I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

Experienced mild symptoms listed on others' reviews, but managable. The only side effect I haven't seen others mention is break-through bleeding. I am on birth control but began experiencing minor break through bleeding since beginning this medication. Hoping it will taper off in the coming weeks as I get adjusted to meds. Have noticed a difference already in the amount of acne on my face- used to be severe and sore to the touch. Happy with results thus far.

I have only been on this medication for 2 days, but I am going to have to stop taking it. I am EXTREMELY dizzy as I type this, at work mind you, and the nausea and lightheadedness is not worth all this. Im going back to doxycycline.

I am a 28 year old female with cystic/nodular acne. I had not had severe problems since puberty, but within the last year, my acne has come back. When I was 13, I took tetracycline and it worked great. I saw the dermatologist a few days ago and she put me on this. The only complaint I have so far is the severe nausea and dizziness. I really noticed it a lot today, so much that I will be calling the Dr. back Monday to ask about something different. For females though, if you take this, or any other regular antibiotic, and you're prone to yeast infections, taking Acidophilus to help restore your natural bacterial body flora is helpful. Eat a lot of yogurt too. I am VERY prone to yeast infections and this helped a lot. As always, check with a healthcare provider before taking any medication. I would not recommend this for children and teens because the nausea and dizziness is very distracting and uncomfortable. Thank goodness I knew what it was from! Hope this helped...Read More Read Less

I'm on my third day of taking this for my acne. I've been experiencing horrible vertigo. Extreme dizziness. My derm is now switching to doxycline. Hopefully this is better.

I've been on this for about 4 1/2 months now for acne along with Differin gel. This has been an amazing combination for me. I had cystic acne on my chin and forehead and started using these two at the same time. The minocycline has definitely had an effect- especially on the breakouts I used to get on my chest and back(where I don't use the Differin). I no longer get breakouts at all.

My 16 yr old son has ben taking this about 2 weeks now. In the last couple days he has been complaining about dizziness and not clear headed when concentrating. I'll be calling the doc tomorrow to see if there are alternatives. Reading some of these postings im really getting concerned if its just not better to live with the acne until it clears. He is supposed to see results in 3 months. None seen yet.

My 16 year old daughter started this medication for acne. She started having headaches, neck pain, and then double vision. We were back to the doctor numerous times, then when she had the double vision we went to the eye doctor who took films of her optic nerves that we found were buldging. We went right to the ER and my daughter was hospitalized and had a CT, spinal tap and MRI. As soon as the doctors heard she was on this medication they suspected Psuedotumor. She has since been seeing a Pediatric Neurologist and Pediatric Opthamologist and has had to have another spinal tap. She has not taken this medication since her hospitalization and 9 months later is finally doing better. The doctors said she was very close to becoming blind because her optic nerves were so swollen and could repture at any time. This medication is not worth it and there should be more warnings for these side effects especially for children/adolescence.Read More Read Less

My Dr. prescribed Minocin for my face breaking out due to stress and anxiety. I am a female 60 yrs old. This medication gives me a horrible headache, I have been taking it approximately 2 yrs, I have horrible ringing in my ears, my balance is really off, can't bend over. Now my head is very sore hurts to brush my hair, or lay down on the back or sides of my head. I have had an MRI 3 weeks ago, the brain appears normal. I have had a history of pseudotumorcerebri, Could this be the result of the Minocin? Anyone out there experiencing the same thing with this medication?Read More Read Less

I took this back in high school because acne problems. It did nothing. No side effects, no wanted effects. It was just like taking a pill everyday with no results. I stuck with it for a month before I went back and my dermatologist prescribed a different cycline medication.

I have been on minocycline for over a year. Had to stop taking it due to bruising which my dermatologist calls hyper skin pigmentation. I have been off it it for a week and a half and my bruises are already disappearing. However, I was told yesterday by my dermatologist that it could take up to a year or more for the bruising to completely go away. The worst side effect that I had was the brown staining of my teeth. Before this drug I could smile and be proud of showing my teeth. Now because of the staining I do not smile to the point that I show my teeth. It is embarrassing to have these stains. This side effect is after I spend $1800 to correct a couple of problems with my teeth. Now I am going to have to undergo more dental work and there is not guarantee that the stains will go away. I also know someone who is on this same med and now has gray teeth and was told by her physician that her bones are now stained permanently gray.Read More Read Less

I have only been taking minocycline for 5 days and I feel like I have been run over by a bus. Headache, body aches, nausia, dizzyness....you name it, I'm experiencing it. Not sure if I should continue taking it or if I should stop. Haven't noticed any change in my complexion, just in how bad I feel.

I did have some dizziness and nausea, and went to the doc, which he said was vertigo, but after reading everyone's experiences, I'm thinking maybe it was the minocycline? I will say my acne is MUCH better now though, but it has caused my skin to become very dry and I've also noticed some new freckles/moles appearing on my face and body. My derm made me go off it now, so I'm thinking of switching to tetra? Anyone use that?
