Just started this medication this week for a current sinus/bronchial infection. Used it before with great results! Just a note: eat 2 yogurts a day while on ANY antibiotic!! one in am-one in pm. Antibioics kill ALL bacteria including the 'good' bacteria that lives in the intestines/stomach. This leads to diarrhea, cramping, etc. Choose yogurt with 'live bacteria cultures' and eat 2 x a day until ...

i took this medication before finding out i was pregnant with my son in 1998. he was born with congenital heart disease, has had 3 open heart surgeries, is autistic, has a seizure disorder and many other health issues. DO NOT take this medication if you think you might be pregnant!

Biaxin is working for my bronchitis, however, the diarrhea is very troublesome. It has also caused my tinnitus to worsen.

I only took 1, yes 1 pill with food and I'm so miserable. My stomach feels like I have an ulcer, gallbladder infection and kidney stones all at once. It's resignating to my back, causing back pain. I didn't sleep at all last night and I'm irritable. I called the doctor and all they can tell me is that they will send out new meds and just to wait it out. It's been almost 24 hours since I took it last and I'm in pain, I wish I could throw it up and get it out of my system.

The bronchitis cleared up, but the side effects were horrible. I had diarreah for the 5 days I was on it, had a 'strange' feeling like yeast was growing in my body, and adrenalin was going to my intestines (feeling 'scared'), with my skin itching and feeling so sick I almost wanted to die. Attacks of diarreah started again 2 1/2 weeks after I stopped the drug, and still continues 2 1/2 months later. My gastro doctor gave me an IBS pill to control that. My system still has not gone back to normal, and I don't know if it ever will. How this drug passed for human consumption I don't understand. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.Read More Read Less

I was on penicillin for 10 days to cure strep throat. I thought I had recovered, but after two weeks, I fell sick again with sinutitis and was prescribed Biaxin. It was very effective, but side effects included depression, anxiety, a sense of hopelessness and just 'not feeling myself' at all. I am close to bouncing back after finishing 5 days ago. I would caution people about the possibility of having these particular side effects. I can handle bad taste, digestive issues, etc., but the side effects I experience were just awful.Read More Read Less

I was prescribed this medication for an abscess tooth. 500mg twice a day. Symptoms of this medication were delayed an hour and half so at first it was hard to tell which medication it was because I was also given vicodin 5/325mg. Here are the symptoms I discovered after the 2nd dose. Keep in mind I took no other medication in the 8 hours prior to be sure this is what it was. Symptoms included metallic taste in mouth, my body became hot and was hard to cool, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, racing thoughts and bad dreams. It was a horrible night and I went to work on virtually no sleep. Needless to say I called my dentist who gave me Cephalexin instead and the side effects are much more bearable. They also had to give me an anti-nausea because those symptoms seemed to last the longest.Read More Read Less

I started taking Biaxin about 5 days ago for the treatment of H Pylori. Within 24 hrs of starting treatment I developed the most horrible taste in my mouth, I can hardly stand to swallow my own Saliva. The inside of my mouth taste like what you think Quinine taste like, so much bitterness. It almost taste like your mouth turns inside out. I called my pharmacist immediately to find out what was going on and she told me it was a normal side effect. Other than that I've not had any other reaction to this medicine as treatment for H Pylori. The treatment is ongoing and I still keep lemon drops, peppermint or anything that will mask the bitter taste I still have. Tissues are kept handy just to get rid of the sour taste. I hope this review will help others as they use Biaxin as their treatment.Read More Read Less

Doctor gave this to me for bronchitis. Leaves a metallic taste in your mouth that you especially notice when you wake up in the morning. Had to discontinue usage after 5 days since I had an allergic reaction to it; swollen, red face with tiny pimples.

I've been on biaxin for 9 days (out of a 21 day prescription) and have had a whole host of side effects. First 2-3 day diarrhea, nausea and stomach pain along with severe metallic taste - the diarrhea went away after 2 days. However around day 5 I started getting pains in my head (not a normal headache) that would come snd go -- this lasted 2 days. I now have pain and stiffness in my left shoulder and back - this has been 3 days now. Still have the metallic taste and also just feel overall yucky. Oh yeah I also have insomnia - it's 3am right now! The good news is it seems to have cleared up my sinus infection that I had for a month. I am pretty sure I'm going to try to get through 5 more days of this - so a 14 day treatment and stop - the 21 days is excessive anyway and I'm tired of the side effects. Hopefully it will be long enough to do the job! Read More Read Less

It's hard to rate overall satisfaction at this point as I've only had one dose. However the first one worked like magic - I could breath again and a lot of the pressure pain went away within 2 hrs. Mind you in that time I also got that horrible metal taste in my mouth and stomach cramps. Usually don't get the stomach cramps &/or diarrhea until day 2-3. After reading these reviews I'm a tad nervous about what today will bring.

The 2X a day regimen is easy enough but the side effects in no way minimal. There has got to be a reason for this heavy metal taste in my mouth. My mouth is hyper sensitive to cold/hot & has (at least temporarily robbed me of my ability to taste thins properly. The taste is so bad that it wakes me from a fairly deep sleep. At which time I MUST chew gum in order to curb nausea. It feels as if the inside of my mouth is raw & irritated. The worst is with in 3-4 hours of taking it. Just as It eases the 8-10th hours are filled with gripping stomach cramps that ebb n flow & are accomopanyied by the most foul (and slightly yellowish bowel movements. The entire round of treatment I have suffered symptoms of various digestive distress. Every thing from gas to a sort of indigestion & what may be reflux especially when bending. Occassional dizzyness as well. Read More Read Less

I was warned of the metallic taste associated with this medication. I have found that taking it with a sweetened drink (Sprite works good) will help to ease the aftertaste, and sometimes make it go away completely. I have been ill for about 7 days, but this medication seems to be working. I'm still VERY weak, but it IS pneumonia, so I blame that on the sickness, not the drug. My runny nose has stopped, yet my cough won't go away. I have also had some mild bowel discomfort with this medication.Read More Read Less

I had bronchitis for almost 2 months and finally succumbed to antibiotics! Biaxin was chosen because of my penicillin allergy. I noticed that began improving within 36 hours of starting the drug. I also was not informed about the unusual taste which came in the middle of the night. I have not found the unusual taste a problem during the day, maybe because I'm eating throughout the day. I just suck on a cherry fisherman's friend lozenge when the horrible taste wakes me up. I think I may have had looser stools and a bit of nausea at times but nothing to complain about. I would just like to say that just because you have side effects doesn't mean that you should say "don't ever use this drug", we are all different and the next person may have no side effects. from the reading I did, apparently the unusual taste is a side effect for only 7% of people, diarrhea & vomiting for 6%, indigestion & abdominal pain for 3% and headaches for 2%. I am satisfied that the drug worked, obviously I'd rather do without the unusual taste in my mouth, but I would take this drug again if I could not clear the infection myself. Read More Read Less

I am on day 9 of 14 on this antibiotics. Bad taste in my mouth, nausea (I take my two pills at night with food followed by gravol and go to bed!), my eyes are sensitive to light and I look COMPLETELY exhausted and just want to close my eyes. I also have some very weird and intense dreams every night. Ihave a headache today but this is the first time since I started the medication.
