I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago at age 58. After doing extensive research, I requested that my Rheumatologist allow me to try the antibiotic treatment, using minocycline, instead of the conventional treatments. He agreed. Within three weeks of taking 100 mg 2x/day, my flares had ceased. Within 2 months the swollen joints were returning to normal. Over the years, minocycline (...

Prescribed for acne. Worked well while i took it. But this will only work while you take it. So when you stop taking you can expect your acne to come back. Since prolonged use of antibiotics can destroy your guts microflora and also compromise you immune system, I would recomend skipping this and go straight for an effective cure such as isotretinoin. Also I got the stomach flu 2 times while takin...

I have adult acne and truly seems to be the only prescription that worked towards getting rid of the bacteria!

I've taken minocycline 4 nights in a row, one capsule before bed. The first day I noticed a sore/dry throat. The second day - I can't remember the second day... The third day (yesterday) I had a sore throat, fatigue, light headed, confusion, and shallow breathing with a feeling that I am not taking in enough oxygen. Last night I woke up multiple times in desperation for water and shallow breathing. Today I have the same shallow breathing, lack of oxygen feeling, confusion, feeling that everything is slow, dry/sore throat, periods of fatigue, and memory lapse from the second day I took it. This would have been my fifth night on minocycline, but after reading the other reviews and judging from my own experience with it- I have decided to stop taking it. Read More Read Less

I have been taking this medication now for about four months and from the very first week, it completely cleared up the painful nodules that had gotten worse and worse over the last year. I read the review here and was somewhat concerned, but thankfully, I have not had any kind of side effect while taking this medication. All I have experienced is clear skin and my face has not looked this smooth and clear in years. I do have some pigmentation darkening on both sides of my face. I don't know if this is due to the medication or from the old nodules that were previously on those exact spots on my face.Read More Read Less

Causes stomach upset! Instructions from pharmacy say not to take for 1 hour before or 2-3 hours after meals and meds (i.e. on an empty stomach). This conflicts with what WebMD says about taking it with food. When following pharmacy directions it's hard to find two 4-hour stretches of time without food each day to take the medicine.

I had a horrible outbreak of perioral dermatitis. It occurred a week after my sister passed away and at first I thought it was the shingles but wasn't. I am a very self-concious, nervous person and didn't go in public and show my face for weeks upon weeks. The Minocin, along with a Rx face cream helped it dramatically at onset, however, it continues to recur and it also is painful. Causes me not to want to go anywhere. My liquid makeup, Revlon Colorstay 12 hr seems to aggravate it although I have used it for over 10 years. I only use Johnson's white, baby lotion for a moisturizer. Any suggestions for another makeup that REALLY COVERS? Nevertheless I feel this is a problem that I am going to have to live and deal with which depresses me very much. The Minocycline, oral, and Rx face cream have helped better than anything I have used so far. I just wish it would go away forever!!! Any natural remedies I could use in addition??Read More Read Less

While it helped improve my (now) adult acne (I'm 25 and have had acne since age 10), the side effects were too much so I had to discontinue using the drug. I could handle the dizziness, feeling sick and tired all the time, etc., but I stopped taking the pills when the medication caused the skin above my upper lip to turn brown (my skin is usually pretty pale), which made me look like I had a mustache :( Note that I am female so this not a desirable result. It also caused pigmentation on my thighs, but this was not as horrific as the mustache-looking pigmentation on my face. I took the drug for about three months before the skin pigmentation occurred. I"ve been taking this medication for 2 1/2 weeks now and felt better but it gave me hives all over my body. I guess i'm allergic to this medication. I took benadryl and it worked only for two hours and my hives came back, i then called my doctor and prescribed me meds but it has been 2 weeks now still have a little hives here and there. I got a new prescription now.

I was put on this treatment for my moderate acne in conjunction with Differin Gel. Minocycline has to be taken on an empty stomach which is extremely difficult because in the morning I am usually very hungry and like to eat breakfast. At night time it did not bother me because generally I stop eating after dinner. To help this, I started waking up early to take the drug and then going back to sleep. However, every single time I take the drug I get very nauseous and dizzy. Often times I have lucid dreams that sometimes feel like plain hallucinations. Occasionally these side effects will persist into the day and I will experience memory lapses and an inability to concentrate. I have been on the pill all summer and have not seen any substantial improvements. I have decided to stop taking it because it has not been worth it for me. Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication as a preventative measure by my dermatologist because I had facial laser treatment. I was nauseous on day 2, which I ignored. On day 3 nausea continued with sharper stomach pains and a sore throat. Day 4 I missed work thinking I was getting sick. Day 5 I went to work with sharp stomach pains, heartburn, sore throat, tightened chest, shallow breathing, confusion, emotional hypersensitivity, depressive type negative thinking and strong fatigue. I stopped taking it. It's day 6 and I'm still fatigued, have sore throat and stomach ache, am dizzy. Called my doctor but she hasn't called back yet.Read More Read Less

I started taking 100 mgs twice a day. After about 6 months, I got a weird taste in my mouth and cut the dosage to once a day. At first I flared really bad (and upon research this was normal) but after that, any flares I had were minimal and didn't last more than a day. It was great for me! I had to quit taking it recently because the taste in my mouth just bugged me to no end and I lost the ability to taste food fully. Overall, I was happy to have been on it for a year but am now trying something else.Read More Read Less

My daughter used this drug for 5 years. She was recently diagnosed with lupus. No one told us about the horrific side effects. We are definitely reporting this to the FDA and recommending that it be taken off the market. We are amazed to read about how many young women and men have had similar affects.

I took Minocycline for Ocular Rosacea. I also have facial rosacea. It cleared the facial rosacea, so that is good, but I felt light-headed, hot, sweaty, flushed and urinated blood. I discontinued it and started it up again two times to make sure that it was causing the blood in urine and other symptoms. Each time I discontinued, it stopped and when I started again, within 2 & 1/2 hrs I would feel really sweaty, hot, flushed, light-headed and start urinating blood. I was on doxycycline for the rosacea and had no problems, but it is not covered by insurance. I will have to go back on it because my doctor says they are the only two that he prescribes that treat ocular rosacea. Read More Read Less
