I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

I was put on this about a year and a half ago by my dermatologist. After a couple of months my skin began to clear up really well. So that was good! I never had any side effects whatsoever. My only problem is having to take it 1 hour prior to a meal or 2 hours after a meal, its really difficult due to my busy student schedule! Other than that I really like the way my skin looks. Due take it how its prescribed, if you don't then it defeats the whole purpose. Avoid skipping a dose.

After taking minocycline for two days (2 doses), my child thought he was going insane - baffling hours of crying, out of body experiences. It took 5-7 days to get the drug out of his system. He will NEVER try another acne oral medication again due to this experience. In fact, he said he would rather have acne than feel like he was going crazy.

I was prescribed this antibotic for the treatment of acne. After 2 days of use, I became depressed and after 4 days of use I was suicidal. I discontinued the antibotic and was 90% better within a couple of days.. Use caution on this medication!

Did not help the problem, got brown spots on the lower part of my legs, blurry vision, upset stomach. Not worth it.

My dermatologist put me on the antibiotic. The first few weeks of my time on minocycline were fine, but 3 weeks later a series of painful headaches, dizziness, double and blurred vision, and extreme nausea hit me. My primary doctor immediately dismissed my use of the medicine. although it seemed to improve my skin, the horrid side effects were definitely not worth it.

Went to the dermatologist and was prescribed this for perioral dermatitis. Took this medicine the first week without a problem but the longer I took it, I started developing a small itchy rash on my arm one day, but it disappeared after an hour, so I thought no big deal. The next morning I woke up itching all over my body with little bumps that would come and go and swollen eyes. Went back to the dermatologist and was immediately taken off this medication.

My 14 yr old son took 65mg Solodyn (Minocycline) for about 1.5 weeks to treat moderate acne. He started itching and broke out in hives on his torso. The next day it moved to his limbs. Aching joints, swollen hands and feet. Shoulder blades and knees also hurt. He can barely walk or use his hands. Doctor prescribed only Bendadryl and said it should be gone in 2 weeks. He has never had an allergic reaction to medication or hives.

Immediately after starting this medication, I experienced the worse dizziness and lighthead for 12 days straight my instructions were 200mg twice aday for 7 days. Had an adverse reaction to this medication. Hope to never have to use any medications under the tetracycline umbrella, as I am afraid I may experience this reaction again.

I was prescribed Minocycline about a year ago. The first few months I saw very little change. However after a while I noticed my acne did clear up a little bit. Nothing major by any means. After about 8 months of taking Minocycline, I developed small dark spots on my lower legs (calf area, both legs). After seeing my Family Doctor, I was advised it was a side effect of the Birth Control I was also taking at the time. I stopped the birth control shortly after. The spots did not go away or fade as my doctor advised they should do. I then decided to see a Dermatologist. She was the one that advised me the dark spots on my legs were due to Minocycline Induced Hyperpigmentation (google it). My Dermatologist has taken me off Minocycline and I am now on 2 creams (Tazorac and Acanya). All in all, Minocycline did fair for acne, again no major positive results. Just be aware of ALL side effects.Read More Read Less

My skin infection cleared up within 48 hours, which was great. HOWEVER, and as most of the reviews on this site attest to, the side effects are horrendous. On my second day I felt dizzy and nauseous with slight numbness in one arm. Third day the dizziness and nausea actually increased in severity and duration. I want to puke but cannot. Not can I imagine what this drug is doing to my body. Consequently I have decided to stop taking it. Hopefully you have been warned before starting in the first place.Read More Read Less

it's generally easy to take; my pharmacist recommended i take it with foods (that are low in calcium and iron) which tends to be a bit annoying, but whatever. i find it works well when I am consistent in taking it. I've had a few weeks where I was bad at taking it, and the results showed about a month later (minor break out). i dont have any acne on my face, but see the occasional on my back/chest. my acne wasn't that bad to begin with. I haven't noticed any side effects and am pleased with the results. it's also fairly inexpensive i find.Read More Read Less

Within the third week on this medication I began feeling sick, joint pain, fever severe headaches, neck pain, couldn't sleep, thought I had the flu. That evening I broke out with a rash on my bottom. I read the side effects and everything I was experiencing was listed right there. The derm. doc never told me about any side effects except to stay out of the sun. This was all avoidable...I blame myself for not reading the paperwork but also blame the doctor for not telling me to "be sure" and read the paperwork that comes with the medication. This medication should be outlawed! It's a crime! From this point on, I will always read all the information before I purchase ANY medication! Lesson learned!Read More Read Less

I gotta say, I hate being the harbinger of bad news, but here I go... I have been taking this drug for 4 months, and honestly my acne situation has not improved at all. I still have the comedones, the inflamed whiteheads (fun, I know), and oily skin. Although I have experienced no side effects, I have also not experienced any acne improvement, so I am starting to wonder if this pill does anything at all.

I am a 50 year old woman who's face broke out in sever acne about a year ago after 2 tragic losses in my family. I was ashamed to walk out my front door with out cover up on. Because some one would always make a comment " what's wrong with your face?" or "ewe what is all over your face?". My face became lumpy, bright red with large looking white head, it became worse by the day, stress made it worse, I finally went to my doctor, after nothing else worked he prescribed minocycline, with in days of starting this medication I could clearly see positive results. All though I did get an upset stomach and dizzy taking it on an empty stomach. I started taking it with food or a large glass of milk, I know the directions say different but the healing continues. My face looks almost normal again. I have taken a photo of my face almost daily and I am so happy with the results thus far. I have no intentions of taking this medication for months or even years. I will give myself time to heal, SEE my MD in 2 more weeks to check if the medication should be stopped or continued. Sitting here reading all of the negative reactions concerns me, Its clearly written on the warning label if you have negative side effects STOP taking the drug and call your MD.Read More Read Less

Ive struggled with acne for years (Im now 28) & have tried every topical under the sun. My dermatologist put me on this about a week ago, and my skin completely cleared up! I havent had any issues or side effects while taking it either.

Ineffective. Since i have been on the drug for my sever back acne, my acne has just gotten worse. I was embarrassed about it before I was on the pill but now that its gotten worse, I wont even take my shirt off. I wish there was a medication that would actually do what it says it would.
