I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

i used to have cystic acne, and nothing i tried actually worked. My acne was so painful, so i went to the doctor.I was told to take minocycline, and the acne is gone; unless i miss 2 or 3 days, then it comes back.

my 14 yr old son started taking this medication on Oct 4th. He has been to the dr for difficulty breathing and dizziness. The pediatrician thought the dosage was mild enough to not be responsible. i am so glad i found these reviews. I am throwing the pills out. do you think 3 weeks of taking it caused harm for the longterm?

I was skeptical about using a drug with so many adverse side effects, but I figured it would help my skin in the long run. Turns out, it made me dizzy in the beginning, it was hard to not eat while taking the pill, remembering to take it every day killed, it gave all my joints stiffness, and it only made my skin WORSE. So if you're reading these reviews to get an idea, know this: It did not help me whatsoever. If I had to make a choice now, I would have never gotten the pill, only used Differin gel. It on the other hand, works AMAZING! The longer you remain on the pill in my opinion, the longer your skin will take to recover.Read More Read Less

This never had any affect on me. After 18 months, my shins started turning blueish in color and then small brown spots started showing up. I finally went to my doctor and he told me it was from this drug and is hyper-pigmentation. From what he said, it doesn't sound like it will ever go away.

The first two days I had severe dizziness and was clammy and nauseous but it got better with time. My skin has cleared up significantly and feels alot smoother. I still get occasional blemishes but it was only been 3 weeks so hopefully this will subside.

My son was on this drug for 2 years and last summer we stopped it to try some other treatments. When he went back to college in Jan 08 he saw a new dermatologist who put him back on the medication. A few months into it he started having joint pain to the point where he could not get out of bed. His eye whites and skin turned yellow, he lost 15 pounds (he only weighed 158 to begin with!), he was extremely tired. He was taken off of the drug and within 3 days his joint pain began to subside. He was diagnosed with drug induced hepatitis. He has been to 3 doctors, had multiple blood tests, an abdominal ultrasound, and is slowly on the road to recovery. He also still shows signs of drug induced lupus as well...his joints are still sore, but he can at least function. Ask your doctor if you should be getting liver function tests while on this drug. Just beware! It never really cleared his acne completely.Read More Read Less

At first when i started taking this drug i felt dizzy and nauseated like the side effects said. After a few weeks all that went away. However, i did get a yeast infection. My appetite changed and i don't eat as much anymore, but that is a good thing for me because i need to shape up a little. I have headaches on a daily basis but i just pop 2 Ibuprofen or advil and go on about my day. If you eat healthy along with taking the drug i think the side effects are a lot smaller.

I've just been put on this 6 days ago. I am also using benzaclin topical. These together have been beyond amazing. I couldn't have imagined the deep cystic acne I've been having could possibly disapper so quickly. The pimples and bright redness are completely gone. I have experienced no side effects what so ever from the pills. They haven't bothered me in the slightest. I have to say I read these reviews when I got this prescription and was quite scared...but needless to say...it's been great for me so far! It is working for me without causing any other problems!!! While my acne did clear up while I used this, I am skeptical about being on an antibiotic for long periods (like years). I also had constant vaginal/anal itching while I was on this, which needless to say was really uncomfortable. I am using topical treatments now, and feel better about not putting drugs in my body every day. I also enjoy not having to see a doctor all the time to get refills, and then go to the drugstore every month. Small things, but generally more of a hassle than it's worth.Read More Read Less

My eleven year old daughter was put on this medication for back acne. She was having good results from the medication when after 10 days on it she had a seizure followed by a second seizure the next day. She was taken off this medication after the first seizure. She spent 4 days in the hospital for testing. In the end they decided that the seizures were caused by the minocycline. It has been four months since she was taken off minocycline and she has not had another seizure. This drug is not worth the risks.Read More Read Less

I was only on this medication for a little over 2 weeks when the side-effects began to heavily outweigh the benefits. 1. I had LOTS of unusual fatigue. 2. My appitite was virtually nonexistant. 3. I was sore all over my body. 4. There was some ringing in my ears. 5. And I even had the mouth sores. Not to mention the whole thing about every 12 hours on the hour was pretty inconvenient. And you can't eat half an hour before or after. I hated this perscription.

I've been on minocin for almost 2 months and have generally liked it. My Dr. prescribed it for acne and it really has made a difference in my skin, although the healing process is slow. I do find it hard to take this drug regularly as it needs to be taken on an empty stomach twice per day. My doctor told me to just avoid taking it with high calcium foods. I have noticed a slight increase in small headaches since I began taking it and a few extra cold sores (that heal very quickly) but not other side effects.Read More Read Less

My 14 year old daughter was put on M 2 1/2 yrs ago. Now at 16 1/2 she has had severe headaches for 3 months (every day!) For 2 1/2yrs she has had body bruising that NEVER goes away (she plays soccer). My biggest concern are her recent headaches. She is going off M and onto YAZ. Please help if this is also your experience. She has had an MRI (normal) but headaches persist..what is the half life for M? how long does it stay in the body after discontinued use??

This has worked great for me, but you must take the whole prescription or the acne will return.
