I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

My dermatologist prescribed this medication for my rosacea. I took 200 mg/day for a week, but discontinued it due to the side effects. The redness and acne began to clear up, but my eyelids/face swelled and my eyes dried out. My eyelids were severely swollen and my vision was so blurry I could not drive or work on computer. When I went back to the doctor, she was so shocked at my appearance that she sent me to eye doctor immediately. The eye doctor told me to never take minocycline. He said he has seen several cases where it damaged patients' vision and even caused total blindness. He also said he had seen some cases where it caused swelling of the brain. This medication seems to help rosacea, but the side effects are not worth it. I would rather be able to see. I strongly recommend NOT EVER taking this medication.Read More Read Less

Landed my daughter in the hospital. Headaches and double vision. Spinal tap to relieve pressure around the brain and blood patch to close the holes from the spinal. It was working on the acne, but the payback was not worth it at all. 4 months of use.

Do not take this drug, it is dangerous and can permanently ruin your teeth and vision! Sadly my teeth are now blue/grey after 1 WEEK of using minocycline. I was prescribed to take one pill every 12 hours for 2 weeks (which is 200mg/day). I stopped taking the minocycline on the 7th day because on the 6th day I was having difficulty breathing and my vision was getting blurry (turns out minocycline can also permanently impair your vision)! I'm absolutely devastated. I'm 28 years old. I was perfectly healthy except for my adult acne, and now I've ruined my teeth and my vision. I've always loved my teeth and now there is an obvious line in the center of all of my teeth where is goes from my normal teeth color to BLUE. I'm in shock that my teeth are permanently stained from one week of treatment. And to top it all off, my acne remains the same, it didn't clear up any of my acne at all.Read More Read Less

My dermatologist recommended I take minocycline when my cystic acne would flare up (since it's intermittent). Within 48 hour/two doses, I can see my skin calming down and the cysts weakening instead of strengthening. I only take it for a 7-10 days at a time, just to clear things up, then I stop. I've done this several times and I find it quite reliable! I haven't had side effects.

On the 11th day of a prescribed 14 day treatment, over a 4-5 hour period I developed a h/a, fatigue, and muscle/joint pain. All symptoms progressed rapidly, along with chills. For the next 48 hours I only moved from the couch or bed to drink water and take aspirin. I had to hold my skull if talking, and felt like my brain was swollen since any movement of my head or neck increased the 'head-ache'. My only goal was to get to an emergent care, foolishly thinking I had the flu and trying to look up side-effects was a physically impossible option, and it never crossed my mind. Yesterday (72 hours after onset) some of the discomfort - especially the h/a and neck pain - started to diminish. I then noticed I had missed 2 days (4doses) of minocycline. The other side effects felt minor in the scheme of things. They included: nausea, ear ringing, shortness of breath...Read More Read Less

My 16 year old started taking this for his acne and the nausea and headaches started right away. I told him to give him a chance to see if his body would get used to it. Now his whole body is covered with large, red hives he had to get a shot for the itching and discomfort. Please do not let her child or yourself take this med.

My daughter took minocycline for over a year with poor results. During a routine bloodtest at her physical they found her liver enzymes to be highly elevated. An ultrasound showed no problems. Meanwhile, she stopped taking the mino because it wasn't working. Her liver enzymes became normal, no explanation from md. Then at a new derm she was given Solodyn , which is an extended release minocycline. Gradually she developed a constant sore throat, was extremely tired, and her joints ached badly, worsening over time to the point she barely could walk. Finally after many tests and visits to rheumatologists, and infectious disease drs we discovered she had drug induced lupus and drug induced hepatitis. After stopping the drug her symptoms gradually disappeared. It was a long year of unnecessary pain and agony. Read More Read Less

My 19-yr-old daughter began taking this about 10 weeks ago for acne. She recently has experienced dizziness and spells of anxiety. She will cry for no apparent reason. She has always been an emotionally and physically healthy child. After reading many of these posts, I am pretty certain that it is this med and I have taken her off of it. Praying that it gets out of her system quickly and I get my happy girl back soon! Going to report this to Dr and FDA. Teens, DO NOT take this med.

After 17 days of taking this medicine for advanced rosacea I developed terrible scalp itch, intermittent itching on different body parts, welts on my legs, and dermographism. I have been taking an antihistamine for two weeks. I would never recommend this drug to anyone.

I've been on minocyline for a few months now along with Differen and Aczone (I believe it's called.) I've noticed quite a difference in my skin since starting them. But I do have intense stomach pains and dizziness. I also just started taking birth control so I'm terrified of what the two will do when combined.

I had a yeast infection called folliclitus (of the hair follicle in my scalp). Normal dizziness but also was juicing and drank a drink with a lot of kelp in it and didn't feel well for about 18 hours.

THIS WORKS, MY DAUGHTER AND NEPHEW HAVE GREAT SKIN BECAUSE OF IT. IF YOU HAVE HUNDREDS OF LITTLE BUMPS ON YOUR FACE, ARMS, BACK, AND THIGHS THIS WILL CLEAR IT RIGHT UP. WE TRIED EVERYTHING FROM SCRUBS AND OINTMENT TO RESOLVE THEIR SKIN ISSUES. WITHIN THREE DAYS, THEIR SKIN WAS CLEAR AND REMAINS CLEAR. AWESOME!!! FOR THOSE WHO NEED SOMETHING GOOD.

I had severe acne right when i hit puberty at age 13. I was ashamed to go anywhere but only went to school. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror because i hated the way i looked. Then after 8th grade, the doctor prescribed me this and it did wonders. My face cleared up in a month. I still take it to this day because if i stop for a week or more then i slowly start to break out again. But now just recently since i turned 18, I started getting cystic acne. The minocycline only helps with my regular acne and break outs. Now i need to find something else for my cystic acne. But overall, minocycline is great.Read More Read Less
