My story...wow. I could write a novel. Well, to summarize. I began antidepressants at the age of 13. By age 24, I had my first bout with MDD and was hospitalized for suicidal ideations. Two years later, another episode. This time, with 24/7 thoughts of SI. Except this time, I was done being the guinea pig of cocktails of different prescription combinations. This drug Deplin) almost killed me twice! The first time I took it I experience a horrible manic/suicidale reaction that lasted about 24 hours. I stopped the drug. When I told my Dr. he actually laughed at me and said Vit, C can'tvdo that! The 2nd time I took it I suffer from 4 horrific days of mania. My husband had to hide all of the drugs in the house and I had 3 hour screaming rant accusing my h...

There was absolutely nothing, nothing left in me to fight this battle and I wasn't going to live to see another episode. I made an almost successful attempt at committing suicide. Luckily, I was found by my father. It wasn't until this time I was prescribed a combination of Celexa and Deplin. I had zero hope. I had tried over a dozen different anti-depressants, ECT's, several different "add on" drugs...to no avail. I decided to give things one last shot. In 28 years, I don't recall ONE time in my life of feeling this "alive". Never. Not even as a child on Christmas morning. My life has completely changed. I can't even put to words what this drug has done for me. I wouldn't even know where to begin. But, I know, I would not be here today if it wasn't for Deplin. I'm positive of that. I hope word spreads of this new drug because it is truly a miracle. Before taking this I was absolutely lifeless. Slept all the time. Didn't socialize. Was on short term disability from work numerous times. Couldn't take care of myself. Couldn't hold my marriage together. Couldn't take care of my house. There wasn't one thing I cared about. Not even really family. Now....I'm genuinely happy. I'm motivated, which I've never felt in my life. I thank God at night for giving me another day- I've never thanked him for that! I go out with friends....I am passionate about things in life. I building a relationship with my family now. I could go on and on. Please, please, please spread the word on this drug because it WILL save people's lives. I know many are hopeless, but if they would give this battle one last fight...it would be Deplin. Very effective in enhancing the work of antidepressant medication. I feel like a new woman after suffering from depression and dysthymia for many years.

This medication has saved my life. Period. I suffer from depression, and seasonal affective disorder as well. This combined with my regular cymbalta and lamictal has really been helpful in giving me more energy- whereas before all I could do besides sleep was get up and go to work.

Have dealt with depression all my life. Medication and therapy some improvement, but "it" was always there. Doctor introduced Deplin and there was a great improvement within the first month. Tried a generic form (to saave money) but was not effective. Switched back to Deplin and mood improved greatly. For me to have this quality of life it is a great investment!

Almost immediate results, improved my spirits, energy level. Would have given 5 stars to all, but I developed diarrhea almost the exact day I started the Deplin 15 mg. Made no difference if taken with or without food, hoping this was just a case of the "gi bug."

Very hard to get the brand name my MD insists on, however she is really experienced with the use of DEPLIN and knows the product. More importantly, she is very aware of who might benifit from trying Deplin and very selective about prescribing it. It is working very well for me as I have several GI issues.

It has been very good for me & last night I had some suicidal thoughts that I had not had since taking Deplin. Does this happen?

BEWARE!!! Deplin is contraindicated with many prescription drugs! In my case it was combined with Viibryd, an anti depressant. I almost died from the side effects! It took extensive research to discover that Deplin does indeed have problems when taken with over 300 prescription and OTC medications!

I had taken Deplin for about 1 year and due to "hormonal-like" symptoms reduced from 15mg to 7 1/2. This worked great until a few months after, I began having painful nodules with drainage. I thought it was exacerbating HSV-2, that I had for over 20 years. Stopped Deplin, took anti-viral medication/topical cream, and it got better. However, it did not subside. Went to dermatologist, who prescribed antibiotic and topical cream. It has since healed up. Dr. saw no need to biopsy areas. I believe it was an allergic reaction to the gluten ingredients in the medicine. I sometimes itch vaginally if I eat too many strawberries; especially during the summer months due to seasonal allergies, and I think this was the same occurrence. My psychiatrist put me on Abilify because the depressive symptoms returned. That has a host of other issues. Miss you Deplin!Read More Read Less

My husband is taking Deplin because he is positive for four genes of Apoplipid-E, which means his natural vac. for cleaning the low and very low density lipids out of his blood don't work, so the fats continue to circulate and then clog up arteries. If you have elevated cholesterol and/or other lipids, ask your Dr. to run tests for the different Apolipid-E genes. One of these four genes keeps you from being able to convert regular folic acid to the activated l-methyl folate. This is why they make Deplin. My husband took folate ,that is folic acid for YEARS the Dr. NEVER ran additional tests, finally after 7 yrs,we changed Dr.s and boom, he ran the correct tests on the first go. The funny thing is, the correct test that actually needs to be run is for a gene that also controls lipid metabolism.Read More Read Less

I responded when I first began taking Deplin and found out immediately how effective it was for me and my suicidal thoughts and tendencies. I did complain about parasympathetic symptoms as if I were having hot flashes. Lowering the dosage 15 to 7.5mg relieved those and still stabilized my mood. However, I have been having constant herpes II outbreaks. I have had it for over 25 years and know my pattern well. It was easily managed with lysine. Since I have been taking Deplin, I have been having frequent, intense, and chronic outbreaks. I was prescribed Valacyclovir, 500mg, twice a day and it helped speed the healing but not the chronic eruptions which were constant and in several locations at one time. I took the chance and have stopped the Deplin and my herpes symptoms have almost totally resolved. I researched and found out that perhaps the arginine food ingredients were exacerbating these symptoms. I am in a quandary of what to do now. More and more medicine, totally suspend my love life, or live? It is also possible that these foods also impact IBS/Chrohns? disease.Read More Read Less

This medication has made a tremendous difference in my major depression that I have had since you. I still take Wellbutrin/Lexapro at very low doses but Deplin has made the difference with my extreme lows (suicidal)...no mania in history. However, I have noticed since that time that my herpes type 2 has intensified. Where I maintained with L-lysine and topcial creme for over 20 years, I began taking oral valtrex. I believe there must be high alginine nutrients in the medicine. I would love to know and have if modified but I will never sacrifice my benefits from depression for secxual intimacy.Read More Read Less

This medication better than the over the counter Folic Acid - the cost is very high- its classification is why insuance will not pay...however if you go to BRAND DIRECT HEALTH you can get for 3 month supply for about 48.00 a month

I have been taking Lortab 40 mg. 1 x d for about two years for anxiety & depression with "not so great" results. My doctor added Deplin 15 mg. 1 x day to see if it helped lift the depression. I must say that after only a week I feel much better! My concentration level and ability to sleep have improved and the depression seems to be lifting. Not yet "my old self again", but hopefully that will come with longer time on Deplin.

It has helped my depression tremendously. The only problem I have is neither my primary nor secondary medical insurance covers it and is cost well over $100 per month.

Prozac no longer worked for me after taking it for 20 years. Psychiatrist recommended Zoloft and later Deplin. Depression symptoms decreased significantly. Energy level increased along with feeling more upbeat. Dosage 300mg zoloft, 12mg Deplin.
