking this, I feel like myself again. I have gained about 10 lbs in one year, but I have the strength to walk 3 miles every other day, work every day and thank god every day. Happy One!

My MD suggested I take this just increase my levels of adrenal hormone. I'm Hypo-Thyroid & in testing my thyroid levels he noticed that my Cortisol levels were low. I've gained 6lbs since taking this (2 months)& it is very hard on the stomach. Even if taken with food.No dizzy spells but just recently started getting migraines. The worst I've ever had. I can't believe I'm reacting to this on just one pill a day?

I was having fainting spells when I would stand up. My doctor stated it was because my blood pressure dropped about 20 points when I would stand up -- it's called orthostatic hypotension. She also said my adrenal glands are not producing enough adrenaline for my body to sustain the blood pressure when I stand. She recommended taking hydrocortisone sustained release. I only have two complaints: 1. It's hard on an empty stomach. 2. I wish a doctor had found this earlier! It would have been so helpful to prevent these mysterious fainting spells!Read More Read Less
