Terrible! Makes my teeth clench/become sore, makes me have nausea, I get dizzy with hot and cold spells... thought I had a fever!

Went to the doctor because of nasty green/yellow/brown mucus, she advised that I take musinex DM. So, that�s what I did. Would�ve been cool to know that it causes horrible stomach pains, but before they started, I was dizzy and light headed. Like I had been drugged by someone. Mind you, I�m a mother of two little ones, so I had to lay them down and try and lay down myself but when I did the stomach pains got so bad I actually had to get in my knees and try and sleep like an infant would with their butt in the air. The stomach pains eased a bit. But wow. I still feel weird in my head. I don�t think I�ll be taking this ever again. I have only taken two doses. Still coughing pretty badly. I'm literally writing this review while sitting on the toilet due to the EXPLOSIVE diarrhea this medication has caused. I took it right before breakfast and experienced light headedness, dizziness, and brain fog. This worsened throughout the morning and I was disoriented and unbalanced. My mouth had a weird sensation and my tongue felt like it was getting bigger. I feared I was having an allergic reaction but when I looked in the mirror my tongue was it's normal shape and size and my husband said nothing looked out of the ordinary. About 30 minutes after that I had an ungodly stomach pain and LOUD stomach activity. I have been sitting on the toilet ever since and having violent bowel movements just about every 20 minutes. Had a tickle cough with junk in my chest that I could cough and get choked on. Took Mucinex DM to take care of the constant coughing and gagging so I could sleep. Woke up 2 hours later with severe cramping and nausea. Spent the rest of the day on the toilet with diarrhea and nausea. Almost felt flu like. Wouldnâ??t have blamed this medicine except my boyfriend was also sick and took one also and had the same reaction. We didnâ??t eat anything the same so we didnâ??t have food poisoning. This was just an effect of the medication. Another side effect we both had was foggy headedness. It suppressed my cough however. Just didnâ??t sleep due to the constant running to the bathroom. My husband took this to help clear mucus from chest and reduce cough lingering from cold. He has taken a lower dose of guaifenesin in the past with no problems. This time he developed severe diarrhea with nausea and dizziness. He hasn't been this sick in years. We thought he might have food poisoning. He couldn't go to work. Finally I found this site and others reporting these symptoms. At least we know the cause, but we were surprised by the severity of these side effects. I threw away the rest of the medicine. Was at the tail end of being sick from a head cold with an annoying mucousy cough that only occured late night and early morning. My cough at night was starting up again worse than it had been and I really wanted to sleep without that tickle in my throat. So I decided to take a mucinex dm. It did finally kick in and I did sleep but when I woke up I had bad pain in my stomach. Then spent a good 30 minutes to an hour with multiple trips to the bathroom with watery explosive diarrhea.Not to mention this product is not cheap. It does what it says it does. It loosens my mucus and clears my sinuses, but maaaan it makes me feel loopy and drowsy. If you work a desk job, be prepared to feel narcoleptic. I also experienced an unbalanced-ness. Not quite dizzy, but close.

I have never had an allergic reaction before to any food or medicine. I felt light headed after I took it and woke up the next morning, 12 hours after taking with with painful, puffy eyes that were difficult to open due to swelling and was tingly all over my body. I also had intense hives for 4 days and after 7days the hives are almost gone. The puffy eyes lasted three days. Mucinex did not provide relief from my bronchitis. From research it seems many people have suffered negative side effects from this drug. I would not recommend taking it. It’s not worth the risk.Read More Read Less

Had flu-like symptoms for 8 days. On a follow-up appointment to my doc she suggested an OTC expectorant to help get the last bits of crud out of my chest. Took first pill at 6pm on Tuesday. Came into work on Wednesday and took my next pill at 6am. I was walking back my office from a meeting when I felt what I thought was gas. I have had a hacking cough from a cold. To loosen the mucus and reduce my cough, I decided to try Mucinex DM for the first time. I always read the warnings on my pill bottles. No side effects were mentioned. I rarely take pills, unless I really need them. When I took the Mucinex DM, I made sure not to take any of my other cold meds- Tylenol, not even Flonase. The bottom line is within 4 hours of taking one big pill with lots of water I felt severely nauseous and threw-up. Not long after that I was hit stomach pains and a minor burning diarrhea. I threw up again. A dry throw up. About 6 hours after taking the pill I felt like the room was swaying, like I had been drugged. I did not like that feeling at all. Did my cough temporarily stop? I had a sinus, ear, and upper respiratory infection and on an antibiotic. I was still not getting relief. I took one dose of mucinex and I felt so much better. Took my cough away.

Bronchitis - I have tried two other over the counter medications to clear my bronchitis symtoms. I took one Mucinex DM at 7PM and I was able to fall asleep without coughing. I have been so sick for 10 days and after taking Mucinex DM, I feel AMAZING! I can breathe without coughing. I am alert and not drowzy. I would recommend this product to anyone with Bronchitis. I thank God my sweet husband found Mucinex DM!!!

Had a tight cough from bronchitis. Since I did not have a fever, I spoke with the pharmacist and she recommended this. It worked fine for the cough but after the 2nd day of every 12 hr tabs, I began having horrible diarrhea. Since I had not eaten anything unusual , I called the pharmacist and she said to stop taking the Mucinex. The diarrhea stopped after 24 hr of no Mucinex DM. I had been drinking plenty of water with each tablet. I would never take this again.

I am taking the Maximum Strength version (1200 mg of guaifenesin and 60mg of dextromethorphan) and finally feel almost normal! My cough is "normal" instead of the endless, violent attacks I have been enduring. No side effects that I can attribute to the medicine. I'm thankful to be able to work again without my coworkers thinking I am dying every time I cough. This is a lifesaver.

I have had a terrible sore throat and a cough the past 2 days, decided to take some mucinex DM to loosen up the mucas and get it out. About an hour or two later I had explosive diarrhea that I could not hold in. Most brutal and painful experience ever. I know it was from the mucinex because I had not eaten anything before that or late the night before. IT IS NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!! It didn't even help that much.
