Asacol has been a godsend for me. This drug has literally turned my life around. When I first got sick 5 1/2 years ago I was a mess. I lost so much weight, my doctor put me in the hospital. Thanks to this medication I have been in remission for 5 years & have thankfully not had any real flare-ups,& my colonoscopies show no evidence of disease, & considering that my entire colon is affected I would ...

Has put me in remission for 3 years, even to the point where i can play field hockey for my college team. Only downside i take 12 of them a day. Talk about Lialda, same drug, larder doeses in each pill; i'll take 4 once a day rather then 4, 3 times a day.

This med has been VERY effective in controlling my Crohn's. If I miss a dose I sure know it. I have had no side effects and much relief using this med.

I was diagnosed wtih UC about 4 months ago officially after a colonoscopy, but had been taking Asacol for 4 months previous to that. Within one week of taking Asacol, all my symptoms went away completely. I no longer had an urgent need to use the bathroom everytime I ate and the cramping and gas went away as well. In fact, this is working so well for me that my colon appeared normal in the colonoscopy, the only trace of UC was found by taking a biopsy. I would highly reccommend this drug to anyone with an IBD. I've been taking this drug for 2 years - 1 year symptoms were active 1 year symptoms in remission. While symptoms are active there is less pain than before taking this med. But does not seem to stop a flare up - just lessen the symptoms.

Remission of rectal bleeding was almost immediate, within 48 hours of first dosage. Maintenance dose was 1600 mg (4 capsules) daily, reduced to 800 mg (2 capsules ) daily. Combined asacol with 6-MP to stop diarrhea entirely. In remission for 18 months.

It was hard to discover how much of this drug I should take. At one point I was taking way too much and that resulted in a lot of nausea. I still am not back to the way I was before I got sick, though, so I am interested in what other drugs are out there.

The only problem I had with this was not being able to take after 12:00pm everyday. My "beta blocker" quit working at night while on this medicine. It is rare but can happen. I told my Dr's about it and they were glad that I told them so they could caution other patients as well. I still stayed on the same dose, but they increased it to 3, 2x a day, with breakfast and lunch instead of 2, 3x a day and it has been fine since. I will find out in a couple of weeks if it has worked or not. Back for another scope. Yuck! Just a another quick note that I am usually very allergic to almost all meds that I take and was very surprised that I only the one symptom. Read More Read Less
