My amount of calcium in the blood is in the "osteopena" level. The calcium supplement I've taken has kept that level stable. However, I do experience constipation on a regular basis due to taking the supplement. Since it is a liquid supplement, I do not take it on trips requiring me to fly. During the time I'm off this supplement, I no longer experience the constipation issue. The non liquid supplement also gives me GI upset.
