Started taking sotalol after it was used to convert me from atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm. Dr. prescribed 80 mg twice a day. It lowered my blood pressure too low and slowed my heart down too much, and I was constantly tired and exhausted and lightheaded. So the doctor cut my dosage down to 40 mg twice a day. I have been taking it for two months now with no re-occurrences of atrial fibril...

I have ihss and I want to know if I should be taking this. My cardiologist up North, said I should not take this. But I am IN fl., and the cardiologists said I should. I was taking atenenol 25mg in the morning and 25mg at night. But only take the sotalol.

Sotolol is keeping my A-fib in check, however I am experiencing a rash on body and scalp with intense itching. Anyone else dealing with this?

Second time I have been put on Sotalol, first time I only had taken it 3 times and my heart rate suddenly plummeted from 70 to 40bpm with severe thumps in my chest. I am now successfully back on it after a bout of Afib and collapsing and ending up in hospital. I was put back on Sotalol 40mg twice a day while in hospital for 4 days, this time no adverse reactions, and it is now 15 months since my last Afib. I am 68,I walk for 1 hour every morning, limit alcohol and coffee to a couple of drinks a week, I am also taking the blood thinner Xarelto, Atacand plus for blood pressure and Rosuvastatin for cholesterol. So far so good, I feel very well.Read More Read Less

I just started taking the drug on 17 May 2015. Had a very bad time when amiodarone. I felt it was killing me. I have had rapid heartbeat 3 times in 3+ years. But each time I felt fine. Just a very rapid pulse. 190 per minute. Doc tried to go in and map the heart but had difficulty. I honestly think if I went to another cardiologist I would get a differing opinion. I have learned to be crictcal and question what they tell me. If this drug doesn't work or I have problems, I will post it hear. Information needs to shared on these powerful drugs. 1 yr. following my triple heart by-pass I went into afib. 3 months later, I had a successful electo-cardioversion that put me back into normal sinus rhythm. Began taking 80 mg. twice a day with very little or no side effects.

I have had small bouts of afib all my life, but it was finally caught by the doctor and he freaked out. Went to electro cardiologist and he put me on Sotalol. I have been on it for about 8 mths now. It does stop the episodes, but I have had fatigue and low blood pressure. Dr decided that I am not eating enough salt especially after exercising. Started drinking sports drinks after exercising and that seems to have taken care of it. Caffeine, alcohol, and dehydration can cause my Afib. Since I know what causes it now, hoping to lower my dosage over time.Read More Read Less

Placed on Sotalol oral after placement of ICD for Afib. Episodes of Afib more severe though at 8 week intervals I am unable to function normaly for 30-48 hours at a time. 16 months later I am opting for cardio ablation therapy. Want off this medicine to spare liver.

I have been in an out of A-fib for the past ten years. I was recently put on valsartan and 80 mg of sotalol, half in the morning and half at night. My pulse rate is lower has been down to 48 beats a minute. I have a terrible back ache a times and wonder if anyone else experiences severe back aches.

Initially worked well, then began to have more and more episodes of afib. lost 30 lbs and exercised regularly after that the afib worsened and would occur shortly after taking sotalol. have stopped this medication and afib has reduced. I am looking at diet issues and continuing the exercise. Might be hard for a doctor to believe but this medication made afib worse for me.

After trying about 5 other meds so far have gone back to this one but at lowest dose. I have 2 heart problems so ablation not recommended as might only help one at this time. All seem to have side effects so have to use what is least bothersome. New drug MULTAQ study has been stopped and anyone using it now is told to call their dr about it. Doubling of deaths.

I had battled with a-fib, but controlled with a drug that stopped working after 15 years or so. Went to cardio. had all the tests ran and was put on solatol af--no luck. Had a crio ablasion in may--am still on sotatol until after my halter monitor is worn for a month at the end of this month. ever since being on it, Im dizzy, lethargic. breathing problems, hair falling out. stomach ache, no energy or drive to get up and do small things. I hope the ablation heals great and the moniter shows I can get off these meds and move on with my life! Ill let you know. I keep checking on others symptoms to make sure Im not going nuts, and expecially don't want to end up bald.Read More Read Less

Currently I am taking 80mg twice a day. I started out with 120mg twice a day, but Dr reduced dosage after a while. I have been aking Sotalol since July 2010 and have not any more rapid heart beat (AFIB) nor suffered any other adverse side affect. from this medication.

After 4 months on Sotalol I have not experienced any noticeable side effects. It has allowed me to return to my normal level of activity. Life is good.

Most of the time, afib seems controlled. Do have episodes. Taking for years, more episodes lately. Side effects of hair loss and horrific scalp itch and back itch are maddening.

My life is basically over while on this drug. I am so out of breath I can barely walk. My husband has to do everything for me. I have been taking it for about 3 weeks and have absolutely no desire to do anything but sit very still.

75 year male with defibrillator. Taking 240mg twice daily for past year with good results. I do have fatigue and have to pace myself when doing PT for COPD twice weekly. Had leg swelling (water retention). Now that is controlled by Furosemide 120mg daily and blood tests indicate kidneys are doing fine. My Dr. had me try other AFIB drugs but had bad side effects. Thank God (and my cardiologist) for this medication. I am taking more than the maximum amount with good results and pray that further ageing will not require an increased dosage.Read More Read Less

my hair is falling out and I have been on this for a few months. Wonder if the problem could be the drug (twice a day).
