I just had my second pneumovax shot about 5 hours ago. The first time, about 5-7 years ago, I had awful upper arm pain for about 3 days. I've had no other problem with any other vaccines including my yearly flu shot. Well, I'm sitting here typing this in incredible pain! This is worse than the first time. I can move my arm, but it's extremely painful to do so. I'm wondering if the nurse did it too...

My doctor recommended the Pneumovax 23 at my annual physical and that I'm 66. I never have any issues with injections so I took it, wish I had done some research first. My arm swelled, fever, fever, red and painful. I will do my reach prior to any other injectors that are recommended.

Since I only had this PV23 vaccine 4 days ago who knows if this medication will work? This star survey is not appropriate. I gave 1 star ea. because of the side effects that people receiving it should be made aware of and possibly expect. Thank goodness for google I find there are many folks who have had bad experiences and wonder how many people don't report it? I'm an active 68 yr old female. No health issues yet! Year ago Dr recommended over age 65 the pneumonia vac so I had PV13 with no ill effects. As a follow up PV23 was recommended this year. I had the shot 4 days ago. That night, my arm started swelling from deltoid to bicep getting red and "hot" to touch very painful during next 2 days temp and chills stayed under 101.5. Iced arm and took ibuprofen did not help pain at all. On 3rd day entire arm from below shoulder down to elbow appeared sunburned and was very warm to touch I took picture of it! Never ever had any side effect like this before. Glad to report today so far normal temp with less swelling and pain redness diminishing. Overall not a good experience.Read More Read Less

I thought it was going to be a waltz in the park. The nurse suggested I take the shot because I am 83 and the disease could be dangerous. NOONE said ANYTHNG about side effects. I looked at my arm just now and almost went to the emergency room. It is swollen, hurts underneath the arm, scary!I can't believe this experience.

The worse shot ever. My arm was so sore and stiff that I couldn't move it without pain. Swelling at the injection site. I had leg cramps at nighttime, fever during the day, and felt lousy. It makes getting a tetanus shot child's play. When it wears off in five years, I may forgo getting it again.

I can't say whether the vaccine will work but the shot itself was fine. My arm is still a little sore 2 days after the shot, but not bad. About 20 hours after the shot I had a very slight fever and chills, but it only lasted a few hours. Luckily I was able to go home and take a nap. Took a couple Tylenol when I got up and went on with my day normally (though I did enjoy telling my husband he should be extra nice to me because I had pneumonia :)) Have to agree with another reviewer that the "star" rating for a vaccination is strange. If I get pneumonia, then I could maybe say it wasn't effective. But if I never get pneumonia, who knows? Maybe it will have been the vaccine, maybe I'll just have managed to avoid it otherwise....Read More Read Less

I received the PV23 shot last night, and was given very little warning of how painful it would be. I got the shot at 7:30 pm, and went to bed an hour or so later, but got very poor sleep because the pain in the arm kept getting worse and worse. It hurts like an infected stab wound. I'm so glad the pharmacist giving the shot said, "Most people get the shot in their left arm," because I had my right sleeve rolled up; I would have been unable to get any computer work done today (and I have a full, heavy day of it today), because the arm hurts so bad. Yoga helped stretch the arm muscles a bit; I had taken Ibuprofen before starting my yoga. I hope I don't develop any of those other symptoms of fever, etc., that others have complained of because I have family coming for the weekend today. They should really WARN about the pain and discomfort, and how disabling the shot is, so a person can plan, instead of picking up the shot like it was a letter at the post office.Read More Read Less

On the day there was no pain and I was told that my arm would hurt in a half hr ... The next day it ached a little but nothing too bad till yesterday it was like I'd tackled a rhino arm on and still aches.. There was a small red hot spot that's now double in size butcooled down. I have a fever and couldn't sleep yesterday... I'm surprised at the pain a tiny injection could cause and the red bump is weird but goes away if u massage it like a knot.. It just hurts to do so

Feeling ok until 4 hours after the shot I began to feel sore in my arm like a flu shot. One hour later I reached for something with that arm and found that I couldn't control it very well. I took a 2 hour nap and woke up sweating and nauseous. I drank some water and the symptoms passed within a few minutes. My arm hurts so bad that it feels broken! The site of injection is so tender that it hurts without any movement at all. Ugh! I suggest taking a shower and getting comfortable before the symptoms set in because you may not be able to do things very well.Read More Read Less

This survey is not set up for vaccinations. Hopefully, I will not be able to determine whether it is less than 100% effective. It is a simple, deep shot. No pain. I swam 2 miles after the shot and forgot I even had the shot. Those who fail to use their arms may have more pain.

I had the shot 3 days ago. That night, my arm started swelling and had a knot on my arm at the injection spot the size of a golf ball. Very painful. Today, I woke up with very severe congestion in my chest and began to cough up green matter. My chest is extremely tight. I had pneumonia several years ago and the symptoms are the same.

I have been on the receiving end of the rabies series three times and the Hepatitis B as well, also repeatedly (long story) Never have I had such a painful reaction to an immunization. The pain is now into my armpit and elbow. When people complain about the arm pain, they aren’t kidding.

The shot works, I actually requested it. That being said, the arm will be sore, very sore for a few days, almost immobilized. It swells and it will not feel great, but the 5 years of prevention is worth it to me.

I received this vaccination today at 1pm, and the injection was the most painful I have ever had! Excruciating, to be honest. It is 8:25 pm same day and the pain in my left arm is so painful, I cannot use it. I finally took some ibuprofen, and it helped a tiny bit (any help at all is welcomed). The nurse that gave the shot ask me which was my "active arm", because she would give the shot in the other army. She said I would be sore. HA! Understatement! But at least she gave a hint. I read the other comments here and I am worried I have a lot of pain ahead of me. I would NOT have taken this vaccine if I knew this kind of pain would happen.Read More Read Less

Got the Prevnar 13 shot 6 months ago. Had a sore upper arm similar to a tetanus shot. Yesterday at noon I received the Pneumo23 and was up all night with a very painful, hot swollen upper arm at the injection site. 3 Advil did nothing. Now over 24 hrs later it is difficult to lift or use my arm. I decided to just tough through it and shampooed my carpets for 2 hours thinking perhaps using it would help reduce swelling/increase circulation. I had minimal improvement most noticeably better range of motion. Tonight I plan to skip the Advil in favor of a few cocktails. I sure hope this shot is as effective as they claim. Had the injection on the advice of my doctor. I was given no warnings of any possible side effects. 4 hours later I had a high fever, chills, body aches, weakness, lightheadedness. My arm was very painful to move. I went to bed and slept for 14 hours. Next day I found a red rash from the injection site to halfway down to my elbow. My arm was very swollen, hot to the touch and painful. I went to my doctor's office and was told that I had a skin infection but after reading all these other reviews I do not believe that diagnosis! It would have been prudent of my doctor to warn mean of these side affects. I felt extremely ill.Read More Read Less

I had immediate side effects such as nausea, a crushing headache and gross fatigue. For two months afterward, I have recurring symptoms as soon as I resume any type of normal life activity. I sincerely regret letting my doctor talk me into taking this vaccine as I was essentially a healthy person before.
