Doctor has prescribed Lomotil "take 1 to 2 tablets daily as needed." No Results!! Is there a better, or alternate, drug for the diarrhea?

I have IBS and microscopic colitis, alternately or can be together...often 6-8 weeks at a time. When all other treatments fail to get me back to work, I use Lomotil, it eases the bowel just long enough for my system to remember what 'normal' is, I am grateful for it!

I have IBS, i've had it for 23 yrs, the first 14 yrs i tried everything drug out there that was suppose to releave my symtons,none worked. Then the dr give me lomotil and my life has changed. It was my miracle drug. I also was confined to the house, couldn't go anywhere, could not go out to eat, could not enjoy life. I think it is the best drug out there for Ibs or cronic diarrhea. Now the dr is tryin to stop giving it to me, he has put me on a different med called robinul. Been on it now for 2wks. Don't work for me. They are saying that lomotil is being classed as a drug that regulations has passed where they can't give it to me. Don't understand. An intestinal blockage resulted in surgury and a loss of 30 cm of my upper intestine.Ever since I've been plagued with chronic diarrha.I must stay away from very fatty foods but otherwise lomotil has helped me have a normal bowel.My one suggestion would be to make it extended action although it does have a half life of 12-14 hrs.

Lomotil is the only drug I've ever taken that will give me the freedom to get out of the house, without diarrhea. I have colitis since I was a child, and my symtoms have become worse with age, but Lomotil still works to give the freedom to go out.

It has helped tremendously with my diarrhea. I have diarrhea associated with panic attacks and nerves and it is a lifesaver when I get in a very nervous or stressful situation!

Cant live normally without it. Small pill, easy to swallow.

Since starting this medication I am having nightmares and my stomach hurts so bad its unreal. On a scale of 1 - 10 I'd have to say its a 12. Has it caused stomach pain to anyone besides myself?

I've been taking two tablets, four times daily, for over a month to control diarrhea. I'm being tested to see what is causing the diarrhea (the doctors can't figure it out). The medication is hit-and-miss. One day it will work then it won't work the next day. I've had terrible heart burn while taking it so I have to take an OTC heart burn medication with it. Drink lots of water and remember to take it before you eat or it's useless.

This is one medication that does exactly what is says it will do. Very effective. My pharmacist says if it came on the market today it probably wouldn't be a scheduled Rx.

After 18 years of constant diarrhea, going to a GI and several medications later my family dr put me on this med and I can't believe what a difference it made! I can go out with my kids all day and not worry about looking for a bathroom....love this medication.

my mother is suffering from moderate alzheimers. she has had severe diahrrea formore than two weeks. 87 yrs old,emergency room gave lomotil. it is not working,her family dr.is aware of this condition. i think she needs to be hospitalized,i need some help.

What an absolutely amazing drug. My over all quality of life is so much better. Wish I would of been prescribed this drug years ago.
