I took Amantidine in a double blind study to see the effectiveness of this drug on patients with head injury causing cognitive impairment following brain injury. Was pleased with this medicine and the results I recieved from it.

Started Jan 5, 2012 and now have purple blotches all over, red rash from knees to ankles, and extreme swollen ankles that hurt/burn feeling. I stopped May 5th per doctor, still having NO let up of the purple blotches, rash and swelling. I'm going back to provigil even though it's sooooo expensive, it did work for me before trying the amantadine which was way more affordable, but, I'm paying the price now! Hope these side effects will go away.

Was completely disabled at 35 years of age with two children still at home to support. Various diet, lifestyle, viatmin, mineral and overall boosting of my immune system trials got me back on my feet. Amantadine got me back to work. Fifteen solid years in IT program management. The increase in stamina was nearly miraculous for me. Guess the auto-immune approach did not make sense for me as my earlier attempts to slow down my immunity only made me rapidly/progressively worse. I took one 100 mg. capsule every other day in an effort to prolong it's effectual lifespan - it has worked. Still working. Read More Read Less

So far, I've had a harder time with an increase in dosage from 100mg to 200mg. Yet I'm just a few days into the switch. It's very uncomfortable due to nervousness, but I';ll try to stay with it for 2 weeks.

My mother has dementia caused by CNS vasculitis. She was in the hospital and the neurologist prescribed this drug to "pep her up". She has been on the drug 10 days and it has caused horrible results. Her speaking is slurred, it's like she's drunk. Her right hand is shaking so bad that she can't hold a fork. And she's extremely nervous and aggitated. It's so bad and I am furious at the doctor.

5 months ago I was diagnosed with PD. I had a slight right hand tremor, some face freezing and slowness of gait and small handwriting.Amantadine has restored me back to almost normal.

I have noticed no improvement at all on this medication. If anything my fatigue has worsened. While it is good to try and may work for some it has not helped me in the least.

After several weeks and dosage adjustments, my husband is able to walk better whereas he would "freeze" up and just lean forward. I have noticed some aggression and a mildly non cooperative attitude. I read where effects may diminish upon lengthy use and hope that is not so. The carbidopa he had been put on for a mild tremor caused dyskenisia, so I think this is our only alternative for symptom relief.

my father took this medicvation for 16 days, and was then hospitilized for severe reactions, hallucinationg, couldnt walk or feed himself, convulsions. he is now in a nursing home for rehab. It has been 8 days off the medicine and I just pray that he recovers. I would not personally recommend this medication

my son has autism and recently had a diagnosis of adhd. he has been on the drug for 5 days.he as not ate anythin in 3 days, i called his doctor and he said to stop the drug for 4 days and start back, i dont think i will give it to him again, because he eats very little without the drug and nothing at all while he is on it, which i can not tolerate. i would rather just deal with his adhd than him not eat, very dissapointed.
