I began taking Synthroid for my hypothyroidism. My TSH came down, but my free t3 levels remained low and I was still having many many symtpoms - hair loss, extreme fatigue, swollen eyes and feet, muscle aches, depression....on and on. My endocrinologist added Cytomel to my treatment & it has been wonderful!! I am not completely symptom free and I know I need a slight increase in meds, but the chan...

I have been taking this pill for 3 weeks now and I have not seen any change. I have not lost a pound. I am very disappointed. I have gained weight since being on synthroid and though (as the doctor)I might loose something being on Cytomel. NOTHING!!! Maybe I haven't been on them long enough but...

My endocrinologist added Cytomel to my treatment & it has been wonderful!! I am not completely symptom free and I know I need a slight increase in meds, but the changes are amazing. I haven't had a single migraine headache, my balance has improved, hair loss slowed down, improved energy levels (although still not optimal), and my mood has greatly improved. I can't imagine ever going without this medication.Read More Read Less

After my review of Cytomel (liothyronine Oral)in February 2011, I began to feel wonderful in a week or so, the best I had felt in years right up until the 2nd ablation with 225 millecuries of iodine. I was allowed to begin Synthroid 175 mcg again the following day. It's hard to remember because the ablation was so horrible I was so swollen I thought I couldn't breath. My doctor did not want me to take Cytomel but relented and allows me to take one-half 25 mcg tablet twice a day along with the 175 mcg Synthroid in AM. I felt as if a fog had been lifted and I was the most alert I have been in years. I feel all sluggish again so I don't know if the half dosage of Cytomel is working or not but I WILL NOT stop taking it. Now I am being sent for clinical trials at the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville because the ablation showed no uptake in my lungs or adrenal glands. Maybe they will have an even better drug there. I will not take an anti-depressant but I DO take 1 mg and sometimes more Xanax daily which keeps me calm and allows me to sleep at night.Read More Read Less

A return of thyroid cancer after five years, now in my lungs and adrenal glands. Yes after a total thyroidectomy, removal of 57 lymph nodes and what seems like a year of my life gone. Took Synthroid 175 mcg until two weeks ago when my doctor stopped the Synthroid and put me of 25 mcg Cytomel bid. Horrible headaches for a few days and then the strangest thing of all, "itchy ears". Had to use benadryl liquid on my ears which stopped the itching and in two days the ears are peeling like crazy. In a few days I will stop the Cytomel entirely, wait 16 days and go for another RAI I131 of 200 mci. I will be bonkers by then. First you go crazy and then you don't remember. Thank God for Xanax. I am exhausted at 65.Read More Read Less

I have been on Cytomel for 1 month and have had pros and cons. Pros: Have more energy, weight loss, ability to focus has had some increase. Cons: Serious problems with breaking out with acne...never in my life had that problem before. My once completely unblemished skin has massive painful blemishes reaching all the way up into and past the hairline. It has been very depressing. My eyes also feel very sore and dry. I still feel really tired in the mornings still. I also have extremely itchy skin. Needless to say, I will not continue the medicene. Read More Read Less

Just started taking 8 days ago. After 1 1/2 years of fatigue dr suggested adding cytomel 25mg to my synthroid. Was hoping for better results as I also experienced an itchy rash. Stopped taking it to see if rash goes away. Will start again after to see if rash reappears. Any one else experience a rash?

I could not function without this drug. After being unsuccessfully treated for underactive thyroid for a number of years, the addition of this drug has been life-changing. I finally feel "normal" again.

I began taking synthroid in Sept. for hypothroidism (per blood test). It was great...at first. The fatigue, sore muscles, etc set back in. I went back to the dr. only to fin a groiter & be diagnosed w/ hashimotos. Cytomel has been added to the synthroid. For the first 3 weeks I was a new person however I think I've returned the the tired person I was. Do you plateau?? I've noticed I get hot, rather than cold. I sometimes feel like My left arm tingles (numbing sensation) however I find myself in a better mood as I'm not falling asleep at my desk at 9:30 a.m. after 8 hours a sleep. It's an improvement so I don't want to complain...Read More Read Less

I have been on Cytomel for a year along with Synthroid. At first I felt good, but after a few months, I started to get bloated, stomach pains I don't sleep at night as the drug is wearing off I get the internal shakes, my heart starts pounding i get up exhausted, I have no energy and have gained 22 lbs. My doctor has tried to adjust the dose to no avail. I cannot take synthroid alone. Cytomel is killing me

I have been taking Synthroid for years and the last few years I am exhausted. THe doctor put me on Cytomel along with the Synthroid. I have more energy and have lost the 20 pounds I gained last year. But I have migraines and they seem to be getting worse and I am wondering if the Cytomel could be the cause. I have also sufferd from insomnia and itchy skin. I didn't assoiciate those with the drug until now. I am also concerned about one of the posts stating that it increases bone loss. I have osteopenia and have had back surgery. I don't want to reach osteoporous and am wondering if I should bring this up with my doctor.Read More Read Less

I was on Armour/synthroid combo, with terrific positive effect. When Armour became unavailable, my endo switched me to larger dose of Synthroid + Cytomel (instead of Armour). I have increased water retention, constipation, crumbling fingernails and mental fuzziness. I'm not at all pleased, and am on the verge of begging to be put back on Armour vice Cytomel, now that I have determined Armour is once again in production. (I have ZERO natural thyroid function.)
