6 years ago, I was having about 1 gout attack a month in my feet and ankles, which would last for up to 2 weeks. The attacks were so bad I would end up on the floor in tears. I've broken many bones and had sprains due to my athletic lifestyle. The gout pain is/was by far was the most painful of anything I've experienced. I started on 100 mg of Allopurinol for 2 months, but the attacks still came. ...

Fluid trapping in the lower extremities should be listed as a severe side effect: it is not! Been on this drug over 6mths and although it lowered my uric acid levels within normal range rather quickly ( noted via blood test ) it punishes you with fluid saturation in the knee and/or calf ankle. Immobilizing you! It isn't a secondary gout attack as many described its a side affect. Stopped taking aluprinol abruptly and my knee/calf ankle become functional and within 3 days I had full range of motion with stability power. This medicine is not for everyone, this should be said more often. Gout sucks, but meds that confuse the patient ability to achieve wellness because of the relative impact of the side effect is not a solution. It's just circle the drain wondering when, or if... More like wtf? "Can't walk cause I got gout from poor diet, can't walk now cause aluprinol is saturating my left knee or ankle with fluid.... " for me water and what I eat is the most important decision I make several times a day everyday, otherwise gout will punish you and so shall the meds that are to help you. And those who can take it and have no issues " good for you" but those who are questioning , it's because your body is telling you something. It ain't right, Mkay? Aluprinol, no thanks.. I'm good with some pineapple and black cherries, backed with a gallon of water. Put that in your memoirs FDA , lol.Read More Read Less

I have suffered from Gout for the past 10 years. Initially I had a very severe flare up that put me on crutches for weeks, I was then put on allopurinol only when I had flare ups, but the flare ups continued. Most recently I began having more frequent flare up and my doctor increased my prescription from 100mg per day to 300mg and not I'm on 600mg. I recently have begun to experience minor flare ups and knee discomfort. I have changed my diet and increase my medicine and still discomfort. I am just tired of the pain, tired of the pain.Read More Read Less

Foot ankle and toe pain were debilitating. No swelling though. Rhuematologist dismissed gout. Podiatrist suggested test for Uric acid. Results showed elevation. Allopurinol worked very quickly to relieve my pain.

First of all just started taking this drug. Second, from reading these reviews it looks like people either weren't informed or didn't read that flare ups can be worse in the beginning because it is cleaning out system. They will go away just need to stick with it. For me it is worth the wait been suffering so long hope is what I needed. And this drug give a it.

For treatment of rise in Uric Acid (Gout) causing swelling of my foot toe-nail with severe pain causing difficulty in walking, I've been on Zyloric (100 mg) one tablet daily since over 20 years and have had great results. No side effects thank God! I first started when I had a few mild session with gout but since then I've not had it at all. Dr wanted to take me off it but I said NO! I'm afraid of gout returning. I have found that I get it due to eating meat or Prawns, pain is unbearable...hopefully it's not affecting my liver/kidneys.... One important rule is to drink a lot of water & take easy walk. I get relief by moving … Read More Read Less

I've used Allopurinol 200 mg daily for 40 years. Passed a kidney stone 40 years ago. A wonderful, inexpensive medicine, no side effects. It has worked for me in controlling my blood uric acid levels. Can not stop taking the tablets.

I've been on this drug for over 25 years and have had great results. No side effects like I've read here, thank God! When I first started I had one more session with gout but since then I've not had it one time. Dr wanted to take me off of it after so many years and I said NO! I'm afraid of gout returning. Last time I had it, it was in my knee and I cried like a baby for 2 days. As long as I have no effects I won't get off of it...hopefully it's not killing my liver/kidneys....

I was taking 100mgs daily over a year. Recently had 2 severe gout flare ups in my right ankle within a 14 day period. Had to take prednisone both times to alleviate the flare ups. Increase dose to 300 mgs. Now I have stomach pain and my left knee is stiff and swolen and is not subsiding. Looks like another call to doctor.

I just started taking this, so too soon to say. BUT for those reporting leg cramps, your water intake is too low. You're dehydrated. It'll take a week of drinking a gallon per day to get back to normal, but do it !! Your kidneys & liver need it to function.Very important!!!

My husband had gout the gave him a script for allopurinol. It shut my husband kidneys and liver down. They said it was a rare side effect. All the skin pealed off his body called DRESS. Some says it works good not for my husband it was horrible. Not a good drug.

Been on 150mg for a year, less attacks than before, but still too many. So bumped up to 300mg 2 months ago. Now I have pain in my left leg. Doesn't bother me to walk, but I can't sleep on my left side. Dialing back to 15mg... See how this turns out.

My husband's Doctor told him to stop taking this medicine when he has a gout flare-up. Have any of you ever been told this by your physician?

Only on it for a week. Nausea, pain in hand and knee, redness and itchiness to the face, no appetite at all. Glad I looked here because that looks like the norm. I'll give it a while.
