I was on buspar for repeated anxiety attacks at .5mg twice a day. The first couple of days I was sick from taking the meds I felt high and totally out of it. they lowered my dose and about a month in a tried to up my dose. This again made me very sick. In the end I stopped the medication because it made me so depressed. I cried all the time that is not my personality. This drug initially after the dose was adjusted helped with my anxiety helped me learn how to control easier but in the end it made me how more frequent attacks and become depressed. I am glad that I took the medication it help learn how to calm down but in the long run it was not good for me. I guess it depends on the case and how well the person tolerates the medication. I have enjoyed being able to enjoy everyday life again since starting to take Buspar, it has made my symptoms become very weak, thus fore allowing me to lead a normal everyday life again. I do have one complaint about the drug and that is that it took over a month for my body to let it go to work, also I get a small head rush when first using the pill. I currently take 15mg twice a day.

I took Buspar for a couple months and it worked great at first. I was only on 5mg twice a day but after the first couple months I got terrible dry mouth that made it difficult to swallow food. Soon after, I started waking up in the middle of the night with loud ringing and noise in my head. I had to get up and walk around to calm myself down enough to sleep. It was almost as if it triggered mild manic episodes. I stopped taking it but haven't had many serious anxiety issues since.

Unable to tolerate this medication! I was switched to zoloft- very effective. The Buspar , even after completing the first 4-6wks, made me feel drugged, dizzy, and out of it 15-25min after taking it. It never got better with time.

I am 67 yrs old, and had such a level of anxiety, it interfered severely with every day of my life! I noticed improvement from the very first day! I did have to go up to 15mg twice daily, but holding at that dose has just been a lifesaver! I have nothing but praise for this medication! Also, I am a newly retired RN, so i am pretty well-informed about medications!

Took small dosage (15mg)/day for a month - main side effect was racing, thumping heart. Made me very nervous and was hard to fall asleep. Went off it a week ago and still having episodes of heart palpitations. Was on Lorazapam for a year with much better result but the withdrawal was horrid. Still looking for something that works for me.......

Buspar did not do much for me, other than when I took it I felt pulses in my brain. Crazy sounding I know. It was as if I felt the electrical pulses. It also did very little for my anxiety.

I suffer from GAD as well as OCD, which is also an anxiety disorder. Nothing was working for me until my doctor put me on both Buspar and Valium. Great combination! I am calm all day and sleep like a baby at night. No side effects at all, other than slight sleepiness during the day. Buspar does work for some people!!!

I was given this med first back in the mid 80's before being dvd with fibromyhellgia. I did fine on it for anxiety - had just started a new job & was trying to hold on to the American Dream of Corporate America & climbing the ladder. After my FM dx, Dr's took me off Buspar & on Pamelor, I gained 25 pounds in what seemed like o'nite. I flushed those! Always the aerobic queen & fit/fine, I was not happy. My husband died in '90. Since then, I've been on too many drugs to list, now the dx is no longer "just" fibrohell; I have chronic pain due to facets joint syndrome. In'95 I was placed on klonopin - up to 4mg a day. I recently had an episode because for some reason my Dr. wanted to take me off, 2mg/day NOT good. I had to go to an urgent care treatment center, as opposed to the ER because I felt like I was going to have a break-down, from 2mg to 1mg! I was act The Dr. at the urgent care center told me that I was having withdrawals, which confirmed what I had suspected & what I had tried to tell my Dr. of 4-years. I had to make a decision - continue to see this newer Dr. & get my meds straight, or...die? My children were ready to sue my Dr. of 4-years. The urgent care Dr. has a practice as an internist-put me on a week of 3-1mg per day;then back down to 2-1mg per day.He sees no reason to take me off. I'm going to ask him about the good old Buspar I was on before. All these Dr's. seem to want the new & for some reason many are on the war-path over benzo's. Since I'm on disability -I have Medicare prescription & they refuse to cover benzo's! Obviously, something is up. Probably the new meds are in some sort of conspiracy against. After all, they are cheaper & DO work! I hope if I get to go back to Buspar, it works the same for me as it did back in the 80's. I'm surely tired of playing games with Dr's. I was a research analyst before early retirement due to disability - I probably know almost as much as they do about the meds & effects & definitely more about the cost!Read More Read Less

I recently went to my doctor for my anxiety and depression, they placed me on prozac which of course takes awhile till I will feel the full affects. so in the interim, they put me on klonopin which did nothing for me because of the dosage, they then placed me on xanax which was working perfectly but i would have to take a few pills since they started me on half a mg. A few days later I had a horrible panic attack and left work to go to the doctor. I had to go to a different one, than my usual doctor who would not up my dosage of xanax when I told her it was working for me. Instead she put me on Buspar which has since caused me shortness of breath, more anxiety, dizziness, and loss of sleep. I have a strong dislike for that doctor, and am stopping my medication today.Read More Read Less

My suggestion is stay off the buspar. I have been off for over a month and I still have side effects with my vision. Buspar made my anxiety worse when I stopped it. I am also a stay at home mom. Paxil was awful for me as well and I did not even take it long enough to become addicted. Try therapy, I found it to be slightly helpful. I have recently tried meditation cds and it is helping me relax a bit. Hope this helps. Stay strong....stay away from buspar.

Like a few others here have written, this was given to me in lieu of any form of Benzo. Again as others here have noted, while the Benzo is an ideal fix (for me it's Lorazapam)my personal history of ETOH abuse in most MD's mind excludes me from treatment involving any. Benzo. They simply WILL NOT prescribe it for me, though I have two years sobriety. I have had small doses of Serax ok'd but even that has gone by the wayside. So this leads me to Buspar which on and off I've taken for about five years now. I am at 30mg daily and while it's merely ok, it is something, and unfortunately while it certainly IS NOT ideal, it simply has to do for the time being. If I REALLY must have a Benzo it's certainly no problem to find them, which unfortunately leads to the conundrum of weighing illegality and it's inherent risks, and the MD's concerns about facilitating an addiction as opposed to providing positive benefit to thier patient. All in all in my case it's not the ideal drug but it provides some measure of benefit on a very modest level. So yeah somethings better than nothing i suppose.Read More Read Less

I took this med for 8 days and had severe dizziness and insomnia. Since going off I have been suffering with panic attacks (which I did not have before starting this med I just had general anxiety due to medical treatment I have been receiving for back pain, now I get anxious just thinking about leaving the house) and I still am having vision problems after 3 weeks of stopping this med. Anyone else with vision problems???

my doctor prescribed this instead of xanax. i think it actually made things worse. has anyone else had problems with profuse sweating, nausea, insomnia, and the like? im at my wits end regarding the anxiety. god bless all the abusers out there that make it impossible for people that really need the medication to actually GET the medication.

I've been on this medication for 7 years now..I had horrible social anxiety in the past..since i had issues with drugs, i refused anything that was a controlled substance. The psychiatrist i had at the time suggested this..and although i prefer it b/c i take it the same time each day..doesnt work as a PRN drug... it still gives me the awful feeling soon after i take it.. dizziness, etc.. cant describe it! but i noticed when i tried to go off of it before, i didnt leave the house.. it's cheap for me..and it works for the most part..when everything else is bad, it doesnt .but thats life and i cant treat LIFE with a pill.Read More Read Less
