I had a bad cold that seemed to have settled in my chest. There was a lot of coughing causing my ribs & head to hurt. My doctor had me on an antibiotic & Mucinex DM. The Mucinex DM worked to thin the mucus. It lessened the night time coughing (intensity & frequency) but not completely. I was still up quite a bit. The side effects of dizziness, 'loopiness' & nausea are pretty annoying. I have a very active toddler & the side effects make it somewhat challenging to keep up w/ him.

I've had an awful cough, congestion, difficulty breathing. I started taking it and I am feeling better, but after taking it I feel like I've been loopy, dizzy, and just feel really weird......Its working but I suggest taking the minimum dose if you want to be able to function and drive....

Had I taken this at 6am instead of 6pm I would have been unable to function at work or drive. Within 30 minutes of taking I felt tired. within 90 minutes I was unable to stay awake. I slept for 11 hours. 17 hours later I'm coming out of my fog. But, the drug worked. Urge to cough almost gone. Nose clear. Ears, are partially plugged, though.

I began taking this medication for the flu, as I had began to experince chest congestion and hacking cough. It seemed to help loosen the mucus, and my cough became productive. However, I immediately experienced dizziness. After two days, I also experinced a bout of intense fear and anxiety. The bottle did not list any side effects, and it was not until I went on line that I discovered this side effect. Very unsettling.

Took 3-4 hours to really kick in, and then worked great. Funny side effect--priapism--serious wood--but once I sought relief for that, everything worked great. I was up and awake a fair part of the night.

Mucinex was a great help for me when i had brochitis. It helped losen the mucus in my respiratory tract so that i could cough it up easier. It was a great relief. One of the things i noticed while taking this drug is that you don't really feel relief like you would a cough drop. You feel releif, because it losens up the phlegm in your respiratory tract.

This medication does work for the congestion, however I am so hyper that I can't get ANY sleep, heart racing, spacey, extremely thirsty, I think I would rather be congested!

In May 2007, I took Mucinex DM for persistent cough & congestion. I had also been taking Prozac for mild depression for 8 yrs. Never any side-effects. Never manic-depressive/mania. I began having double vision & went into a manic episode. Horrible, very frightening. Upon later research, I found that dextromethorphan can cause serious side effects such as the above. This product should have much stronger warning labels. Think twice before using.

Taking product along with omnicef for a respiratory infection for 1 week now. The expectorant is very effective, however the cough supressant seems to have little to no effect (coughed all night). Heartburn and sour stomach killed my apetite for several days, but the antibiotic is probably equally at fault there. In future I'll get the plain Mucinex and just use Nyqil at bedtime for the cough.

The Mucinex DM I am taking is working pretty well at breaking up my chest congestion. I have been getting tension head aches from the urge to cough without producing anything. The med is helping. However, it is making me REALLY dizzy and loopy. I took it before bed and then had a hard time waking up. Once I was awake I felt really out of it.

I Took the DM version hoping to get a good nights sleep from the effects of a nasty cold. No, up all night felt like I had taken ephedrine-- very nervous, thirsty, mind racing, heart racing now a head ache. It's been a scary night. it's been 12 hours and I'm still waiting for the effects to subside. I am in my 50's in good health, not on any medication nor under Dr's care for any medical reason. My personal opinion is this company should either have much stronger warning on the box, add a pamphlet with side effects or make it prescription only it should not be available for minors. The company will get this box back never again. Did it dry up the sinuses? yes and everything else kidneys etc. (hope there was no permement damage.) Is it worth the physical price? I used the maximum strength version of Mucinex DM. This drug made me VERY dizzy, nervous and tired. It makes you think something else is wrong with you! I felt like that for the entire time I was on the drug. However, it really does help with mucus. I had no side effects with the regular Mucinex.

I took this medication to relieve lung NS nasal congestion. It caused severe drowsiness, dizziness, and I experienced some unexplained pain in my lungs. I would not recommend this medication to anyone.
